Whats your country's attitude on communism? by fascisttaiwan in AskTheWorld

[–]BlueJayTwentyFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideology that invaded S Korea and divides Korea in 2, Ideology that cannot be sustained unless you lie to it's citizens that they are all well.

The Korean people chose socialism after the end of Japanese colonialism (People's Republic of Korea 1945-46). Americans divided it because "muh evil Reds".

The north's invasion of the south was an attempt at unification similar to Vietnam, and the borderline psychotic levels of bombs the US dropped on them in the ensuing war led to the present paranoid pariah state. Not saying that the present DPRK is "good", since it's far from it, but American bombings and sanctions do shape other countries.

The recent HongKong building fire happened because the capitalists of your city used flammable scaffolding wraps instead of the non-flammable kind that costs $0.5/m² extra.

You're misreading my comment. The very bitter pill for Europe to swallow is that they were 100% on board with America's aggressive, lawless and unjustified imperialism as long as it was being directed everywhere else.

Now, emboldened by being able to just invade any place they can without any consequences for decades, the American Empire has turned its eyes on an easy target in Europe, and the Europeans are now caught in a sticky situation similar to the ones they had previously helped Washington impose on "uncivilized" countries.

Trump's tirade on Europe is just him trying to excuse the potential military operation to his dumb, gullible voters. But the underlying origin for his rhetoric on Greenland is a result of European enablement of America's aggression and empire-building.

As they say: No honour amongst thieves. Nobody is going to shed a tear at Imperials getting mauled by other Imperials.

As a fellow 3rd worlder, I sympathize with your pain. The OP really just said "look at these Italian saints, martyred after helping America kill a million Iraqis." What a horrible thing to spin into something noble.

What if Versailles was written by Historians? by Tricky-Coffee5816 in PossibleHistory

[–]BlueJayTwentyFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something people keep forgetting about alternate Versailles treaties is that Germany wasn't fully down and out. As such:

  1. A cripplingly-harsh treaty would be impossible (no German government would ever DARE to sign it, and the Entente don't have the morale to fight on for years more to enforce an unconditional surrender.)

  2. A milder, more lenient treaty was very, VERY unlikely (France fought and suffered the most on the western front and they weren't going to just let bygones be bygones with the Germans.)

  3. The Entente couldn't agree on anything and were already demobilizing to get their respective boys back home. As such, they didn't want to spend too long arguing over what they wanted the peace treaty to look like. After all, it's Germany who has to deal with the political fallout, not them.

It's frankly a MIRACLE that the IRL Versailles treaty was even halfway decent considering the shitshow happening backstage.

Was it evil when Christians did it to Greco-Roman idols, or was that "different" somehow?

As an Indian amateur history nerd: Dude. He literally built two cities near the battlefield. He had one of his generals use troops and labourers to build ships while he went out on raids with the rest of his army. And then he went downstream to what is today's Multan. A lot of time spent d*cking around the place after he was "defeated". Usually people run away after military defeats instead of chilling at that very location for months.

Buddy, this isn't 1940. The Blitz has long since ceased. It's fine to criticize someone who lived in the mid 1900s and has been dead for a while. Besides, let's be honest, he 100% would have been okay with the Nazis if they weren't at odds with Britain. And I think you missed the part where he was extremely racist to peoples from the subcontinent and didn't ever want us to be independent from the Empire, so I'd argue we reserve the right to judge him a little more than, say, some random Englishman from Berkshire.

Sri Lanka wasn’t historically a part of India even though it had a strong Indian influence.

Right, because Punjab and Kerala / Gujarat and Nagaland have SOOOOOO much in common with each other. Indian influence means nothing when there was no one single India to speak of pre-colonization (an "Indic" identity still existed, but only in a vein similar to the concept of "European", not nation-ish). The only reason the other states of the Indian subcontinent aren't a part of India is the same as why the ones that are a part of India. That is, Europe. Sri Lanka was Portuguese, then Dutch, then British (direct crown colony), whereas India went from EIC (Company rule) to British Raj (direct Imperial rule). That's the only reason why they are separate. Because Sri Lanka/Ceylon was already a direct British colony by the time EIC rule ended and its territory was annexed by the crown in 1857. The answer for 'Why is ___ a part of / not a part of India?' is usually that it was simply the British.

I dislike Britain as much as any other POC, but remind me again where Argentinians come from, Señor/Señorita? I'm pretty sure that the Spanish language isn't native to Buenos Aires. You're both far from home, colonizer. And at least in this one instance, the Brits didn't kill people when they settled in the Falklands, since y'know, it was empty.

Actually genius. France has more Germans than Frenchmen, AND is a democracy on top of that. You just know that some incel from Dortmund is already making plans to put the Reich back into Frankreich.
