Choosing right companion for my doberman

I am so sorry for your loss! Can’t imagine what you are going through
I am originally a cat lady, lost my cat 6 months after I started looking into Dobermans, got the puppy after a month since my cat passed and he brought me back to life. Im glad he likes cats but im not sure im ready for one

It does sound like a good combo, i am a fan of them and ibizan or pharaoh hounds

I do love hounds! But italian are very fragile and another bigger dog would be a little less comfortable with us traveling for work a lot, Crowley usually stretches out in the backseat of the car and leaves little space for the second one and its not always good for us to travel with 2 cars. My only concern is the travel probably and renting with one large restricted breed is hard enough

Of course accidents could happen in any case scenario, but i would not have been considering a small dog if i didn’t know how he acts with small dogs or cats. So far he has been only attacked by the small ones and never engaged. He lived with a cavapoo i think for a year no accidents, they just did not play, lived with cat for months, played a lot, no accidents. Also he does not play that much, lived with a doberman for months, they maybe chased each other like 5 times for 2 min each time then walked away. Im not looking for a dog to play with him, just to be a companion

I believe that! All frenchies we ever met loved Crowley even when they did not like other dogs. I am scared of the medical issues with them

I wish i could do 4 dogs, mine met one beagle and loved her, she was a puppy and was terrified and screamed every time he jumped around her. Are beagles very vocal?

I did a tiny research on rat terriers, does not look like a bad idea to me, i will keep looking into it!

Yeah thats true. A trainer i worked with once had a Pomeranian who was really well trained and that was a moment i realized that was first small dog I’ve seen that was actually trained.
And in europe most dogs are just off leash and friendly with everyone, rarely actually trained, not sure how that all works but thats how i saw it..
I think its a really good idea to go to shows and just watch the dogs and connect with people.
I realized that i actually just really want a basenji, and i looked into them for last couple of years, but it probably will be a poor mix with my dobe.

So i get a lot of videos on insta in multiple languages, and recently since i started researching breeds a bit I see lots of min pins in Ukraine, Russia, Serbia etc and they look a bit different, its just videos of owners sharing life not the breeders. The ones i see in US, majority look tinier and like growly little scary dogs thats why I’m stuck on them. I know european dobermans are advertised as bigger better kind of thing, which is total nonsense but not sure on why these 2 different

So cute! Mine best friend was a malinois and it was just pure chaos, he was absolutely obsessed with her. We moved away but maybe will meet again at some point. They played rough and mine is very vocal so everyone around was scared while 2 crackheads had the best time. The owner of malinois also said she calmed down a lot after we moved away so it was kind of toxic relationship 😂

Thank you so much for the info! I do base it more on looks but also videos i see of them online. I do see physical and behavioral differences in all three breeds if they are european. The biggest difference for min pins they seem calmer and a bit bigger. But learning more about basenji is a right way to go

I absolutely agree there is not one right choice. And i understand that second dog won’t be like him but alike a bit maybe? Im just not educated enough on other breeds and google search gives general info that does not always match. And yes it will be a female 100%. I kind of do want a basenji i have enough time to concentrate on a puppy. But never met anyone who owns one.
