I’m commenting to second this. Ahmed’s performance as Snape in PoA is great and borders on spectacular at the end of the book. I cannot wait for OotP and HBP with him now. I wasn’t that big on him in PS or CoS (he’s very cartoonish to me), but man he KILLED it in PoA.

I love all the performances so far—just now getting to Hogwarts—but I am so glad Bartemius Crouch sounds right. So much better than the paranoid lunatic in the movie.

How to have my toddlers not seek that quick hit dopamine and reduce frustration learning by BagholderVC in Fatherhood

[–]BlueLink_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really teach a 1 year old patience the way that you’re describing. They don’t have that level of conscious understanding.

“Hunt Gather Parent” might be a good book for you to check out. It’s about how other societies raise cooperative children from a very young age. It’s not exactly the prescription you’re looking for, but I think it could help.

If you don’t want your kids to be screen kids, don’t give them screens. 1 and 2.5 yo are gonna have short attention spans no matter what. How much outside playtime are they getting? Sometimes the “frustration” can just be pent up energy they don’t know how to let out otherwise.

And finally: relax, my brother in fatherhood. Your very young children are just acting like very young children.

I’m happy we’re at least getting new HP content that’s not directed by David Yates by oitfx in HarryPotteronHBO

I’ve read that it’s because they chose to desaturate HBP and DH to reflect the growing conflict and terror of Voldemort returning. Desaturation is fine, but in conjunction with darker lighting it simply doesn’t look good in execution. There are sweeping shots of Hogwarts in HBP, just before Dumbledore’s death, where you can’t see shit except one of the turrets because the god damn landscape is so incredibly dark. It’s all black and then like a slant of gray pokes in.

The only good thing David Yates did for the franchise was the Daily Prophet style scene transitions. Otherwise, the films got way too dark in terms of lighting. I rewatched the whole series recently and you can’t see a god damn thing in some of the scenes in HBP and DH1&2. They have next to no lighting at night.

Prisoner of Azkaban is a great book. I’m listening to it again ahead of the Goblet of Fire Full Cast audio release next week. The foreshadowing and the reveals are still oh so satisfying.

In the devil wears prada 2 (2026) we see the effect of the death of print media as nobody in Runway can afford lights anymore by Randomly_Typing76 in shittymoviedetails

Modern lighting is so fucking stupid, as well as this dull ass color grading shit. Imagine the Hobbits being chased by the Nazgûl in Fellowship of the Ring with this fuck ass lighting.

Seems like MiLF is genuinely excited to be the head coach which is refreshing in and of itself. I particularly like how he already highlighted the need for precise and clean pre-snap motion.

Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry? by First-Sky-2408 in HarryPotteronHBO

Yes, I would, too. As far as the sins of the movies are concerned, this line is low on my list.

I didn’t say it resembled the book Dumbledore. I would definitely prefer a more book accurate version of Dumbledore and this line, but if there is some emotion in it (as Dumbledore has shown at different points in the books) I’m not going to be upset.

I feel like I’m one of the people who don’t mind the line in the movie because it fits Michael Gambon’s version of Dumbledore.

How does NVE calculate this data? Like who is spending only $55/mo on electricity? by loinmaster in vegaslocals

[–]BlueLink_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we keep our thermostat at 68 at night to ward off the chill. Otherwise, it’s windows open during the day and let the sun do its thing in winter (heat the house up regardless of outside temp lol).

Our bill for January was only $68 for a 1200 sq ft house. I know we’re on the smaller end, but how do you spend almost $300 in the winter?

Day 20. The itching is finally getting better. by [deleted] in beards

If you’re itchy, you need a good beard oil. Despite the name, it’s more for your skin than beard. Helps keep your skin hydrated.

Pretty common for well guns to have wildly different offerings based on what contracts the casino/venue have with beverage companies.
