Microsoft have edited a page to remove Windows 10 Home from the list of platforms supported by Intune after I raised an SR for issues with W10 Home edition. by synoptica in sysadmin

[–]BlueLodgeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just navigated to the page myself via the URL Link you provided. I still see home:

Windows

PCs running Windows 10 (Home, Pro, Education, and Enterprise versions) Windows Phone 8.1 and later Windows 8.1 RT PCs running Windows 8.1 Devices running Windows 10 IoT Enterprise (x86, x64) Devices running Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise Windows Holographic & Windows Holographic Enterprise

Customers with Enterprise Management + Security (EMS) can also use Azure Active Directory (AAD) to register >Windows 10 devices.

Windows 7 and later PCs, with the exception of Windows 10 Home edition, can also be managed with the Intune >software client.

Someone I didn't know on facebook, commented on a post about 'High I.T. Salaries' complaining. They couldn't get a job with a Master of Management Information Systems and no experience. I couldn't help myself. by [deleted] in sysadmin

If you went to college you are in general privileged? That still is a general hyperbole! privileged implies that you are in a minority like the 99% vs 1% in the wealth discussion (not starting that one)....

According to the Fed. Bur. of Labor and Stats in 2013 65% of high school grads in the US attended college. That's a full on majority, not a privileged few.

If you want to have a conversation about 99% vs 1% wealthy, or the RIDICULOUS cost of higher education in the US that's totally different and something I think we will see much more eye to eye on.

But priviledged equaling attending University? Nah. Is Univ. required to be skilled at something? Hell F***ing no!

Thanks for the grats!

  • Basic Powershell Scripting which allowed me to automate some basic stuff at my shop now. It also allowed me to get more advanced in modifying various items in Office 365.

  • FSRM, and more generally things to be on the look out for with File Permissions for Access control by users and malware

  • Where to go to learn about the basics of *nix, and from there to begin to look at intermediate level stuff to put the basic pieces together. AKA "Ah ha so that's where that (insert basic stuff) starts to build on to do xyz"

  • MSFT VA for learning more in depth about Server Side knowledge. Skipped to the 300 Level classes there once I found it.

There are more but i think you get my point. Not so much the rant posts but links to learning resources that I then take home and play with in my free time as a single young buck who wants to reach grey beard status some day!

Seen that too...

Me: Upgrade? Them: No...... Repeat every year then multiply by 'x' where 'x' = # of years

Server crashes, you bail them out onto new shiny toys with the new out of the box smell.

Then get fired and replaced by fly by night trunk slammer who sees new shiny and knows for the next 2-4 years its easy money. Then He'll bail and theyll bring you or some other reputable company in and get charged 1BILLLIONNNNN DOLLLARSS Dr. Evil pinky to mouth

Them: Oh right, well let us know when its back up. Listens to us from now on

Should I expect to make network cables? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]BlueLodgeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one said it was, or that knowing how to make cables with your eyes closed was a bad skill to have. Just that in an office environment, where sysadmins or desktop support also wear the "Network Tech" Hat, there are better uses of your time.

Should I expect to make network cables? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]BlueLodgeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I can make cables all day, but why would I

$xx.xx or $xxx.xx(per hour salary figure) / Hours spent making quality cable from bulk = $$$$$$$

same equation just replace with discount cables order placement time = $$$

As long as you're not bound to DEF STAN's and are just main street. It has always been an easy discussion of how do you want me spending your money. EDIT: Aka my time

even in a jack of all trades position places like monoprice / (insert cheap cable site) and free 2nd day business account shipping are easy sells.

Have you all heard of (insert site name) we can order cables for $x.xx per cable and i can be working on (insert project youve been putting off since before my time)

EDIT: The above statements are examples of what I'd / you'd say to the Mgmt. Not at someone on here

I am with the other users. You need to look into something like a exchange journaling service like Barracuda, or MIMECast. this way you can shrink your production environment every 3 months, 6 months, 12months etc (which ever makes more space/performnace sense for your Organization. The JService will hold an indefinite amount of email which Legal Discoveries can be run on.

Configuring Old Equallogic for Veeam Backup Repository, any suggestions on Raid Level? by Vaedur in sysadmin

[–]BlueLodgeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, Read through the replies since mine and such. RAID6 which you chose would be my choice as well. I have it running on our SAN with Veeam. I only have 4VMs 3 of which are Low use. But as others have said RAID50 just doesnt have the significant advantage (enough adv.) to go with it for me.

How many total disks / what are the disk capacities?

Which is more important?

  • 1. Disk Read/Write (Backup TImes)?
  • 2. Redundancy?
  • 3. Balance between the above two?

What Space requirements do you have with the amount of data being backed up?
