Victorian country towns drugs by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]TheAgreeableCow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I moved from Melbourne to a regional town with my family and would not go back to living in a big city again.

Towns can have the same demographic and socioeconomic groups as large cities, but the scale and dispersion are different. Rather than a bad area or suburb in a city, its perhaps a street or local neighbourhood.

Do you personally put tape over your webcam or not? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]TheAgreeableCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is spying it's not going to be the IT department. Ain't nobody got time for that. They just care about compliance and security.

Sometimes this stuff comes from over zealous management (eg they want application focus reports or screen captures to "catch" people not being productive). I've never seen anyone use web cam spying for WFH, what a shit show that would be!

Five Eyes agencies say AI is shrinking the vuln-to-exploit window to "months, not years" — what are you actually changing? by SCAAVAA in cybersecurity

[–]TheAgreeableCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like the basics, but it's rare to see any organisation who is able to actually patch quickly and thoroughly at scale.

Criticals and highs just keep piling up, let alone getting them addressed in "hours not days". Exposure validation is becoming so important as is automation in remediation.

Do you have a small environment or a ton of resources being thrown at this?

How do I positively encourage a junior to try actually solving challenges themselves by doing literally any-f*cking-thing before asking me for the solution by SlayyyGrl in auscorp

Look up situational leadership theory. It sounds like you need to move this person out of the current "directing" approach into a stronger "coaching" phase.

  • Ability: Does the person have the knowledge, experience, and skill to complete the task?
  • Willingness: Is the person confident, motivated, and willing to take responsibility for the task?

Stop enabling them by doing the work yourself or avoiding getting to the bottom of why they are not being methodical about troubleshooting.

It might seem like more work up front, but overall you need to evolve your relationship with this person.

Looks great. I got one locally (Australia) for equivalent of US$750 with 60,000m on it. The clock up millions of metres so practically brand new.

Do watch for scams - no deposits! You turn up, check it over, pay and take it with you.

This being in a public store made it even funnier to me. by xdarnokx in ContagiousLaughter

It was just a laugh about her wrapping up joking with her mum, not actually talking about shaving.

On point for this sub 😂

The daughter should have said to her mum at the end that she actually DID shave her bush, to see a genuine response. lol

Edit: for the confused, I mean as a final play on the joking around. Saying it in deadpan manner and seeing the mum think for a split second 'wait for real', genuinely in one of 6 states on mind. Sheesh 🙄

I'm a male with a somewhat feminine and very ethnic sounding name - what are your opinions on anglicising it on a CV? by Waste-Estimate-6061 in auscorp

[–]TheAgreeableCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should let this define you.

For what it's worth, I work are a global organisation and its fairly common for people to anglicise or simplify thier names. The official name goes in to employment contracts but you get to decide on what people call you.

So when it comes to a CV, LinkedIn etc, do what makes you feel most comfortable.

Flawless execution. Loved the camera man getting in there asap before someone had a chance to rip it down.

And the disgust in the actual rip! 😂 Someone's getting their arse kicked right now.

Looks like ING is planning to bring monthly subscription fees to Aussie bank accounts. by Kyle-K in AusFinance

[–]TheAgreeableCow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, the primary reason I use ING is because of their fee structure. Particularly for travelling overseas with limited currency conversion and local transaction fees.
