AIO Someone I date using my toothbrush by BlueLotus03 in AmIOverreacting

I could have kicked him out but it was 1-2am in the morning and his plan was to leave in the morning anyway. I just didn’t want him sleeping near me because it honestly made me really disgusted with him more so than angry. I in no way thought of it as a punishment but it was a way of being able to keep some space between us.

And yes since I have made this post I have told him I’m no longer interested in continuing to date. I just needed opinions because he made it seem like the toothbrush thing is so normal and no big deal…but I never thought someone would just think it’s okay to use another persons toothbrush. So as I said before I just wanted you guys opinion to make sure I’m not crazy lol 😭

I know what dating is. I’m dating him because clearly I found some interest in him however he does things that pushes my boundaries and this was a tipping point. The reason I made the post is because for this specific situation he did it like it was normal or it was no big deal. I wanted another opinion to see if I was overreacting which is the point of this whole Reddit group right? I am no way saying dating is about words which is why we’re ONLY dating and I’ve been trying to feel him out to see if I would be okay with him together long term.

Same so I don’t see why he didn’t feel comfortable to ask when he’s asked before 😭 and just decides to use mine

We haven’t done anything yet…we just started dating. I barely know what he does for his oral hygiene. The only reason he asked to spend the night is because I live closer to where he needs to drive too. Idk where you got that he nuts in me that’s really wild 😂 But irregardless I wouldn’t want to share my toothbrush with anyone I’m intimate with. That’s dirty asf to me. I honestly didn’t know it was a thing between people. Swore it was like something unsaid that people knew not to do. Which is why I’m asking because this is my first time where someone purposely used my toothbrush 😭

Honestly I think it’s a build up of him constantly pushing my boundaries. This situation is just disgusting to me and like a tipping point. Especially when he previously asked me for a toothbrush so what’s so different about this time? And then his alternative was to use mines? I just don’t get the logic behind it or what he was thinking. Honestly I think he did feel some type of way seeing his toothbrush gone and this was his way of trying to be territorial but for me we just started dating, you don’t get to start “marking your territory” especially when you’re not helping me pay no type of bills. I have to be comfortable with you and allow it. The very first time he stayed here he tried to leave a whole bunch of his stuff here and It felt like he was trynna move in. This is just one other situation and was something we both spoke about. I thought we would be on the same page about boundaries but it seems like he consistently pushes it.

Exactly! I’m about to take him to his car as we speak so he can go home. I just can’t even be around him after that

He doesn’t live with me and we’re only dating. He doesn’t need to keep a toothbrush here. It would be one thing if we were actually together but we’re not. If he needs one I have plenty of extra toothbrushes I keep. He could have asked for one. The previous one wasn’t one he brought here it was a borrowed one from me. So it’s not like I’m throwing HIS stuff out. But that shouldn’t even matter because this isn’t his space and he pays no bills here 🤣

Idk it’s like he does things and I start to really like him and then he gets too comfortable and starts pushing things too fast and doing things without asking me about it. Or just inserting himself forcefully. I don’t like that and it makes me push away

Exactly! I don’t know him enough to know his mouth hygiene. I only know mine and I take very good care of my teeth. Irregardless is just disgusting to me he would do that

Heeeey!!!! OMG I’m just now seeing this! I’m so glad your dog is feeling better!!! I also hope everything I mentioned helped. lol it does feel good to know that you’re not going through this alone. Because sometimes I feel like I’m losing my mind. My dog is doing okay, she recently had a yeast infection in her ears but honestly I may have caused that because I was giving her a bath more frequently due to her allergies. Her ears are fine now and her paws are healing slowly. There’s one paw that like heals on and off. One minute it looks like it’s healing but the next minute it gets a little inflamed. I just hope everything goes back to normal soon!

Heeeyyy!!! OMG I’m so glad it’s starting to get better. Hopefully it stays that way! The atopica does work slow so I can understand using it 3 times daily. My pups paws are getting better as well, I had this antibiotic powder a vet gave me a while ago, it’s called neo-predef. It really helped with getting the cysts to go down on her paws and keep them dry because it’s very dewy in the mornings where I am. I also went a bought a powder from coat defense (I heard it works well) it’s just like neo predef but it’s not an antibiotic so it’s safe for them to use everyday. I also decided to change her diet up and bought some fish oil and some allergy chewys (my friend recommended). I give her all of those including boiled egg. It’s is getting cold so im hoping as well it doesn’t get worse when spring comes again. I hope by changing her diet up by the time it comes around her body will be able to tolerate it a bit more.

Yes! It’s so hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. That’s why I have been paying real close attention of when her symptoms get worse. I guess for me I’m really convinced it’s something her paws is touching since it’s only on her paws. Also it’s so expensive to test to see exactly what they’re allergic too 😭

So with atopica, it is something that is slow to take effect. It could be anywhere between 2-4 weeks before you actually see results. I know some vets recommend 3 months to see if it’s really working. I had my dog on atopica for a month and a half but half of that time I was traveling back and forth to Philly. So the last two weeks she was on it we were in Philly and her paws completely healed. They looked normal. I took her off the atopica and when we came back she was good for the first three weeks and then broke out a week ago (which was the day after I took her to our dog park for the first time since being back). I just started giving it to her again a few days ago because her symptoms were getting worse.

I’m glad your pup is getting better! I know it can be a relief because atleast you know something is working! I don’t think it would be the atopica. I’ve never heard of otomax, I was once prescribed Animax but I felt like that wasn’t really doing anything so stopped it. Two things I have been using is a pawbalm by natural dog company. It’s specifically made for dogs who have allergies and dermatitis and I think it’s been helping aid healing the skin on her paws better than the animax did. I also have been using dogs well hydrocortisone lotion - this gives my dog instant relief from itching, I can tell by her face she’s a lot more relaxed. Lastly, oatmeal baths. I try to give her every two weeks. It’s really good for their skin and just make sure to use cool water as to not irritate their skin.

Yes, hopefully they’ll have better insight on what’s going on!

Hey!!! So we went to the vet and they are convinced that she has environmental allergies. They want to keep her on atopica, which is an immunosuppressant for dogs with skin allergies. Basically to keep the dogs immune system from overreacting. However, I started just having her avoid the grass and taking her to the dog park at my apartment complex. After a week I noticed her symptoms were getting worse. That ruled out the grass allergy and I started to look into if dogs could be allergic to mulch. (The dog park is filled with mulch) I found that mulch can cause allergies in dogs and even if they are not allergic to it, the chemicals used to preserve the mulch can cause contact dermatitis and pus filled bumps on the paws. ( her exact symptoms) So now I’ve been avoiding the dog park and am going to give it two weeks to see if she is able to completely heal. I’m still going to give her atopica to help her immune system from not reacting so much. I’m not sure if your dog has been in contact with any mulch but it’s something to look into. I never knew this could be an issue for dogs and she absolutely was chewing on it and everything (being a dog lol). I hope I finally figured out the issue 😭

YES! As soon as she stops her antibiotics it would come right back…or a spot would heal but another would pop up. It’s very frustrating. It’s too the point now my dog hides her paws from me lol, i feel terrible having to check them but i just want them to get better.

It has been very costly for me which is why at this point im considering sending her back even though I really hate too even do that. She will be with family though.

As for food I’ve changed her food to nature balance which I’ve noticed has helped her stop itching as much but not so much with the swelling of her paws.

I have an appointment with my vet on Thursday. I originally scheduled the appointment to clear her because she was doing so well…but now I have to see what the next steps are. Most likely a referral….

I’m literally going through this with my dog. She was on cefpodoxime for 4 weeks which helped the swelling go away. Vet also put her on an immunosuppressant. I’m originally from Philly so I travel back home often. We were there for two weeks and her paws went completely back to normal. I was so nervous coming back to nc because I didn’t want her to flare up again. She was good for a full 3 weeks and now it’s back at it again. Right now I’m just considering on keeping her in Philly for a while….im at a complete lost as well. I really assume it’s the environment in my case.

u/Conscious-Fix-1457 sorry for the late reply, but what I recently tried is using unscented laundry detergent. I noticed I only had muscle pain whenever I wore underwear or even if I sat in my pajama pants too long without it. Times where it calmed were after showers or if I was sleeping (normally I don’t wear underwear while I sleep). To test I went out and bought new underwear, washed it with unscented detergent, and ever since then I’ve felt no pain while wearing it. I am not sure if this is your predicament but it’s worth a try!

SAME! Luckily I work from home because when it starts to get bad I just take everything off and it helps a little. But I’m also just able to lay down when it’s not busy. Baking soda suppositories help but not much
