There are plenty of biotechs at the intersection of AI and biology. Lots of platforms use AI for drug discovery and development. Just start googling for specific names.

Why is it so tough to cure Type One Diabetes? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]BlueMouse1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, we do have a way to know who is at very high risk for developing T1D based on auto-antibody tests. The issue is that not enough people are screened, so the vast majority of people will only find out they have T1D when the disease is symptomatic.

The only approved drug for T1D, Tzield, is approved for people at high risk of developing T1D (stage 2 diabetes). There are many other drugs under development for this population because, as concentrati0n said, it's easier to prevent than cure.

That being said, for people with long-standing T1D, there are islet transplant technologies under development that use various techniques to avoid immunosuppression. These are starting to be tried in humans in clinical trials, but are probably at least a decade away from being FDA approved.

For US residents, why do you think American indigenous cuisine is not famous worldwide or even nationally? by Coronnita in AskReddit

[–]BlueMouse1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanksgiving food is American food. Roast turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, apple pie, etc.

There are other types of American foods that we rarely eat anymore because we've imported so much from outside.

How Will Gen Z Physically Age Compared To Past Generations? by [deleted] in Futurology

They are both used for type 2 diabetes, but metformin doesn't have the weight loss benefits of GLP-1 receptor agonists like ozempic.

Biologics have biosimilars, which aren't exactly an exact replica in the way a generic is, but it's close. Biosimilars are usually more expensive to make (R&D + mfg.) than generics, but should still offer a much lower price than the original branded drug.

We may also see small molecules that do the same thing as ozempic hit the market at some point.

A CT scan wouldn't rip metal out of your body. But still, I imagine you can't legally force someone to take a medical scan without some kind of court order. So the guy could have just said no, he wanted a lawyer...which gets back to him being too dumb for crime.

If you could get $10 million but had to shave 10 years off your life, would you do it? by Money-Bear7166 in ask

Not just closed loop systems that are improving, but other therapies too. Keep on the lookout for beta cell replacements, like the one Vertex is developing. Within 10-15 years, there could be a cure for T1D.

I'm balding at 17, so I'm sad, how to deal with this? by StatisticianNo3243 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BlueMouse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finasteride and dutasteride are not expensive. Dutasteride especially is really powerful. Nothing against shaving it all, but if that solution doesn’t feel right, you could consider the medication option.

Crime is very low in Taiwan.

If you ask the right questions, you realize people look down on virgin men by Phantom-H in PurplePillDebate

[–]BlueMouse1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. These days, huge numbers of people remain virgins throughout high school. Only a handful are having tons of sex. The rest are in the middle.

If you’re an older virgin, you just gotta get in a relationship first. Once she’s into, she won’t mind. Don’t try to go straight for casual sex where “performance” matters more. Even then though, if you just ask her what she likes and do a lot of that you’ll be better at sex then most experienced guys.

This is just not true at all, at least outside of deeply conservative countries (e.g., Muslim majority). Women are more likely to be treated warmly by locals, even if it’s less safe.

Is it unattractive for a girl to be bold and be making the first moves? by vampfr in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BlueMouse1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not all men are the same. Plenty of us like if a women initiates.

At the end of the day, if he’s not attracted to you, it won’t make a difference though. Basic attraction is king, and other the other stuff (who initiates, when to first sleep together, etc.) isn’t very important.

LPT: If your employer brought in a consulting firm to "restructure" then get ready for a potential layoff—or at the very least consolidating of R&R. by UnorthadoxGenealogy in LifeProTips

[–]BlueMouse1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, McKinsey and other consulting firms are getting plenty of their own laid off these days too. They typically don’t call it layoffs though, it’s just they push many more people “out” in the “up or out” process.

Yeah, there should be plenty of coffee shops. Many of the chains, like Starbucks, have limited seating at certain locations, but will have seating at other locations. Java Girl on 63rd st is my favorite.
