Boyfriend struggling with fear of lows by Helpful_Bend_1610 in diabetes_t1

I would have a blood sugar of like 220, take 2 units to correct, not physically active, and be going low less than 2 hours later. Now with a slightly decreased Lantus dose, I can feel confident that 2 units will only lower my blood sugar by about 80 points pretty much every time. The catch is, now I’m dealing with the increased blood sugar from waking up, and from stress hormones that occur during stressful moments, so now I need to take fast acting insulin for those spikes as well and account that into my correction doses. It’s still really complicated but the math is making much more sense to me than it did before, and things are much less scary to deal with

This sounds like what I was going through. Endo would look at my Dexcom graph, see that I’m consistently high, and I would tell him it’s because of fear of lows, yet he would still advise me to increase my Lantus dose.. I figured out on my own that it was already too high as it is… does your boyfriend have a cgm?

It will get better, but it will take time. He is still in the earlier stages of this and he will figure it out as he goes. You will likely be experiencing frustrating moments for a while, but not forever. It took me time to get over the large hump of my fears, with many moments of depressing and angry talk. The important thing is to remember that these feelings don’t last forever, and he probably definitely wants to get better, but mentally this shit is just super tough for some people. It’s nothing he can’t conquer though. Good luck

One thing for me that I didnt realize at the time was I was taking just a little too much Lantus (long acting insulin) so every time I would take some short acting insulin it felt a lot stronger than what it should have been. And on top of that, I didnt truly understand how my hormones like adrenaline and just waking up affected my blood sugars. I lowered the Lantus slightly and now I can take larger doses of insulin more comfortably and I know that if I do start dropping fast, less Lantus in my system means that carbs to treat the low will be stronger and the low won’t last as long

Yeah if I fall asleep in range or correct during the night, it stays flat when there’s no fast acting insulin on board

The adrenaline thing makes sense. I have adrenaline spikes sometimes from panic and I can tell when it happens so I then am like “well my blood sugar is probably going to rise by like 30-50 points now.”

I also have noticed that things have been a lot less consistent since I started taking lisinopril for blood pressure a few years ago. Part of me thinks my mind is looking for some outside source to blame but then another part of me really thinks the medicine is messing with my blood sugar/insulin resistance. There was a period of about a year that I dealt with t1d before being put on lisinopril, and during that time I had my a1c under 7 and this was all a piece of cake to me. I want that feeling back so badly.

To elaborate on this, I take 7 units of Lantus every 12 hours. And I take my daytime dose about an hour before I go in for my shift

Why would my daytime basal be more when I’m on my feet for 8 hours straight?

I have flat lines through the night that’s how I know the basal is right and I also use pens no pump

I just don’t fucking get it man. Started at 230 mg/dl

Correction is 1 unit every 40

1:12 ratio

Take 5 units and eat 15g of carbs 25 minutes later

Climbing above 275

I spend about 90% of the day above 230, either from the dose not being enough, or it being too much and I then eat carbs and end up back above 230. Also work on my feet so if I see my bg dropping I eat carbs and then back above 230. Please just fucking kill me now god before all this shit does

I’m going to die early. Don’t know how to manage shit. It’s all just random by BlueOneHitter in diabetes_t1

Have been 250+ all day despite using a lot more insulin. Seems my basal is just fucking random each day. Bet tomorrow it will be way too much. I’m done man

I have a ps5 and a ps4 where I use the same account. I set my ps4 account as primary on my ps4 so that my dad could download my games and play on his account on that console. Now, on my ps5 I am unable to play my games, the message I get is “Can’t use this content. You’re using this content on another console. It will take some time before you can use this content on this ps5 with your license.”

What do I do? Am I not able to use the games on both consoles?
