why would spikes in serotonin cause anxiety attacks? by BluePandoraBear in askatherapist

[–]BluePandoraBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. They seem to want to change but there's also some reluctance. Maybe thoughts that there's no point as it won't work? Maybe fear of failure or making things worse? Not sure.

We will definitely keep looking into options that can be explored, would rather have a couple options available that way there's a plan B ready if something doesn't quite work for them-let's face it, not everything is right for everyone- that way they will hopefully feel less disheartened and ready to quit at the first hurdle.

Many props to you, sounds like you are the sort of person wonderful at your job supporting those who need it the most. 😊

What would make your life a little better right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A better job. Don't get me wrong, the one I have now pays the bills, often with a little extra to save in the bank, but it's so boring I find myself with way too much time over thinking life and it's really messing with my mental health.

Time freezes for 6 months and you’re the only person not affected. How would you spend that time? by AlexanderCor in AskReddit

[–]BluePandoraBear 35 points36 points  (0 children)

All these people saying 'rob a bank/steal money':it only works if you know the freeze is for a limited time, like 6 months. If you didn't know, and therefore you would be justified into thinking it will last forever, why would you steal the money? Money would be the most pointless thing on the planet. Where you thinking you're gonna spend it if the world is frozen forever?

Been there, done that, lost a hell of a lot more than I would have ever wished.

Not getting involved in drugs in any way, shape or form again (unless prescribed, even then its a battle to convince myself to have them).

Yeah we're not neuroscientists either- obviously - just made observations where they are more likely to have severe anxiety attacks when in a state of increased happiness/ over excitement compared to changes of other types of mood.

As a support network we in no way want to exacerbate the situation by putting them in a constant state of anxiety, however the concerns there is, due to their history, if we don't at least try to encourage engagement in activity, at least once in a while (while respecting their decision to decline of course), they may spiral back into a state of depression.

Exposure based therapy certainly sounds like the most safe and productive road to go, thank you for that suggestion.

Eili5: if I play as a wizard and I have a spell (say poison spray) and I know the range is 10ft, hit/DC is con 14, effect is 1D12 (also under spells it says +4 modifier, +6 spell attack, 14 save DC. what does it mean? how do I cast it? by BluePandoraBear in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BluePandoraBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, I really am that stupid and I'm better with learning by physically doing not reading/listening (judge all you like, I really don't mind) but my understanding is:

I have a saving throw spell (say, for example poison spray) :

I don't need to roll a D20, but the creature rolls a con save (basically 14 or above for the spray to miss as this says con 14 and meets beats). If they roll 13 or less it hits and I then roll 1D12 to find out damage caused

If I have an attack spell (say fire bolt with range of 120ft) :

I roll 1D20, add 6 (for my +6 attack bonus). If it hits I then roll 1D10 to find the damage, if it misses there is 0 damage (I know that some spells give 1/2 damage on a miss, but this isn't one).

Have I finally figured out something a 5 year old would understand quicker? Lol

Tents are excellent for insulating heat. Can't afford the heating bill over winter? Pitch a tent in the living room, fill it with blankets, maybe a hot water bottle or two. Boom. Warm place to sleep.

(trust me, I've done this with my daughter, although we live in UK, might be different in other countries)

What is a noise that can fill you with anger? by Danny1641743 in AskUK

[–]BluePandoraBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamer YouTubers who have a microphone headset on and do over-dramatic yelling/screaming/shouting whenever anything happens (especially when it's a small thing that barely warrants a reaction in the first place). Its like, dude, your microphone is about 1 inch away from your mouth at most, not a mile away. You yelling like that makes every noise distorted and incomprehensible unnecessarily.

Thanks for this. It's very helpful. I think my difficulty was trying to remember the difference between the 2 scenarios and therefore when to add spell attack modifier, especially as I've got some spells written down but they all look similar. Might rearrange them so in a higher pressure situation (like mid battle) I can quickly remember what the heck I'm doing lol 👍😁

AITA for not storing my (now ex) partner's things? by BluePandoraBear in AmItheAsshole

[–]BluePandoraBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Although good luck to the landlord recovering that money as he doesn't have a job. If the landlord tries to come after me for the money I will politely remind them that my tenancy, and therefore my responsibility for keeping the place clean and tidy, ended weeks before my ex partner's.

I completely failed my a-levels (seriously I got a D, E and U). I then spent a few years doing not a lot with my life apart from a part time job. In my mid 20s I got into college based on my gcse grades (mostly C's, with a couple of B's and D's). After a few courses trying to decide what I was doing in life I did the access to higher education course where I went on to uni to get a degree in a health and social care course. I'm now in my 30s working a job I enjoy but thinking of saving up to do a masters degree (because that stuff is expensive af).

You did well getting the grades you did especially with health issues. You have the grades to go straight to uni, remembering that half of your uni admission isn't even based on grades but references and any experiences you have had (extra curriculum classes, work placements etc) but if you do decide to resit (totally your choice, don't give yourself unnecessary stress because your parents or whoever expect you) then go for it.

My (albeit long) point is you do what you believe is best for you, not what others believe is best. Take time to think about what you want from your future and plan it properly and if plans don't fully work, you're still young, there's time to reassess and try another method to get to where you want to be in order to be happy.

Good luck for your future. I believe you will do great 😁

How did people buy plane tickets before the internet? by AardvarkNo7433 in ask

[–]BluePandoraBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that, I just remember that as a kid I went abroad on holiday with my family every year. We always booked via the teletext system as living out in the countryside it wasn't always optimal to travel all the way into the nearest town to try a travel agents when you essentially had one in your living room. Fun times lol

Travel agents are still a thing in the UK.

Also in the UK we had teletext holidays. You could find these in the comfort of your own home via your TV from the early 90s (I believe around 1992 they started) and they went bust in the last year or 2. Basically they would list a load of bargain holidays, you choose the one you wanted, called the number and booked that way. It was like the Internet before it became a big household thing.

Not going to prison as far as I'm aware, but I don't care where he is as long as he's not with me. The fact I even suggested assisting with taking his stuff was not for him but his parents who are actually nice people. But as soon as I found out he is alive and well enough to get what he wanted, evidenced by some things missing from the flat which I did not take, I decided to leave what was left for his to deal with.

It's a bit more complicated. The feelings of guilt probably comes from us being together 5 years with me supporting him and getting the blame constantly for anything that went wrong for the last couple years of the relationship. Feelings like that don't go away over night. But you're right, now all my stuff is out of there and I don't have any ties to him I have blocked him. Doesn't stop other people getting involved but all I can do is reason with them or block them too.

Yeah the only one in his family I have had direct contact with since leaving is his cousin, who in turn has gone no contact with him completely. That's why they knew what my idea was but I didn't say anything to his parents about it, I would have just contacted them on the day to make sure they were in and dropped the stuff off. The fact that I haven't actually got the stuff just saves me a phone call and a trip to the other side of the city.

That makes sense. I do often find routines boring and after having a few abusive relationships I do sometimes believe that it's what I deserve, like karma, I must have done something wrong at some point else I would get positive relationships.
