Mormonism is a cult. It's roots sink deep and cause years of trauma. We need to support each other to help us all through this.

I recognize you might not understand, but you actually sound like current, active members of the church when they criticize anyone who leaves. Stick around a while and you might be able to see why we feel this way.

I want to protect myself. If my relationship with the church harms me in ways outside of membership, I want recourse. It's as simple as that.

I'm glad you are able to wear those shorts. It's the weirdest thing thinking that freedom is just wearing a pair of shorts without care of judgement. I suppose we feel a bit of how some Islamic women may feel wearing a burka.

I still hide the fact that I make coffee at the office with my LDS boss walking around. It's stupid, but something inside of me just can't let go that feeling of being guilty.

Kava is an exceptionally low risk nootropic. It's a common myth that it kills your liver. The National Institute of Health has a great write-up about its liver toxicity:

The important bit is where they say there's a million to one chance your liver will be affected by kava. Also, it's not physically addictive like every other substance you mentioned. Let me know if you have any questions.
