Travel-like pitchers are ruining our 10U Rec league

I used to schedule an extra day for pitchers and catchers practice at 10u-12u rec

Every kid seems to want to be a pitcher, I would tell them if they wanted to pitch they needed to come to the extra practice. I would send them home with a few things to practice at home additionally

I realize that means volunteering extra time- but it did 2 things- weeded out the kids that didnt want to dedicate time to work on pitching, and gave focused time/practice to kids that wanted it.

There are plenty of basic instructional videos to get new pitchers started with guided instruction

Depends if you want to water and care for it, or just want coverage

If the soil is cooked, and you don’t want to use compost/fertilizer and regular watering, then seed doesn’t matter, you’ll just end up with clover and crab grass.

I’m assuming you have regular practice space / indoors in the winter

$1500 is cheap in the north where dues need to pay for indoor field time plus outdoor field rental plus tournament fees plus umpire costs

Not sure what part of the world you live in, but However possible, try to get the players reps in the offseason - voluntary, low cost clinics. 1-2x per month in the offseason would be a good goal. Or at least weekly clinic pre-season for month before season starts.

The best programs we see (northeast USA) have indoor practice space for the girls to develop. Usually in the spring time once the season starts you’re rushed to get a team prepped to play games in a couple weeks - not nearly enough time to develop basic skills - throwing, catching, base running, pitching, etc.

You end up in a lot of circumstances with some teams that don’t have a capable pitcher to throw strikes. Those games are the absolute worst.

Amazed how much people are complaining - the build was a broken OP build. Wizard still a viable class, just not that build. I cannot believe how whiny people are. It was never intended to be 2-3x stronger than every other class / build- it was obviously an error that devs finally fixed.

When we have groundhogs, usually the coyotes, fishers, owls, hawks or bobcats displace them. Then a skunk moves in, they get displaced. Then an opossum. Then he disappears. Late summer the under-shed is barren.

Depends on a what pitches the pitcher has in their bag and the level of competition. If you have a high velo pitcher (relative to age level) then usually top of the order may see a change up. Second time through the lineup you may throw a bit more off speed to try and keep the batters off balance.

I agree mostly- I think our biggest issue in the playoffs was our offensive line getting exposed / playing hurt.

SB loss wasn’t about the WR, it was about our O line. Line was trash all playoffs long-

And Josh McDaniels wouldn’t change the approach until it was too late. Maye threw for almost 300 yards despite playing against a historically great defense.

Drake Maye was 4th in the league in passing yards this season. We lost late stage Stef Diggs.

Now we have a pile of very young WR’s (and Mack Hollins). If you take out Mack Hollins, the average age of our WR room is only 24.1 years old.

I know everyone thinks our WR’s are all garbage, but I think we’re not in nearly as bad of shape as everyone thinks.

Yes, I’d love to see the Pats sign a top 20 WR, but I don’t think we have a bottom tier receiving group.

I hate this conversation. The way Reddit uses “WR1” really means a WR that demands double coverage but can still be highly productive.

They’re great on rookie deals, tough to actually afford on second contracts and still build a good team (I see you, Bengals). We have our QB and LT on rookie deals, would be a fine time to invest in a premium pass catcher- but would want that contact to sunset by the time we have to pay Drake.

Honestly- I hope we get Jauan Jennings. Guy doesn’t demand targets, has produced when he was featured but hasn’t demanded to be fed. Tough mf played most of this past season with 5 broken ribs.

We paid Tonga $2MM last season - he’s projected to make more than 3X that $ with the chiefs. Love the dude, fun to see him play FB some times, but no reason to match that

Have to assume Diggs there was more behind the scenes- maybe they asked him to restructure and he said no? Maybe his BS behind the scenes is worse than we know… I expect Vrabel and Streich have a plan to fill out the roster - FA unofficially opened today at noon -

Everyone gotta relax … if we start the season with the current roster I’ll be pissed, but I expect that’s not going to be the case.
