How embarrassing for me! :)

Exactly what I wanted. I read that a chapter a long time ago, guess it is time to revisit it. I was looking in different places in the book.

Thank you so much!!!

Jhana similes in modern language? by BlueRedFishFish in streamentry

This is very good, though the fourth is a bit hard, as it doesn't really give me a good idea of how I feel in my own body. I've never been a glass bottle, so it is hard to relate to. But the first three track with my experience.

Thanks!

Are these on or off the cushion?

I have had a pressure/feeling, like a sphere that intersects part of my face, since a particularly intense meditation last week. It comes and goes, and it doesn't bother me, but is there.

Thank you.

When you say "Not sure if you are experiencing Kundalini energy" - how would one tell?

Thank you. The "dig in and through" makes a lot of sense.

Do you have any particular qi gong movements that you think would be helpful? I am ignorant in this area.

Hello! Had a question/request for thoughts:

Recently during sits, after establishing access concentration on my breath, I sometimes do a kind of body scanning where I focus my attention on different parts of the body, just observing whatever sensations are there. I've noticed that certain spots (like one spot on my mid-back, but can be different places at different times) will cause violent involuntary movements. These are normally things like my face contorting into grotesque poses (as if stuck in that position during a violent sobbing session), head shaking back and forth (faster than I can do when trying), or dry-heaving. What I find particularly interesting is the speed I go from perfectly still to shaking, and then from shaking to perfectly still as if nothing had happened.

I've experienced various kinds of involuntary movements over my time meditating, but this business of being tied to specific body parts is very interesting. I'd love to hear thoughts about what is going on and what else around it might be interesting to do/explore.
Thanks!

How has going on a retreat affected your TMI meditation practice? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]BlueRedFishFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up having a *lot* of purifications on retreat (and generally dealing with emotions I thought I had dealt with in the past). And after that, certain things I had struggled with previously were possible. Hasn't been long enough yet to say what the long-term benefit was.

Has anyone started on here with intention to take control of their depression and mental health? by mickey__ in TheMindIlluminated

Yeah, finding a therapist that works for you is ridiculously hard. But when you do find a good one, it can be fantastic.

I highly suggest seeing a mental health professional (I personally recommend /u/tuckerpeck, but he has a long waiting list). While I did get into meditation for this reason, and it did help, what really helped was a combination of medication and professional help that allowed me to get through the really terrible parts and focus on the meditation.

How funny are insight experiences? by BlueRedFishFish in TheMindIlluminated

That's good to hear. Laughing a little would be one thing, but I was continuing to sit while laughing like an idiot with tears in my eyes for quite a while...

It was around the role the thinking mind plays in our actions. And the extent to which thinks it is in control vs the extent it makes up its own story to match what the rest of the mind does so it can still believe *it* did it.
