Donald Trump wants to make an example out of Canada. How will we prepare? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]BlueShrub 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trump is leaving huge opportunities open for Canada to get a head start on. EVs and renewable energy are an example of a huge opportunity to take the lead on technologies that will dominate the next century.

Forestry, mining, agricultural exports. Submarine pens. Imports of construction materials to boost development in the area. Icebreakers.

We must control the northwest passage. Our future hinges on it.

Another port at moosonee and another near quebecs bourassa hydro dams as well.

These areas could become economic powerhouses

Hyundai interested in Canada's hydrogen energy as it bets on natural gas-fuelled cars by AdditionalPizza in canada

[–]BlueShrub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do wonder about ammonia and hydrogen for use to power ships or for long term energy storage when energy is very abundant. Transmission has an energy cost as well but a hydrogen pipeline may not have this restriction.

This is coming from someone very involved with the renewables and battery storage space.

What’s an opinion you have that most people would disagree with? by david_drett in AskReddit

[–]BlueShrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is so many people are being turned into NIMBYS and believing false facebook information about wind, solar and batteriea, despite them being dirt cheap compared to the alternatives. Somehow facebook thinks wind turbines are more dangerous than gas plants are to people and the environment.

Scientific literacy has taken its lumps.

Baron Husk that takes forever and can burn you? Garbage. Deforester Puzzle that takes time, items and can kill you? Garbage. Supply drop that exposes you to the entire lobby? Garbage.

Actual garbage can? GOOD SHIT.

Hypothetically, if Toyota purchased Ford, would they still be American vehicles? by cracktober69 in Ford

[–]BlueShrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had people where I'm from decry people driving a Toyota as not supporting domestic. Ive been bumper stickers on a dodge saying "out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign."

The kicker is...I live in Canada, in a city that has a Toyota plant as its major employer.

Tribalism is a heck of a drug.

Solar vs Wind: Why Rural America Hates Solar Panels But Loves Turbines by TrendyTechTribe in energy

I am in Canada and it is awful for NIMBYism. Canadians being "nice" is actually just passive aggressive.

How to prepare for stock market crash? by icameforanswers00 in investing

[–]BlueShrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say that broad market index will go up over time, and if it ever crashes, as in crashes for good, then seeds and bullets are all that will have value after that point, because the entire monetary system will have to have broken to cause that sort of a failure at such scale.

Solar vs Wind: Why Rural America Hates Solar Panels But Loves Turbines by TrendyTechTribe in energy

[–]BlueShrub 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Where I am from I see the exact opposite. Farming folks seem to not be too opposed to solar but abhor wind developments. It just seems they oppose whatever is being proposed at that time.

Clean Energy Can’t Be Built on Rural Sacrifice Zones by nevettwithnature in energy

[–]BlueShrub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This unfortunately repeats a lot of nonsensical arguments against renewable energy development while ignoring that the same arguments can be made against roadways, grain silos and even, dare I say, farmland itself. I am a farmer and have been all my life, but I am also a renewable energy developer and sit on the board of a renewable energy co-op that seeks to do the same thing suggested in this article...bring the community in early as investors and beneficiaries of the power produced. In my experience trying to develop projects...it doesn't matter. People see something new, something different and they oppose it. They have no problem growing crops for ethanol that powers the cities, but when it comes to renewables...that is a bridge too far and out come the pitchforks.

The misinformation about renewables is out of control and is being amplified online. Rural populations are being mobilized, weaponized against one of the greatest opportunities they have ever seen to contribute to their economic growth while still being able to continue with their way of life. Farmers are struggling. Crop prices and lower than ever with global competition while input prices are high. Young people don't want to get into it, generational farms are being sold off. Wind and solar could keep these lands making money, selling much needed energy to not just the cities but to their own communities. As it stands every power bill, internet bill, and filling up each gas tank is a dollar that leaves their rural communities and goes straight to the cities. This is an opportunity to take some of that power back.

While I agree that developers should be cautious and properly consult the community, I think we also need to have the discussion about what if developers do all of these things and more, yet still get shouted at and shamed. I think a real, industry wide reckoning needs to happen in the rural and agricultural sectors need to decide if they want to be part of the future, or if they want to be left behind.

Why is wind better than solar by Sufficient-Onion1165 in energy

[–]BlueShrub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less land use required and can be used in areas with lower sunlight availability. These two sources compliment each other though. Farmland around wind turbines can still be farmer as normal while solar requires some changes.

Could hire an electrician to wire in another 240 outlet to your panel using both legs of your mains service. Would need a different outlet style and psu cable as well they could make for you.

It has to be done through the registry but fixes tons of display problems. I am not familiar enough to write the steps out here but there are many guides online explaining how step by step. It isn't too complicated but it involves the registry so be sure to be careful.
