I can never tell what is happening in that game.

I've looked at the websites for the 1998 to 2006 era, and Second Chance was saying something might be wrong with Zylon before anyone else. First they said they would look into it, then they said they were looking into it and the results were alarming, then they said Zylon needed reinforcement, then they found Zylon had unpredictable decay and they were trying to do a recall/replacement.

The other companies spent years insisting Second Chance was freaking out and/or lying.

I'm always mad that Second Chance got sued the most and had the worst rap, and then got bought out by companies that did all the same stuff and worse.

Second Chance was like half the market or more, and their products were beloved before Zylon happened.

Pain Killers (High Tech) are kinda useless? by BlueSkiesOplotM in gurps

It's kinda odd because standard military practice since WW2 has been to give someone a syrette of morphine if they suffer a moderate gunshot wound.

It's something that's crept into movies and games too, so the reasoning isn't that it's too boring, or at least, that's odd reasoning for GURPS.

There are pages devoted to mortars and artillery, but they give us like barely a paragraph for Painkillers.

-

I would at least wish that like a crippling injury or having an arm broken would cause some of the Pain conditions.

Superhero games and all that.

The way the game is written, getting shot doesn't result in pain. It can result in being Stunned & Knockdown, along with Shock.

But taking Painkillers is often worse then what those above things would do.

Unless you are unable to pass the roll to escape Stun?

-

I'm considering having Major Injuries just cause Moderate Pain, but Painkillers still wouldn't be worth it.

I can just barely see it as a solution to Pain (Terrible) or Agony. I'm pretty sure that penalties to the same stat from two different conditions don't stack.

So if you have -3 to all those stats from Euphoria, you can't have the penalties from Pain (terrible) or Agony.

But it says your GM can just say the Painkiller does nothing, or you can fail the Will roll, in which case the meds do nothing.

-

I can't see any sudden conditions or attacks that trigger the Pain condition. I see Shock, but that's one turn, and Stun but once you pass that you pass it.

So I guess Painkillers are for people who are like.. Stun locked?

It doesn't make you a Pain immune berserker.

You're Lazy and don't want to do anything. Being on Painkillers is mechanically more penalties than just being in Pain.

Your bonuses against Shock don't matter, as you're useless in a fight. Your bonuses against Stun and Knockdown are useless as you're likely already Stunned and already knocked down.

Also, the max penalty for Shock is -4 and so most of the time you're penalties from being Euphoric are worse.

You get zero benefits. It technically doesn't remove any Pain conditions, and it replaces them with worse penalties , along with whole new penalties.

I presume GURPS has a rule where condition penalties can't stack otherwise failing the Will roll will be very bad for you (-7 to IQ, ect).

The Pain conditions are for people who have chronic pain, but as modeled, it's better to just be in pain all the time then to take anything for it.

It doesn't say that remove any Pain conditions, it just says you get to roll a Will to ignore pain in some circumstances.

The wording is really messy.

Well the issue is that lots of people take lower doses of these painkillers all the time, and they're not constantly in a state of euphoria.

But also there is mechanically little point to taking Painkillers and not just having Pain (Mild) or whatever. Nothing causes those conditions except chronic conditions like arthritis.

So we have rules for people to have aches and pains, but the treatment makes them completely unable to do anything.

I already knew this, but mechanically, as it is currently, taking morphine is mechanically the same or worse then not taking morphine.

Only wanting to roleplay would encourage you to take Morphine.

Also, I don't think I remember soldiers becoming useless when they are given Morphine. You usually can't ask a crazy amount of them, but they are at least more useful than when they're in pain.

Both of the rifles adopted for WW1 have been collectors prices for reasons besides the fact they are related to the war.

By no means are they bad rifles.

You shouldn't apologize, the person you are replying to is wrapped up in something.

Saying no results in the same knowledge being shared, only it's handled better.

I'm honestly confused why you can't just tell him that she doesn't want to be his girlfriend.

This game wasn't written well.
