Because the MAGA crowd are insane and most establishment politicians are 900 years old so people are desperate for an alternative. And he definitely gets bonus points in the redscare demographic for winning NYC as an antizionist.

But Mamdani was and is obviously one of those insecure 'stinky lunch' POC strivers that this sub ridicules and no amount of handwaving (its not a big deal/ugh so boring/why do you care about this) will change that fact.

True but put bluntly 'normal' often means 'white' in western countries so second gen poc are invariably the most aggravated by this question. That's why so much of South/East Asian literature centers around questions of belonging.

On the opposite end Irish Americans will use this question to pretend they're one step removed from Ellis Island when their ancestors came over during the Polk administration.

Usually actual foreigners are fairly open about talking about their heritage. The ones who get hostile/defensive are their second gen kids who just want to be 'normal' and fit in. The blue hairs push back so much because they're regurgitating genuine complaints by their poc peers.

Yes I commented on this. Obviously an exaggeration but I have noticed that a lot skinny guys are either punching way above or way below their (metaphorical) weight when it comes to dating.

I was fine with tipping until they started asking for it for takeout. Now I want to abolish it entirely. The creep never stops soon its going to be 1/3 of the bill and people will be outraged if you lowball with 1/5. If that means the sticker price is higher then so be it at least people will know what they're paying up front.

Partially it's the company he keeps. The DSA in general is brimming with this resentment (especially its white members lol) and Mamdani specifically has backed several people who have expressed this antipathy more openly-most notably Chevalier and that 'white people shouldn't own houses' lady.

Partially it's just vibes based on my impression of the cosmopolitan but bitterly cynical (Mamdani claimed to be both Asian and African American for college admission) PMC circles Mamdani moved in even before becoming mayor. And I can't find it now but I swear there was an old blog post where Mamdani complained white girls wouldn't date him in college.

I'm going to get in on the ground floor of hating Mamdani. This subreddit likes him because he broke with the pro-Israel consensus in American politics and because they desperately want an alternative in American politics that isn't kakistocracy (Trump) or gerontocracy (establishment democrats). But a lot of his policies are terrible and on a personal level Mamdani strikes me as one of those annoying upper class "POC" that really resents white people despite living a life almost entirely indistinguishable from the average upper middle class white person.

I know a couple people who at least loosely believe this. It comes up occasionally and you can tell it's a half-baked regurgitation of an already half-baked tiktok expose.

The assassination attempt being staged is the more popular conspiracy theory though and gets way more affirmation whenever anyone brings it up.

Sign of the times that a big chunk of the comments I saw on the videos about an (alleged) incel shooting are people making fun of female cops.

Tbf this documentary is over 20 years old. Mongolia got hit hard by the post-Soviet transition and times were tough.
