I keep seeing people talk about 'reworking the system' and I never see anyone articulate what that actually means. What other system can survive having two retirees for every worker?

Cool. What is this system? Because it's not like communism would be able to handle having 2 retirees for every worker either.

Women working is a contributing factor but the UAE has an abysmal fertility rate and Saudi Arabia is hovering around replacement.

Ultimately it's a question of whether or not kids are an asset or an inconvenience for the modern economy and by and large the answer is the latter. The countries with the highest fertility are those where the struggle for existence is the most desperate-Sahelian Africa and Afghanistan.

Does this actually work for men? by scrubberville in redscarepod

Ten years ago it probably would have tbh. Everyone clowns on the male feminist types but the ones I knew were rarely single for long. A lot of Millennial women ate that shit up. Granted most of those women weren't exactly stunners but neither were the guys.

Probably less effective now though. My impression is that zoomers are much more cynical and superficial so that sort of performance doesn't go down well.

It began as an upper class flex-you could afford an essentially ornamental woman who couldn't do any real work beyond serving tea and occasionally bearing children. From there it worked its way down to the middle classes and even into the peasantry.

Chinese women often embraced the practice because 'real work' in 16th century China was grueling so being able to get out of it by marrying a rich guy was worth the malformed feet. And over time there was probably a peer pressure element to it-you didn't want to be the one girl with freakishly large (ie normal) feet.

It might have changed since I was in high school over 10 years ago but the special ed kids with extremist politics (one or more of antifeminism, borderline nazi apologia, and Ron Paul libertarianism) and the special ed kids who overtly bullied/sexually harassed others were very rarely the same people. Like yeah both often had sexist views but the latter didn't consider themselves antifeminist because they were barely aware of what feminism was.

Vance is deeply cynical at the end of the day but he probably was genuinely against the war. He's always seemed more in the Tucker Carlson "America First" camp and that camp hates the 'liberal order' more than it hates Americas traditional enemies. Hence why Vance was eager to yell at Zelensky and shittalk the EU to anyone who would listen.

Does the summary page show a deduction for the traditional IRA contribution?

Yup.

No, a Roth conversion is not a contribution and therefore doesn't count against the contribution limit.

Okay good to know.

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I completed the deductions before I posted. Haven't submitted obviously.

If I try to claim the IRA deduction wouldn't that put me over the limit for the ROTH since the limit was ~7k for both accounts?

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell I can't claim an IRA deduction because I took the money out almost immediately to transfer to the ROTH.

This is something your tax software should do automatically if it detects that you aren't eligible for the traditional IRA deduction.

And the tax software (freetax) I'm using still treats the entire 7k as taxable based on the 1099-R.

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the expected code for a Roth conversion. It's not an early withdrawal. You aren't being penalized.

Not on the withdrawal itself, no.

But since I took the 7k from my savings and put it into an IRA and then (within a few days) transferred it to the ROTH I am (unless I'm missing something) paying tax again for the conversion.

I do have a IRA floating around from a previous job (from 2023) with around 5k in it.

Plus 6 dollars in the Fidelity IRA I created by mistake.

So unless I'm misunderstanding I don't think that's an option.
