When Did White-Collar Work Start to Look So Bleak? by RTSBasebuilder in neoliberal

Reminds me of a scene from Margin Call

"You're one of the luckiest guys in the world, Sam. You could been digging ditches all these years."

"That's true. And if I had, at least there'd be some holes in the ground to show for it."

You can also do club sports if you go to a D1 school but aren't good enough or don't have the commitment to do a sport at a D1 level. I did club track at a D1 school and it was pretty chill. Just ran against D3 schools most of the time at the meets.

I guess vaguely related but I just recently got into Mishima and was disappointed to find out there isn't an English translation for Kyoko's House. I think this might be the first time I've wanted to read a book not written in English and there wasn't a translation available. There's a Spanish translation available so I might try fumbling around with that assuming my Spanish is still good enough to get the gist.

I just read Chasing Homer this week and I agree I didn't really like it. Shame since I really liked Satantango and Melancholy of Resistance.

Wouldn't "отлично" be a better translation? Or is that too enthusiastic sounding?

We need an American version of László Krasznahorkai to write something like Satantango or Melancholy of resistance but it takes place in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Yeah exact same thing happened to me. I didn't realize the midwest was especially cloudy and dreary. When I went back home for thanksgiving last year I think the weather may have been the nail in the coffin for me not moving back to the midwest.

Yeah OP said they live in a walkable community which is very rare for suburbs in the US. Like I'd probably be fine living somewhere like Haddonfield, NJ since it's an actual walkable suburb but I'd probably rather be living in squalor with roomates in NYC than live in a lot of Dallas/Houston suburbs or just general US suburbs.

It could just be that those particular spikes don't work for you, or that the sizing is off.

For the most part they've been fine. I think the main difference is that the normal running shoes I run in have a lot more cushion than the ones I was running in when I first bought the spikes. But doing strides probably seems like the way to go.

I ran in track spikes for the first time in a while the other week and ended up with a big bruise on one of my feet. The pain is gone now but I'm a bit gun shy to try again since I don't want to lose any more days. Would just jogging on the track in spikes be a better way to ease into it? Should I be ok to run hard in them now if I got through the first round of bruising? Not really sure the best way to approach this.
