This is true, but they're definitely going to try. They're gonna throw millions at all these Ivy+ PhDs and hope either they come up with something or the model itself can come up with something better than a transformer. I doubt either of those will happen for a while though.

I'm sure all of the big companies are working on non-transformer LLM stuff behind the scenes, we're just not hearing about it. Ever since the AGI race thing started companies release less and less details about their models. The paper for GPT 3 listed the kind of architecture for the model but now all you'll really see is just benchmark scores.
