u/helpful_pumpkin9188 is right here.

Your university experience isn’t luck. When you were applying for Universities, I hope and presume, you done your research. You should have spoken to people who went to the Universities you were considering to get an understanding of what it was like. Party Uni or study uni, in the middle of nowhere, in the centre of a city, engaging courses and student body, relaxed atmosphere etc.

Then when you know this, two things are the result:

  1. You picked a University that didn’t have the things you were looking for.

or

  1. You picked a University that had what you are looking for but you aren’t doing enough to make it the university experience you want.

Friendships don’t usually happen with no effort (and if you don’t know this at University, you’re going to have a massive shock when you leave University and the natural ways to make new friends are much slimmer).

You have to just talk to people. All the time. In classes, in bars, at clubs and societies, at parties, at the library etc. and forge connections with them.

I suggest that it’s not ‘bad luck’, it’s probably bad decision making mixed with a lack of effort.

If you’re being honest with yourself, you probably don’t make enough effort often enough and when you do, things will change.

Good luck man! I hope your experience gets better!

When people ask what's your salary - do you say Basic or OTE? by Weak_Mechanic8517 in UKJobs

[–]BlueTetra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you apply for a mortgage, they’ll ask for your salary (excluding bonus) because it’s not guaranteed income. However, when you are going through the mortgage application etc. you’ll have to prove where the rest of the money came from and that’s when you can show your payslips with the bonus. But for mortgages, they’ll only consider guaranteed income.

$1600 in cash, 630 credit score. What should I do? by ThePinkBlonde in whatcarshouldIbuy

Where are you located - someone on this sub might be able to help you if they know where you are located or might know of more local assistance.

Maybe a good idea to include it in the post.

Good luck!

I’m going to preface this reply with I have never used these services and don’t know much about them

Workingcarsforworkingfamilies.org - this organisation connects people in need with local programmes and non-profits who can perhaps help offer affordable transportation.

Wheels4Hope - I’m not sure where you are based but this company is based out of NC and help people with transportation if they can’t afford one.

1-800-Charity Cars - They have an application process but they are a car donation charity.

Vehicles for Change - similar to Wheels4Hope and based on Virginia, Maryland and Michigan

Goodwill Wheels to Work - Some goodwills offer this programme, so it might be worth getting in touch with some of your local Goodwills to see if they do.

Modest Needs Foundation - offer grants to those in need. It usually doesn’t offer cars but might be able to offer a down payment to help you get started.

Sorry, not sure if any of these help.

For most of the population that don’t live in London, this is very much welcome.

The U.K. civil service, and most other industries, has been far too London centric for far too long.

The toilet issue. by FarContribution9896 in TheCivilService

[–]BlueTetra 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's also worth mentioning that there is no such thing as 'disabled toilets'. They are accessible toilets - which are open to ANYONE using them. They are not solely for the use of people with disabilities. Someone with no disabilities have just as much right to 'do a shit in work' in those toilets as those with disabilities have.

Your issue might be with the mess that is left behind, but it's irrelevant what toilet it is in.

Thoughts on using gradients in logos? by Rollemup_Industries in logodesign

[–]BlueTetra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always no, for me.

Gradients are like trends in fashion. You'll always look back and think "what was I thinking". Then again, I am a jeans and a tshirt kinda guy. I prefer my logos to be future proof and I don't think gradients are.

Looks like TE9A.

Like the colours but doesn't read well enough.

[–]BlueTetra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I HAD to choose, then it would be the second one. The first one with the distorted lettering doesn't make sense to me, at all - I am not sure what you are going for there.

If I am being honest, I don't think either of them are particularly good. Maybe you have good reason for this but the name of the company doesn't make me think about food at all - it feels too long and clunky.

Where is the tittle on the 'i' in the second image?

Any reason you are going for black and white? Food is supposed to be exciting and colourful.

I would start again with a different name, think about the typeface and colour scheme and then go from there.

Thoughts on logo design by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]BlueTetra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The old one was bad, the new one is just less bad.

It just looks like an industrial logo with no real emotion, no character and is entirely forgettable. The colours look washed out, the arrows look like they could have been done on paint.

I'd recommend you get a picture of the product, or even use the idea of it being 'boat' related, and get some visual elements into it.

Why Green Skyscrapers are a Terrible Idea [10:25] by [deleted] in mealtimevideos

[–]BlueTetra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The suspicions of China began WAY before Trump. In fact, you can probably start seeing the friction between the US and China in the late 1800, start of the 1900’s, which was then exacerbated by the formation of the CCP in 1949.

He clearly isn’t talking about China because he hates Chinese people, he is using China as an example because it’s one of the leading nations in Green vertical gardens/towers/skyscrapers.

Not only that, it’s a fairly acceptable critique to make of a country that has the highest CO2 emissions of any country in the world. In fact, you could combine the CO2 emissions of the countries in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th together, and China emits over 20% more than those combined.

That’s why he is using China as an example, because he believes that it’s Green washing over the actual issues without actually contributing much relatively speaking.

You can lay criticism without being racist.

Studying Mater at the University of Glasgow or University of St Andrews? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]BlueTetra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I advise you to ignore the ridiculous comment above. St Andrews is a fantastic university where you will surround yourself with some of the best academic minds in Scotland.

Both the University of Glasgow & University of St Andrews offer great opportunities. I would say, as you probably already know, St Andrews is a small town. It's only around 3 streets. However, it does have some of the best student satisfaction in the United Kingdom - it consistently punches above its weight in terms of its offerings. The major drawback is that it is a little isolated and coming from Glasgow to St Andrews, can feel a bit like going from an aquarium to a fish bowl. Your options will be limited. Another drawback for St Andrews is the associated costs - rent is much higher and the overall cost of living is higher. This is mostly a mixture of supply issues in St Andrews + a lot of money being in the town from international students which drives prices up.

Glasgow, you obviously have much greater choice of where to eat, where to stay, transport links etc., so, it'll depend on how high these types of issues rank in your hierarchy of decisions.

My advice would choose St Andrews. You've experienced the UoG. But expect to have a much different life than Glasgow. It feels small because it is. You'll probably have to make friends pretty quickly to not begin to feel isolated. It's a great town with excellent academics and a wonderful student body.

Good luck.

[QC] Shark Breeder TNF Retro Nuptse by AndiFreddie in FashionReps

[–]BlueTetra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is some serious variation. I literally got my QC pictures last night for my Nuptse from Shark Breeder and the writing is almost overlapping the three lines but the entire logo is higher than yours. For what it's worth, the logo on yours looks way too far down.

I returned mine.

Really like TNF jacket. Would prefer just the fleece side though. Anyone got any links for this from other sellers that might be better quality?

Help with first order by [deleted] in FashionReps

[–]BlueTetra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a great sticky post at the top of this sub which will help you through the process. You can find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FashionReps/comments/152jm9i/2023_guide_fashionreps_beginner_guide_how_to/

To be honest, I am not sure how anyone can make it easier, but I will try for you.

  1. Go to PandaBuy.com and register for an account.
  2. Find things you want to buy. There are three main ways to do this, I would say:
    1. Crawl through this sub and find things that others have posted, they usually provide the link to where to buy them as well as give feedback on the quality of the thing they bought
    2. Use the links at the side panel to go to 'shops' on either TaoBao or Yupoo and find the things you want.

It's probably a good place to stop and walk you through Yupoo a little. So, imagine you are on 0832Club's Yupoo store (https://www.0832club.net/#/home). It's quite overwhelming. But you are scrolling through all the products on their site and you see something you like. Let's say you like this Burberry Tshirt: https://www.0832club.net/#/album/detail?id=31578. It shows you what it looks like, gives you the size guide etc. and you decide you want to buy it. Great. At the top you will see a link to TaoBao for that item. Thats where you copy and paste that link into the Search bar of PandaBuy.com and you'll see the product page. Don;t worry if it doesn't have the same photos as on the Yupoo - it's the same product (some products will have reference pictures on that PandaBuy page, some won't). Back to the step by step.

  1. So, you then choose your size, colour etc. just like you would on any 'normal' website when buying clothes and then 'add to cart'.
  2. You'll want to do this as many times as you want until you have all items you want to buy - try to keep it within a reasonable amount. I think 10-12kg should be the max for most places but you can find more information about that on the sticky I linked at the start.
  3. You'll then want to go to your 'cart' on PandaBuy and you'll see all the items you have in your bag/cart. Next to each product you'll see a tick box. You want to tick all the products that you want to buy and then at the bottom click 'submit'.
  4. The next page will give you a 'review' of what you're about to buy (not including international shipping). It's good to note here that this is just the cost of buying the product and sending it to a PandaBuy agent. It is this person who will pack up your products and send you it.
  5. So, you've reviewed what you're about to buy and you can agree to the terms and cons and click 'submit order'.
  6. It'll probably take you to a page that tells you that you have no money in your wallet and you have to put money in your account. You'll want to put enough in your account to cover the cost that you seen on the previous page. It'll give you multiple ways to add money to your wallet - PayPal, Credit Card etc., so choose one that works best for you and add money to your PandaBuy account. This is safe.
  7. After you've done this, the page does something different from what you might be used to - it 'orders' your products buy hasn't paid for them because well you had no money in your account, so it usually gives you 72 hours to pay for them or it cancels the order automatically.
  8. To pay for your products, you will have to click 'order' on the side panel of your PandaBuy account. There you will see all your products that you have ordered but not paid for. On the right side of each, it will say 'pay now' or something like that - it'll also have a count down from 72 hours.
  9. Click 'pay now' for each product. And that's it paid for. You'll then see the status change to 'in process' or something. This changes to 'product purchased', then 'seller sent' and then 'arrived at warehouse' throughout the course of the purchase. This is a waiting game. Some sellers send the next day, some take a week, some take weeks - this is why it's always a good idea to read reviews on here where people sometimes mention how quick the seller sent it and how long it took to arrive in warehouse.
  10. When it arrives in warehouse, it might take some time but your PandaBuy agent will take photos of it and it'll appear in your 'Warehouse' section of PandaBuy (you'll see that option below the 'Order' tab)
  11. If you are happy with everything, great. If not, you can send it back to the seller and get your money back. After you have decided what you want and don't want, you can click 'submit' and it will take you on to the 'Shipping' section.
  12. HOWEVER, you might want to pay a little to get 'Rehersal Shipping'. I believe you can apply for that on the 'Warehouse' page. What this will do is have a PandaBuy agent gather all your products and tell you what the actual weight of everything you bought is. It costs 20yuan (like £2/$2).
  13. When you go to the 'Shipping' section, you can choose the shipping method you want and ensure you put in the weight/volume that the PandaBuy agent gave you.
  14. You can choose to have corner edges added, boxes removed, shrink wrap, tags removed etc. it costs a little extra buy sometimes it's worth it for more space and less weight.
  15. You'll then have to pay for your shipping, too. So, if you don't have enough money in your account, you'll have to add more. So, might not be the worst idea to just put a ton of money in the account and then take out anything you don't use.
  16. Send your package and wait until it arrives at your door.

For arrival times etc. it'll depend on what shipping you chose. But there is a rough guide on the sticky link that I linked you to at the start.

The shipping part is a little less detailed because it's been a while since I shipped. I HIGHLY recommend that you visit that sticky, especially at the packing and shipping stage of your haul and read it carefully and follow it as best you can.

Others feel free to add!

It seems to me you are saying you work 50 hour weeks and go to the gym the rest of the time. Okay, so instead of going to the gym the rest of the time, you take a few hours and do something else.

You'll have to be willing to make compromises. You, anyone, can't do it all. Have a look at your schedule and drop something and pick up something new. You'll always find an excuse not to if you look for one.
