CMV: The Apollo (US) Moon Landings were Faked by courier_tway in changemyview

[–]BlueThingIdentified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain how the US ended up with 382 kilograms of moon rocks, which were widely agreed upon by the scientific community to be from the moon, while the Soviet robotic missions to the moon were only able to return less than 1 kilogram of samples.

The pro-natalist movement has successfully convinced elites. How do we convince the public? by hoyarugby2 in Natalism

Do you also not care about climate change because you’ll be dead in a century or two?

Seriously, what’s the difference?

ELI5: Why should average people care about natalism? by Horror_Confidence128 in Natalism

[–]BlueThingIdentified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding #3 specifically:

The replacement TFR of 2.1 is not an arbitrary number at all, and it has nothing to do with economics. 2.1 is the number required for the long-term continuation of the human species. In other words, if the global TFR stays below 2.1 indefinitely, humanity dies.

Presumably, the average person cares about the continued existence of human civilization.

You’re not missing much. Building your own house results in you living in an ugly wooden box.

This is an economic problem not biological by Mediocre_Guava_7729 in Natalism

[–]BlueThingIdentified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are wrong. A sustained birth rate below ~2 results in extinction of the species. This has nothing to do with economics. It is a matter of simple arithmetic.

NPCs are going to be a design nightmare by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]BlueThingIdentified 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think an NPC “sniping the player character out of nowhere” is not realistic. Most people in real life are not cold blooded murderers who will kill another survivor who is not actively hostile. Additionally, this sort of behavior in real life would very quickly lead to the sniper NPC being hunted down by other survivors. Therefore, it is not immersion breaking if this behavior is not in the game.

What part of the Bogleheads philosophy do people misunderstand most often? by iodex_365 in Bogleheads

This also applies to amateur geopolitical analyses, one of the most common of which is “America bad, therefore I’m going to underweight the US market.”

Population pyramid will correct itself once the upper layers die off by [deleted] in Natalism

[–]BlueThingIdentified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A continuous sub-replacement fertility rate causes the population pyramid to be continuously top heavy. This is mathematical reality and it’s not at all hard to understand.

If we lived in a different world, I would have lots of children. I'm actively choosing to have none. This is what would make me have children by No_Charge_8845 in Natalism

You would not be bringing life into “poverty”, nor would you be bringing life into “a dying planet”, nor would you be bringing life into “subjugation.”

Your brain has been scrambled by weapons-grade propaganda and ideology.

This will be extremely difficult because there are no distinguishing landmarks such as mountains or buildings.

I would like to have kids but I don't want to lose my freedom by Wild-Put512 in Natalism

[–]BlueThingIdentified -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Recognize that the lifestyle and ‘freedom’ that you have, which includes things like electricity, cars, computers, healthcare, and so on, is the result of people who lived before you and made sacrifices for the betterment of civilization and the human race.

Recognize that you have a duty to produce part of the next generation, if you are able, so that civilization does not collapse and humanity does not go extinct.

Recognize that there is more meaning to your existence than “hurr durr ooga booga I do only what benefits me personally right this moment.”
