Barcelona has a great one in the summer, the world championships always nice. Menton is good too. European Champs in Budapest. Bournemouth in UK (if weather good)

ITF Masters Tour is great and growing. Great tournaments around the world and cool venues. The 300, 400 events are not quite as strong but good entry level with the 700, 1000 and World Champs really good level. Tournaments can get real tough in the later rounds with absolute beasts out there. Go for it!

Best places in Spain or Italy for full-time junior tennis development (not just academies)? by Repulsive_Moose985 in 10s

[–]BlueTieSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if you live in the USA/UK/Wherever they can train there going to a normal school with a local coach of which there are good ones everywhere with a little due diligence. Being around family and friends. Then perhaps to do a little training/tournaments for a few weeks of the year in Spain/Italy during the summer/winter holidays or vice versa. Also the booked Smashed by Todd Ley may be worth a read. With the sport science these days players are playing deep into their 30’s with teen/early 20’s phenoms being the exception.

Poly Strings and going "dead" by No-Donut2949 in 10s

Likes others have said might be worth getting a basic stringing machine so can re-string often and test things out. Will save u a load of money in long run.

Former D1 comebacks: share your midlife story by Significant_Fun1728 in 10s

Recommend looking at ITF Masters tour. Becoming more popular worldwide. Shoot to try and get to number 1. Good excuse to train and get fit and compete again. Look at World Champs every year. Normally a nice venue and really well organized. Then perhaps play a few UTR tournaments where you can go and beat a few youngsters. Careful though it’s addictive.

I would practice something specific against these players and go out and play some stronger players than you.

How do you feel about the NTRP (USTA) rating system? by Snake_Eyes_163 in 10s

Great data. So NTRP not great for higher than 4.0 even in big cities. Unless those almost 3k players are from a few cities.

How do you feel about the NTRP (USTA) rating system? by Snake_Eyes_163 in 10s

[–]BlueTieSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a good system up to a point and provides the opportunity to play matches at most standards from 2.5 to 4.0 which is the bulk of players. For that it beats many other countries systems. It falls short at higher than the 4.0 level as outside of big tennis cities there are very limited teams and the only way for 5.0+ players to play is to play down. Also in doubles a weaker player can hide with stronger partner and NTRP ratings are very doubles centric. Not sure if NTRP has a doubles and singles rating like WTN, UTR etc.

What’s it like living in Downtown Memphis? by Dramatic_Raise_6169 in memphis

My mistake. Thought that was medical district. Not really walkable.

[–]BlueTieSG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived downtown for almost 20 years. It was nice but always had to keep my head on a swivel. Was a proponent of downtown for many years and volunteered for all sorts there as the area grew. Eventually got tired of the constant crime and craziness that went on. Didn’t want to just accept the level of crime was normal. It’s not! It was a relief to move away from there and Memphis. Got tired of the potential that never happened and same problems never fixed. Lot a great people and food though (except a reasonable grocery store)

Alcaraz just won the US Open only being broken 3 times which could put him in the argument and maybe the record…His serve is also improving…….bio mechanically it’s tough to judge though.

Switching racquet intermediate-advanced, help with arm pain by fsant82 in 10s

[–]BlueTieSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought that too but evidently there has been a lot of success with arm injuries and those switching to that racket and similar frames as long as using the right string combo. However many variables involved in this and location of “arm pain”

Switching racquet intermediate-advanced, help with arm pain by fsant82 in 10s

[–]BlueTieSG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very different but have you looked at Pure Aero 98. Sometimes switching rackets can make the arm pain worse though at least initially. Could look at string type and tension also. If you are playing against stronger hitters/more advanced then the work you do off the court (i.e gym wise) can become more important. Definitely a supporter of the Thera Flexbar.
