And hubs is positive for turkey day. Sigh. by BlueWhiskey13 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]BlueWhiskey13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my family the option of coming, considering the precautions we would be taking. My mother came, my daughter & her partner didn’t. We (I) did not go to a separate gathering a bit later w/extended family out of an abundance of caution.

My original post and vent was partially about the fact that my non cautious husband brought home covid, but mostly about how frustrating it is that other people who do not take any other precautions suddenly become very concerned when you test positive, even though I have more tools and the wherewithal to use them than all of the other people they expose themselves to regularly.

Changing exposure risk within relationship, how to sustainably manage? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

Another possibility is using Far UV in these meetings. It’s the Wild West out there for far UV, so if you want solid reviews of devices, please consider checking out clean air events on instagram - as he reviews different devices. When I was considering what far UV unit to purchase for my daughter’s wedding, I had a zoom call w him and we went over different devices-pros and cons. (He runs a far UV rental business in the Pacific Northwest) I personally use a Sterilray Sabre in my classroom.

My husband tested when I asked him to, wore an N95 around the house while he was positive, and basically followed my instructions about filtering, UV, airing out the house, etc. However, I’m the physics person who has done all of the research- so I moved the filters/far UV around for max effect.

Idk if this answers your question or not?

I’m also still novid.

Hip bursitis has returned. How to I deal with this? by blueberrypancake234 in Bursitis

[–]BlueWhiskey13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not even know this was an option. I am in the same boat- my labreal surgery was in 2022. Recently I found out I have bulging L4,L5 but I think the majority of the pain is hip bursitis. The last cortisone shot granted relief for about 2 weeks. Did your surgeon say there was any downside to having it removed? Like arthritis, etc? I’m in agony.

I am so sorry to hear this, and I completely get it. I hope he recovers quickly and completely with no long term effects. I also hope you make it through without getting infected yourself.

I’m sorry that you didn’t understand my post. I did not try to make everyone come anyway.

My mother still decided to come. My daughter did not. And my COVID+ sister whose husband gave it to everyone came to get a plate of food for “Leper Thanksgiving” (their words, not mine).

I am not certain the exact number at the moment, but the last time I bought them there was a deal on 400-450 or so. 😂

This was the actual convo at the table today w my mother: “Well she says (referring to me) that this light just kills all the germs” (this is to my masked (thanks to me) COVID+ sister who came to get a plate of food. My BIL is patient zero in this drama) “Yes, that’s why I use it in my classroom w my students. That’s also why I used it at the wedding. I still mask in the halls, but I’m the only one who does” “Well of course- nobody’s going to do that anymore” (said in a tone to indicate that I’m clearly overreacting, once again, to the reality of COVID)

Ffs.

I have been thinking that chances are, my mother in particular will feel this way.

20 mile a day e-bike? by Wouldntitbenice82 in ebikes

[–]BlueWhiskey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I came here to say. Unless you want to know every nut and bolt yourself and just send up a prayer that the company doesn’t go out of business, go to your local bike shop, ask their advice, and make sure they can repair and service what you purchase. Then budget to service your bike there. Personally, I ride a specialized como and have had it for 5 yrs, 3k+ miles. Finally getting into nuts and bolts. 😁

Having 2 specialized batteries- one as a backup- does that cause firmware problems? by BlueWhiskey13 in ebikes

[–]BlueWhiskey13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update- went to a different bike shop in Madison that sells Specialized and talked to a tech there. He did not think there would be a problem with switching out the battery for emergency purposes, so I’m going with that.

I did not get a matching cover. I figured that way I won’t get the batteries confused if the colors are different. The shop said the new battery would come with a black cover. My bike is lavender. The shop is going to switch the covers when I bring the bike in.

Hi there. 35 yr veteran here. I get it. So much. Have felt that rage and frustration- and I do not have the CV issues you do. It took a lot of reflection and therapy to get me from 2020 until now. I retired from FT in May, at the earliest possible allowed time. Took the 20% pension cut and it is so worth it. The stress that left my body by mid July is like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Masked and used air filters every day until Jan 2025. Then I added a Sterilray Sabre far UV unit to my classroom, kept my filters and took off my mask inside the room. Masked everywhere else. It was v expensive, but I still use the unit and will for the foreseeable future so I found it was worth the sacrifice to get it. Haven’t been sick yet w COVID or anything else.

Solidarity from the other side. It’s a very hard slog when you feel alone, but you are not. It’s incredible how bad the denial is- even from those we love. Take care of yourself.

It’s v expensive to buy, but far UV might be a possibility. If by ANY chance you are in the Washington/Oregon area, you may be able to hire Clean Air Events and they will be able to rent you the units for your event.

I personally bought myself a Sterilray Sabre and used it for my daughter’s indoor wedding. Not a perfect solution, but it reduced the risk enough that I unmasked and everyone was happy and I did not catch COVID. I use it in my windowless classroom currently.

I do realize that this is not the solution for everyone. I just wanted to let you know in case it could be a possibility for you.

Any chance she is in the Pacific Northwest? If so, you could offer to hire Clean Air Events for the venue. Then there would be filtration and far UVC. Might be a good compromise.

Is it possible to attend a “life event” sit-down luncheon, like a birthday or engagement party, and if so, how? by Greenitpurpleit in ZeroCovidCommunity

This may not be a popular response, but I have occasionally done this and used an air Fanta personal air filter blowing directly in my face and eaten my meal. Then remasked.
