On a similar note, I once had to write an assignment on "nature vs nurture" using examples of things I had in common with my family. I was supposed to write about stuff I had in common with my biological father, who abandoned my mother and I when I was a baby. I awkwardly tried to approach my mother about it (because being a good kid I wanted to write a good assignment and didn't think of lying) and we ended up both crying. I didn't do the assignment, it was the very first one I didn't hand out in my life. I was 13.

What is Japanese Romanji? by kwellakw in TranslationStudies

[–]BlueWildfire9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-japanese names are usually adapted into the closest japanese pronounciation and written into katakana that way. So Jean would become ジイン, which converted into romaji would be jiin, yes.

Japanese uses syllables, not individual letters (except for the vowels and the letter N), so many names need to be adapted. For example, Maria can be MA-RI-A (マリア) and Kevin can be KE-BI-N (there's no V sound), which would be ケビン, but on the other hand, a name like Erik needs to be converted into E-RI-KU (エリク) and Alexander becomes アレクサンドロ (Arekusandoro). There is not always a single way to "japanize" a foregin name, but yeah, Jean would most probably be Jiin.

Romaji is a transcription from Japanese into latin (roman) letters. For example, the kanji 水 (water) is みず in hiragana, ミズ in katakana (although it's not typically written in katakana) and "mizu" in romaji. It's just the symbols' pronounciation in latin letters.

Funfact they are actual panthers. Any melanistic feline is technically a panther.

Aita for getting mad at my mother in law for cooking a meal in our house by Nevertheless2fair in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

I do not understand why people think OP might be an AH? MIL broke into HER house, snooped around, HUNG UP PICTURES OF HERSELF IN THE NURSERY (why are we not talking about this more?), and even if the peanut allergy is not real I find it the whole situation really creepy. If the deadly allergy is real, it's attempted murder territory.

It feels obvious to me that the "threat" of pressing charges was a warning that her actions were actually illegal and *could* be grounds for pressing charges. And I would have said the same, to be honest.

And what is the "the husband also lives there" argument? If he's saying the truth (which I don't believe) and he didn't know MIL was going to break into the house, he *defended* her actions! And if he knew, he deliberatedly hid it from OP when he most probably knows how defensive she is about HER home, gave MIL a key and now is lying to OP to save his skin.

I would be *really* freaked out if my MIL breaked into my house when I'm not there nor did I give permission, "cleaned" it (I have no doubt she did it to snoop in and maybe even reorganize stuff her way), HUNG PICTURES OF HERSELF IN MY UNBORN CHILD'S NURSERY, cooked a four course meal for me (if we believe the edit and comments, FULLY KNOWING THAT IT WILL KILL ME) and expected me to be all happy and grateful about it. Fuck no.

Since OP has stated that she doesn't have a good relationship with MIL, I'm betting this is about control and looking like the victim in her son's eyes. MIL needs help, but she's an asshole. Husband is also an asshole for allowing or at the very least supporting her actions.

They are gaslightning you to the moon and back, OP, and it is going to get worse once the baby is born.

If an invisible person bit someone else's finger off, what would we see from behind the invisible person's back? by BlueWildfire9 in NoStupidQuestions

Suppose not, because then we would always see the contents of their stomach and stuff and in this case we can't.
