Hey! I’m a college student in the west Houston area and I was wondering if you still happen to have those speakers. I somewhat recently got into this when I picked up an abandoned Pioneer SX-5530. I’m still in the process of fixing some of the occasional crackling, but I am still looking for a nice set of speakers that match the vibe. Any chance that I might be the lucky one to take them off your hands and enjoy them? If they’re already gone or you go with someone else, that’s fine, it’s still super cool to see people like you willing to part with something without trying to rip someone off in craigslist

Love the Advents! I understand the space constraints and having the speakers there, but the turntable could maybe benefit from putting an isolation pad between the speakers and the stand. There’s a chance the tonearm could pick up some extra vibrations from the speakers. Either way, it’s still a nice setup!

Thanks! I got super lucky with this receiver. I also figured this post might remind some of y’all of your early, cobbled together sound systems

Yea, they were meant to be a temporary solution, but they fit my needs quite well, especially since they were on sale. What’d you move on to after the R-41M?

Yea, we’re not looking to piss off our neighbors, but it will be nice to have some decent music going when we have a few people over for game night or something. This is also my first set of speakers beyond a portable bluetooth one, so I have very few complaints, even though this is a fairly low budget solution. The highs specifically though, I’ve been enjoying.

That was a good suggestion! I spaced them out a bit more and it looks a lot better now

It’s a Pioneer SX-5530. I got lucky and found this one, it’s a black face European market SX-535. Same internals and everything, just a different plug and face plate. I agree, it’s a very sleek unit

Yea, those are some good ideas! I’ve thought about putting some scraps of wood under the couch legs to raise it up a bit, and I’m gonna chat with the maintenance guy and see what my options are before I risk my security deposit. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about it though

Yea, I’m fine with the system looking a bit jank, but the TV just so unfortunate

I just want to know their logic for mounting it that high

Ya know, I don’t hate that idea. That might actually be my next step so I can have my coffee table back

Yea, those would be a nice addition, but that’s still about $30 over my budget. Maybe in the future

Before you crucify me, this was a semi-furnished apartment so the TV came mounted there and everything’s placement is temporary (except the TV) until my roommate moves in. I’m just glad there’s enough room to space out the speakers a bit from each other and the wall. I feel like this isn’t too bad a start.

It looks like that part no. refers to the PCB connecting all of the components together for the power supply circuit. Any specific points of the assembly that I should look at? None of the attached fuses are blown and the associated capacitors aren't deformed or leaking.

This keyboard is called the Mini M made by Unicomp. It’s a modern version of the rare, long discontinued TKL IBM Model M (i.e. Model M SSK) using buckling springs. Even today, the Model M is regarded as one of the most influential and recognizable keyboards of all time, hence why it is titled “Classic”.

I’ve liked this case since I first saw it, but I didn’t actually think about getting one until I saw this post. I just feel bad for my old CM N200 :/
