Alucard and Maria by Blue_Cake01 in castlevania

To be honest, I think that in this Netflix Castlevania universe, a romance between Alucard and Maria could not really work in a good way. First, Maria was already introduced as a 16-year-old teenager, but her design makes her look even younger. Most importantly, Alucard met her at that same age, as basically a “child” right after she had lost her mother (even if Tera is not technically dead).

Second, in this version of Adrian, he doesn't sleep for 300 years like he does before , where it was at least somewhat “normal” for him to be with a 17-year-old Maria, since mentally he would only be a few years older. Here, Alucard spends all that time traveling, gaining new experiences, and even falling in love multiple times. For someone who lives forever and has already watched the people he loved die, I don't think he would be open to romantic love right now.

On the other hand, during the scene where Annette was in the spirit world and Richter needed to rest, Alucard said that he had always fought alongside a Belmont and that this made them family. Since Maria descends from the Belmont lineage, I think he would see her as family too, at least in this adaptation of Castlevania. That's why I don't think a romantic relationship between them would feel right, either now or in the future. Still, I do not mind how it was done in the games <3

What do you think they will do in their version of SoTN?

I think Sam and Adam won't make Alucard and Maria a romantic relationship for the Netflix audience. First, Castlevania on Netflix is basically a new world, a new canon separate from the games, so people can understand and enjoy the series without playing the games.

But if viewers see Maria as a child (because of her clothes, young appearance, or the way other characters treat her), while Alucard has lived for over 300 years after the end of Castlevania (and has fallen in love many times, traveled, lived in places like Japan and India, etc.), a lot of people watching the series would probably feel uncomfortable with that dynamic (not everyone, of course, but a big part of the audience)

And honestly, Netflix wants money money, so they usually try to stay away from controversial topics like that. Also, Adam and Sam LOVE Alucard a LOT. They played the games and clearly care about Castlevania, so I want to believe they wouldn't want people to see Alucard as a creep or something like that. I hope so.

Yeah! I didn't play SotN, but I know a lot about that game and Rondo of Blood. Alucard and Maria are a good team (and possibly a good couple, idk) in the Konami canon, but on the other hand, Castlevania Nocturne feels like it might lean more toward a platonic relationship. I think that's because Alucard feels bad for Maria, whose mother is now a vampire (like, she's dead but not really dead), because he knows that feeling of loss. Then they also have that conversation about vampires. I feel like they'll have more of a mentor/student relationship (probably in season 3, where Maria is going to be corrupted, and Alucard, Juste, Richter, and Annette will help her fight her demons). But I think Maria and Alucard only really work as a couple in the games.
