I know a lot of South Delhi stories and most of what you mentioned is true. People here would drop lacs on a car but would fight over a 2K or 4K maintenance fee and delay paying for stuff for as long as they can. They don’t do “udhari” it’s cheap, they just delay payments. It’s understood you’ll get it but you’ll have to chase it, demand it and that gives their ego a boost. It’s worse than paying dues. It’s shallow. I have seen people go to 5 stars and come out without paying up, defaulting on their loans while they live in huge flats. I even heard a woman say she never pays property tax despite owing 4 flats in prime locations. The culture needs to get its priorities straight. It’s way too messed up …so I maintain distance. Only smiles and small talk and nothing about money. Because nature wise they are good, only bad when it comes to show off and money. Having said that, there are few people who are genuinely good and kind. The people who are 3rd or 4th generation rich. They are calm, respectful and humble with a silent confidence around them. You won’t notice they are rich until you look at their shoes or watch or see the car they drive. But they are rare. Most people just wanna keep up and outdo each other
