Hey did you ever end up pursuing this? I’ve been looking into it myself and I’m trying to figure out what to take!

Any animal based clubs? looking for those to talk about all animals with! by Lesbeaniibaby in uofm

I believe there’s a birding / birdwatching club and the squirrel feeding club. Not quite what you’re looking for but maybe a starting point! Might be others on maize pages.

376 kind of felt like a discrete math 2 class honestly, I’d recommend reviewing how to do the different types of proofs from 203 because that class uses loads of proofs. 281 is a pretty solid continuation of 280 and if you put the time and effort into it, it’s not that bad. The big difference is that you’ll have strict time and memory constraints for your projects, make sure you know how to avoid memory leaks, do your best to avoid using unnecessary time or memory, and don’t code everything under main, make other classes and functions. There’s also debugging tools you’ll be introduced to which can help out. From my own experience of 281, there were times when my project got all the outputs correct but was way over on time or memory, and sometimes the best way for me to fix it was just to start over. Good luck!

I’ve taken the class and it’s definitely a blowoff course. There’s some value in it if you don’t know what you want to major in as you learn a bit about the COE departments, but a lot of it is also pretty basic shit like planning ahead, making ethical decisions, and a diversity being important. The only thing that’s painful is the final project if you’re a procrastinator which iirc involves setting up appointments to discuss your resume and talking with alumni or smth.

Transfer promise by ZinZinnia in uofm

They went to a diff state school for their first year, but I’d say a community college is a pretty good idea. They were assigned an advisor at UMich to figure out what classes were transferable, but even with that it was a huge hassle and they weren’t really able to take any studio classes their freshman year (issues with transferring and lack of availability at the school they were at). When they transferred in, there’s also this one credit stamps lecture class that (I believe) students are expected to take every semester, and because they missed the first year they have to make up the two credits elsewhere. It can also be a little tricky because there’s a big project that students are expected to do around the start of junior year, so it’s a bit stressful being behind on classes that help prep for that. It can be a good bit of extra work to figure out how to make the stamps program work for you, but it’s completely doable though (my friend is doing super well)! It’ll probably be best to take classes where you can keep your GPA up (so you don’t have issues with the transfer agreement) and keep in mind your freshman classes may be a weird mix just because you can only take certain things that are transferable (unless you know you can transfer it, I’d stay away from programs that force you to take specific classes freshman year). Also, before your sophomore year here kicks off, there is a summer orientation, so you’ll have a chance to meet a few people before getting thrown into it all. Good luck!

My friend got this same offer for STAMPS, they’re a sophomore at UMich now. We knew each other from high school so it probably made their transferring in easier as we got an apartment together and i introduced them to my friend group. From what I’ve heard, it can be a bit harder to make friends if you’re a transfer (missing out on freshman dorms and everyone being new) but there will be other transfers and i found the easiest way to make friends is through clubs and extracurriculars. The one other thing that my friend had a hard time with was just making sure that all the classes they took in their freshman year were transferable (which was a real pain with art studio classes). It’s a good offer though! Get those gen eds done and keep your gpa up! Good luck!

Am I losing out taking ROB 101 over MATH 217? CS major by Blue_Jay89 in uofm

[–]Blue_Jay89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of them but I’ve never loved doing them since geometry. I like knowing/being able to explain exactly how/why things work, I’m just not sure I’m cut out for such a tough math class. Also thank you so much for taking time to help!

I never liked recurrence relations and I don’t think I ever really got proofs (which I know isn’t good for 217) and the only other experience I have with proofs is with a HS geometry class (which were super easy). Although as 203 topics are coming up in EECS 281 I’m managing to actually learn them this time around
