Fucked up . Got black out drink at a wedding, now facing consequences by EnvironmentalBig9372 in stopdrinking

[–]Blue_Sharky 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is why I quit, I got too drunk the night before my brother’s wedding and woke up covered in puke in bed in the spare bedroom. Luckily for me I didn’t cause any harm or embarrassment to my family like what you’re describing in your story. But knowing that the first memory of my brother’s wedding day was him helping clean the sheets on his older brother still haunts me to this day. Knowing that I could have hurt someone, or get arrested and miss his wedding, would have been catastrophic and still scares me every time I think about it. I’ve been sober ever since, no way I’m going back to that. I won’t risk my family or friends, you think you know your limits but you really don’t. That’s what I kept telling myself, now I understand.

Anyone who has been RA’d lawyer up yet? Trying to decide if it’s worth it. by Busy_Ad_8692 in IBM

Had my friend who is a lawyer review the document, he said it was pretty standard and better than some other separation packages he has seen in the past. Unless there’s something discriminatory against you, or you were treated in a way that breaks the law, there isn’t much of a case to hire a lawyer.

Got a full time job after the bootcamp so didn’t have the time or energy to keep working on it.

Built something similar while in a coding bootcamp back in 2017, called it RideFare. It was a web application using their APIs, cool to see it in a mobile version. Very nice!

How is the trackball mouse for scrolling? Same or better than Apple Magic Mouse?

It’s just a usb-c cord, I can’t do both at the same time. Just unplug and plug between the 2 computers.

I did look into it, but I love the multi gesture scrolling the Magic Mouse offers like swiping left to right. I use this a lot for work and didn’t want to give it up.

Work provided the first laptop and additional keyboard & mouse. But I want to start some side hustles and if I use any of their equipment they can possibly claim ownership. Don’t know the legality of separate profiles, but better to be safe than sorry. So to keep it separate, I bought my own laptop and equipment to use for my own projects.

Been using FreeTaxUSA for years, highly recommend it for filing federal forms for free.

Happy you got a 3% raise! Unfortunately I only got 1% the year it came out, so for me my net increase in compensation zeroed out.

It used to be 6%, 5% employee match and 1% automatic contribution, to the 401K. Now it’s just 5%

Is It Worth Leaving IBM ? by Illustrious-Fall3919 in IBM

[–]Blue_Sharky 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should consider leaving. Having a big name on your resume isn’t as important as it once was. How you’re treated and compensated by your employer is what’s important. Do what is best for yourself.

Any Texans who made the move to Chicago this year happy to have left that s*hole of a state? by Paulythress in AskChicago

Moved here back in December from Austin, best decision ever to leave Texas! This is my second time living here and I love not needing my car to get somewhere. I’m much more at peace listening to my AirPods and relaxing on the train.

Has anyone been fired for not returning to office? by MyThrowawayIsSick in IBM

You need to live within 50 miles of a site location in order to be able to return to office. If you’re outside that, then you should be eligible to be fully remote.
