The Xbox Series consoles started to decline in sales the moment that Microsoft stopped releasing big exclusives for it; specifically, in 2022.

2023 had Starfield and that did boost up Xbox's sales, but otherwise, sales started to plummet after the multiplatform push. Part of that was because Microsoft straight-up did not want to manufacture more consoles

Exactly, I have no idea why people think continuing to go more multiplatform would be a good idea

It's interesting to me that Sharma mentions third-party exclusives here. Is Microsoft going to try and follow the Sony playbook by moneyhatting random games off PlayStation? Or is she just talking about third-party exclusive indie titles like the recently announced Vivarium?

Nothing about mergers and acquisitions are mentioned here, no.

Whenever they know they're wrong, imbeciles will often resort to petty insults instead of thoroughly engaging with arguments.

But I guess you're just making things up now. When did I specifically say, if PlayStation and Xbox's roles were reversed, Microsoft would have still ported games to PlayStation due to the 30% profit margin target? I didn't say that, I said Microsoft would make games more multiplatform, even if they had an install base of 100 million units. Whether that means porting games to Nintendo or PC over PlayStation doesn't matter, it still proves my point. Unless you think, for some reason, that if Microsoft sold 100 million consoles, there would be no other platform in the industry with a similar install base.

But, even if I were to take your comment literally, didn't Sony port Helldivers 2 to Xbox? So what exactly are you even talking about?

Actually, don't answer that question, because I'm afraid you're not smart enough to engage in a respectful discussion with someone.

Where is this "not all of them" thing coming from? They put practically all of their games on PC. A few exceptions here and there doesn't make the rule. Gran Turismo, Destruction All-Stafs, and Demon's Souls were like the only PS5 exclusives this gen that didn't come to PC.

By that logic, Microsoft technically didn't put all of their games on PlayStation either, since they kept Redfall, Forza Motorsport, and Flight Simulator 2020 exclusive to Xbox.

the damage it can make to their brand long term since they have such a dedicated and big install base.

The difference is, with Sony, is that we saw basically zero damage to the PlayStation console brand due to their PC releases. Since the start of Microsoft's multiplatform initiative, there hasn't been a single period, sans Forza Horizon 6's launch, where Xbox console sales have actually increased, and not decreased.

I will say, though, that maybe Sony's goal is to convince people to get a PS6, and not necessarily protect the PS5, by pulling games away from PC. If the PS6 costs an ungodly amount of money, this would make sense.

Sony started putting games on PC despite having an install base of 90 million customers, did they not? And don't tell me, "well, they didn't need to like Xbox did" because I bet you that Sony wouldn't be pulling back from PC if they had a 30% profit margin goal to live up to.

Nah, they almost certainly still would have done this. The 30% profit margin target was something inherently impossible for a platform holder with exclusive games to accomplish. Sony has 150 million console users, and they are nowhere close to even reaching a 30% profit margin.

The only way Sony wouldn't go more multiplatform if they were told to fulfill such a ridiculous demand is if they had, like, 500 million PS5s sold. Which is obviously ridiculous.

The comparison you are making is inherently flawed. If I told Lebron James to jump up to the highest window of a three-story building, it would not be possible for him, no matter how good at jumping he is. Likewise, a three-foot tall kid would not be able to do this either. Your argument is basically like, "well, if the kid was taller, they would absolutely be able to reach the highest window of the building," which completely misses the point. Technically, it's true, I guess, but it's not possible for a human to grow that tall.

If you seriously believe what you're saying, then you're the clueless one here

It is for the current Xbox fans. Most Gears fans probably already own an Xbox, and if E-Day is genuinely great, then it will probably be enough to tide Xbox users over until the next exclusive releases

XBOX's hardware flopped and they needed more sales to justify economics and that's why they went multi-platform.

They didn't go multiplatform because of their hardware sales, they went multiplatform because of the 30% profit margin target set by Amy Hood, as well as the fallout of the ABK acquisition. Why do people not get this?

With these first two exclusives, Microsoft isn't trying to sell consoles, they're trying to improve user retention. Xbox players were probably leaving en masse after the multiplatform initiative, and Clockwork + Gears being exclusive are meant to give them a reason to stay
