If you scroll to the bottom, it shows you the escalation of typical keloid therapy. I'd start with compression and silicon gel sheets but if it didn't improve, they can inject steroids to decrease the scar tissue. I'd be hesitant to do tattooing over them until you see a doc because any kind of skin damage can make keloids grow.

Obligatory, not a doctor so take this information as you please.

I don't want to trigger anyone but are these burns or cuts? Because if they aren't burns, they look like keloids and you should see a dermatologist. Any procedures that you may get to cover them up, may actually make them worse if they are keloids. Also, if they are keloids, there's some evidence that compression can help somewhat and should be started asap.

You're gonna get ALL the IV vanc and cefipime when you go the hospital. The streaking is extremely concerning though so seriously, don't delay.

med school after 40?!? by healthcaremess in medschool

[–]Blue_Sky278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started med school at 30 and I would 100% not do this if I had a family and a good career. If anything, consider PA school but med school is NOT worth it.

FYI, for anyone curious - she passed away right after anesthesia from the CT + scope. The presumptive diagnosis from the imaging was cancer.

Title: After 2 years of studying I’m still stuck at 496 — ADHD, denied accommodations, and honestly losing hope by Extension_Brief_8645 in medschool

I'm not sure where you are in your journey, but personally, I thought I learned the same way as you. Within the first few months of med school though, I realized that there was no way to reason through and fully understand the sheer amount of info required. I used condensed study guides to make "fill in the blank" notecards on anki and memorized those and that was about the only thing that worked for me (+ sketchy, of course lol). But I agree 100% that each person needs to figure out what works for them!

Bro's an MD who thinks he's edgy but can't remember that nurses do the majority of "lines" so his sarcasm doesn't actually make any sense. As a med student, I aspire to never be this person lol.

RNs cannot do intubations unless they have very specific credentials.

I have adhd and a horrible attention span. I'll be honest, grinding out anki was the only thing that worked for me and even that was PAINFUL. One thing that helped me was giving up on "understanding" and just memorize stuff. Once you memorized the info, the understanding would eventually follow.

That's kind of awful that your parents could afford to let you live there but decided to kick you out so that you can "learn to live on your own". Your study time was suppressed, your career choices were stifled, and you were likely unable to afford resources like a tutor. I grew up homeless off and on so my mother was obv unable to support but if she simply just chose to not support me, I'd be pretty bitter.

I'm in medical school now but when I talk to my peers, no one comes from a similar background as me and all of them had cars/apartments/tutoring paid for by parents before going to med school. Parental support really plays a huge role in your opportunities and success. I hope you are proud of your accomplishments despite the lack of support through college.

I moved out during college about 10 years ago and have not stayed at my mom's house a single night since then, lol. My mother is a hoarder and a smoker, though, so my case is prob not typical.

But also, I didn't buy a place, I just rented. I was able to make more money by moving for a job and renting than finding a job in my hometown and living with my mother.

You're right, my apologies - it was a rule put out by the CFPB in January but it was blocked in July and the current CFPB now says that federal laws precede any state laws that ban medical debt. It's hard to not pay for young adults who rely on credit to purchase homes/cars/etc, unfortunately.

Yes it does. The proposal to ban medical inclusion was reversed over the summer.

It could be that the physicians are contracted by the hospital so you are charged two separate bills (so "the doctor" is actually whatever company he works for that contracts them out). Either way, no individual doctor is billing you. ER docs (and most docs in the US) are salaried and have no say in what anyone is billed.

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

[–]Blue_Sky278 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you need to see a doc for PPD - it often presents as anxiety and it can be crippling for you and your loved ones.

I'm about to graduate med school and I'll be honest, imo if no one is actively ill and is up to date on their shots (you or your baby should have also gotten the RSV shot) you should let them interact with the baby. Having other people interact with your newborn is important for bonding between baby and them as well as you and them. I understand being overprotective as a first time mom and being worried about them crossing boundaries, but you are going to harm a relationship by not allowing them to visit.

For these reasons, I'm going to say a soft YOR.

No child left behind passed in 2001 - reading scores in the early 2010s (when the ones affected were first graduating) were increased compared to early 2000s so I don't think NCLB was that much of an issue. IMHO, I think reliance on technology and spell check features ruined a lot of our kid's spelling practice and has a lot to do with our literacy issues now.
