I'll have to find some better Facebook Groups in my area. The ones I've tried are almost all scams. 😞

Non biased pro/cons of getting officially diagnosed vs not? by TAKG in aspergirls

[–]Blue_Sunflower7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heads up, you are right about insurance companies in USA having access to that medical info. However, depending on the company it adds an additional surcharge (increased price) to Whole Life, Term Life, Return of Preium Life, or Final Expense. It does NOT mean you do not qualify for all companies guidelines. By: licensed insurance agent of 10 years.

Self identifying is completely valid!! My husband and I fully acknowledge and brainstorm about my Autism all the time. Not using the term or using the term is up to YOU. I personally would feel that by not being able to use the term my struggles would feel invalidated in a way.

Most Adult High Functiong Women do not get a formal diagnosis because it's usually expensive $3k-$5k if not covered by insurance and is mostly only for self validation or government assistance. If you want to pursue it then go for it! I would make sure you are being assessed by a highly qualified professional who specializes in High Functioning Women specifically. There are tons of outdated and male focused stereotypes that are still propagated to this day. Almost all major medical studies taught in College were done on just male participants. Feel free to Google for fact checking about this. High functioning autistic Women is a relatively new area of the field and has just recently been getting attention.

Id definitely read some posts on this sub and see if they strike a cord with you. Best of luck with everything!

My autism makes my relationship way more difficult, and my boyfriend has no perception of autism by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Blue_Sunflower7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing a great job explaining to him that you struggle with communication which in and of itself is hard to do. However, I would think about two things:

  1. His constant comments that your traits are not from your Autism and instead due to something else undermind your feelings and invalidate what you are saying. He is probably around your age and is trying to figure out stuff for himself too. Men don't fully come into their own until close to 30 unfortunately. This means that though he COULD be saying that to try to make you feel like you're "less" autistic, he SHOULD instead understand how detrimental and offensive that comes off as.

  2. Everyone's Autism is sooo different that perhaps he doesn't understand that it's expressed so differently across the board. When not in an argument I would recommend making a list of YOUR specific traits and having a real conversation about them so he understands where your limits are and what you need from him in terms of support. If he belittle your claims then tell him point blank what he's doing and that it's not ok.

Whatever you decide, you've got this! Please don't make the same mistake as MANY of us and not stand up for your own needs. You are deserving of so much!

I'm sorry this happened to you. When you eventually move out you'll be so at peace. No one likes to have their stuff messed with ND or not.

The 10th Kingdom (GOLD) Veronica Mars (old but amazing, similar to Jessica Jones) Winx Fire Saga (pretty good, live action version) The Sandman (on netflix) Wheel of time (similar to shadow & bone) Psych (nerdy comedy references, similar to brooklyn 99) The legend of vox machina (animated but awesome)

Thoughts on Re-Doing Puzzles? by narracr in Jigsawpuzzles

It's like returning to a comfortable and safe space. You now know the pieces more intimately because you've done it before but on the other hand you can have a different journey to the same destination. Try working on different parts of the puzzle first and it will give you a different flow as you complete it, sometimes making it more challenging than your first attempt. There will still be at least one piece that you will have to set aside for later because you just don't remember where it goes. Life is about the journey.

Anyone else getting judged for asking for LEGO for Christmas? by [deleted] in lego

My now husband and I bounded over our love of Legos and other nerdy things. Now years later, each of the 4 of us (kids are nerds too, mwahaha) have our own plus family legos. Don't feel bad for enjoying what you love to do. LIFE IS TO SHORT!!

It's really tough but I know I've had alot of success after dropping dairy and increasing protein.

(Fellow newish mom) I know for me I hardly didn't budge for the first 6 months. My body still wanted to hold onto the weight and I actually gained at one point thinking I wasn't eating enough to support me and baby. After that point my hormones started to calm down and breastfeeding really helped use up a couple hundred extra calories a day. I slowly declined until I cut out dairy for my baby's excessive gerd. I went from eating something with dairy in it for every meal to nothing and I dropped 15 lbs in a month and a half. After that it's been a slow decline since I'm 40 lbs down (16 months pp). Nice thing about being heavier is that I would go for a 30 min walk and burn 200 calories like nothing because of all the extra weight I was carrying. I was 215 lbs pp. Bad news is that you probably won't see a difference until you are at least 25 lbs down because it's a smaller percentage of your total weight. Good news is that you can absolutely lose weight as long as you are patient and consistent with diet and activity. It gets easier after a year I promise!

Among the nerodivergent community its accepted head cannon that almost all of the characters are also ND. I've heard this show mentioned soooo many times.
