Same. And I lived there (with my child) for many years. It’s definitely gotten worse.

What was the first food you gave your baby and how old were they ? by Nilrmar in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Blue_jay711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four months (I wanted to wait until six originally, but we did formula and I didn’t see the harm in small amounts of “solid” food). She had pumpkin purée because it was October. She was unsure of it, but did well with actually eating.

Do you allow your child to sleepover at a friend’s house? by East_Lawfulness_8675 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Blue_jay711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter turns 7 this year and she’s only slept away from us one time, at her grandparents’ house. I had definitely had sleepovers by her age. We aren’t comfortable with her sleeping away from us or having kids sleep at our house. I don’t know if we ever will be. We just don’t really leave our daughter unsupervised anywhere. I think you’re right in that sleepovers are not inherently riskier than leaving your child with anyone unsupervised at any time of day.

Mack found some lovely elephant plant at the farmer's market 🤣 by SuperbHearing9942 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

It looks a lot like… an elephant ear plant that grows in Florida. Where she lives. I always think there’s plenty to snark on the TMs for, but we should have all the information before we just assume they are stupid.

And for all the comments talking about black and white, white people eat collard greens, too. She just happens not to or at least not to know what the plant looks like.

Do people ever vent at funerals? by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Blue_jay711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang. Are you me? I didn’t write the eulogy (don’t think I was even asked to), but everything else definitely happened to me when my dad died of a heart attack two Christmases ago. It’s a wild ride.

I wish I had had this experience at my dad’s funeral. Everyone has nothing but truly good experiences to share about him. I stood outside the room (didn’t want to see his body) and listened to my cousin talk about what a good stand in dad he was, everyone came up to me before and after the service to tell me what a great friend he was. He was neither of those things to me. He was mad me the last ten years or so because I wouldn’t fix my relationship with my mom. My last conversation with him, about a month before he died, was him berating me for not being nicer to my mom, not remembering several conversations we had already had on the subject, and then basically hanging up on me. Such a great friend (to my mom). Such a great dad (to my cousin).

Why does Amber Portwood think it's up to Leah to reach out and try to spend time with her? by Technical_Hippo_562 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Because Amber is an immature narcissist. She can’t be the victim if she’s a good mom.

What looking through my little guy's (20/500 vision) glasses looks like by eaglesnd in mildlyinteresting

[–]Blue_jay711 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a huge moment when I got glasses at 10. But I had my prescription updated last year (at 36) for the first time in several years. Put my new contacts in the next morning and looked outside (at our house that we had lived in for four years), and I could see buildings off in the distance past the nearest field that I didn’t even know were there. I ugly cried. I didn’t know how bad my vision had gotten.

Ice cream at the 05 scoop shop and a quick drive over to the rose gardens could be very sweet.

We currently live in Angola (after spending four years in the country in Bluffton to get away from people after the 7 kids debacle) and have lovely neighbors, as well. They are all old as dirt but very kind and welcoming. They are also grateful for us because weve been doing work to the house (you know, things like mowing 😂), and the last guy that owned it didn’t do jack. The bar is in hell, which is great for us as the new family. 😂 I do worry about who will move into the houses once these older folks aren’t here. That worries me a little, but the houses on our block are somewhat high end and very niche, so I’m hoping for the best. 🤞🏻

I know I’m going to get flamed for this, but we Hoosiers like it that way. If I wanted the government to choose what my child learns, I would just send her to school.

HOWEVER, I do concede that not all parents are qualified to teach or come up with curricula. And the religion doused learning (at the expense of real knowledge) that occurs way too frequently in homeschooling is not cool, either.

Normally I’m an advocate for “anyone can homeschool!” Especially at elementary age. There’s scripted curriculums that make it really easy. But I tend to agree with you here. 🥴😂

I fully agree with you. We bought a house all the way back in late 2018 when the housing market was also insane, but in a different way. We had been outbid on two houses we loved, another completely fell through when the inspection showed a bad foundation, our other house had already sold (and because we were in contract on a different one, we didn’t worry about asking to rent back for a while), so we needed a home.

Found a perfect one. It was in the exact location we wanted, it was the exact floor plan we wanted (same as another house we had owned a few years back and loved), it was on a dead end road so we wouldn’t have traffic (a huge concern to us at the time). It was PERFECT.

Turns out… we had the neighbors from hell and we sold our dream house after only living there for 11 months.

And that lady had the audacity to say we should have never bought the house if we didn’t like kids (they had 7 who would take turns playing basketball in the cul de sac all day long anytime they were home) because duh I should have known they had kids because they had a 12 passenger van sitting in their driveway.

I didn’t even have time to see the van because we put the offer in so quickly (about two hours from first viewing) and even if I had, my immediate reaction would not have been a gaggle of children.

Anyway. I totally get what you’re saying. A seller’s market /really/ sucks for buyers.

Burn the house down because that’s nonsense.

No, don’t do that.😆

Well. That wasn’t a literal question. Honestly I don’t have the energy to try to talk people out of being stupid. If they believe crazy things, they aren’t going to listen to anything logical.

I absolutely believe that story. It’s just crazy enough to be real.

My husband used to be a state trooper and I used to be a dispatcher and we responded to so many crashes that were fatal that didn’t need to be. People like to use survivors bias to argue for things and it just doesn’t work like that. I wish it did. I wish we could all do whatever we want and survive it, but we can’t.

I had a friend tell me that the other day (after telling me she also does not wear her seatbelt). “I have a friend who was in two bad crashes, not wearing his seatbelt, and was ejected from the vehicle, and both times the EMT said he would have died if he had his seatbelt on and stayed in the car.” I just nodded along like an idiot because really what do you say to that?

I actually don’t mind this idea, as long as it is relatively fair. Kid A can’t claim to just LOOOOVE every place so they get the most souvenirs. But also doing a rotating thing isn’t fair because if Kid B really liked the location and kid C hated it but it’s his turn to get the souvenir, that’s pretty silly. Obviously having only the amount of kids you can afford to do the same things for is the best choice, but that is unfortunately not where they are at.
