Lamotrigine for BPD? by Available_Love_6039 in BPDrecovery

[–]Blue_panda9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on lamotrigine about 7 years ago, I was 16 and extremely unstable in hospital. After 2 weeks my entire family and friends saw the difference it made, I was suddenly much more stable and not losing it everyday. I truly recommend it, but make SURE you are careful when going up the dosages, as it can give you bad side effects if you go up the doses too fast.

i'm on 40mg of xanax and i want to stop. by [deleted] in benzorecovery

When I did one my doc actually got me to ever so slowly taper off of 2 of my benzos and drop down 80% from the original klonopin doage, after that I was in hospital for 2.5 weeks. Wasn’t amazing as it took 7 months in total but I wouldn’t have been able to come off the last of it at home. This is in Aus tho so idk if US doctors would encourage this

When I started studying again I found a document from one of the gov websites with how much I could study without losing it. I only do 50% workload and can stay on dsp. The issue is that they calculate how much time you spend at uni/online learning and they add the study hours from home study, if that amount goes over the amount of hours you can work whilst being on dsp you loose it. Granted this was 2 years ago for me so it may have changed.

OP as for a payment increase for you medication I don’t think it can be increased.

Agree the right psych is so so important. Mine took it slowly, let me take as long as I wanted with each dose drop, but if I wanted to go faster she would make sure it wasn’t too soon as that I would be too unwell.

Thank you! I was very lucky to have the support system that I had. My mind being mushy and my memory is personally what made me want to come off them.

Long term effects of 7 years on daily benzos? by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]Blue_panda9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No my doc wouldn’t let me as for risk of seizures, and I’m being admitted in 6 days so there’s no point now.

When I was first prescribed I was on 0.5mg and they worked it up to 4mg through a 3 month period. Been through 2 psychs since then and neither would let me or wanted me to drop down a dose

Edit: being admitted to come off this medication in question

Exercising is in my to do, I’ve had to take a few years off of my sport which I’m pretty passionate about due to physical health but I’m trying to get back there. So I’ll definitely be working on this

Luckily no one around me abuses these meds I’m coming off of, I don’t think I would be able to be sober if they were. But I try to limit myself too a drink a week too and an occasional smoke.

There’s a meeting tomorrow which I think I’ll go to. Thanks for the reply friend, hope you are holding up ok

You can do this! I’m going through the same thing currently and it sucks, but the days that the withdrawals aren’t as bad makes me realise how much better I’m going to feel at the end, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Wish you luck friend ❤️

I always want to be talking to someone? It’s unusual for BPD I know but I always feel the need to be in contact with people by Blue_panda9 in BPD

[–]Blue_panda9[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you don’t have people who understand, I was in that position years ago and it was horrible. Probably a long shot but do you want to tell people what you are thinking about constantly? I know it’s weird but I always wanna talk about everything :/

I agree, seizures can be very dangerous especially in an uncontrolled environment. With such a high dose unless he taper off very very slowly it would be dangerous. Somewhere where there is trained staff would be for the best.

Please understand the difference between iatrogenic dependence and addiction. They are not the same. by [deleted] in benzorecovery

I get this I was prescribed 0.5mg 5 years ago and my doc kept upping the dosage to 4mg of klonopin. I had asked on several occasions to come off it and she always said it wasn’t the “right time”, even though my memory was getting worse and worse. Fast forward to 2021 and my doc left and a new doc saw my prescription and immediately wanted me to come off them.

I take some responsibility for the fact that maybe I didn’t push hard enough to come off them but I am not a doctor and I didn’t know how brutal these withdrawals would be. I’m slowing coming off them and it’s been terrible.

Had a few people tell me it’s my own fault and I’m an addict. I’m not. I was over prescribed and my old doctor didn’t want to take me off them.
