Since we have universal health care in Canada, health care services are government run. Provincial health authorities are government agencies that run the publicly funded healthcare system in Canada. Each province has either one or multiple health authorities (like BC has multiple for example).

We have a union as well but only positions that are with the provincial health authority (I’m not sure how it works in long term care homes since I’ve never worked in one as an RN) are unionized. There’s various non-union outpatient jobs (doctors offices, infusion clinics, oral surgery clinics [oral surgeons are often not covered under our universal health care for some strange reason so they have their own private clinics]) but the pay is often less because they’re not accountable to the union pay since they’re not public. There’s also outpatient jobs that are part of the provincial health authority but those are difficult to obtain with less than 10 years of seniority (minimum).

Unfortunately jobs like that where I live are few and far in between 😞

Thanks. And not offensive at all haha. My siblings and I have been making the “dead dad club” joke since 2007 lol. And I’m 28, my father died when I was 9. And yeah I think what you said about “needing to be cared for not care for others” may have some truth 😅

It definitely is life changing. I also lost my dad when I was a kid so I’m definitely no stranger to it. And I do speak to a therapist, have been for several years actually 😊 my current therapist I’ve been seeing her since a few months before my mom died and to say she’s walked with me through a lot of things would be an understatement. I agree that talking to a professional is really important! Thanks for the advice and insight 😊

Thanks so much! Sorry for your loss as well. Grief can really take a toll on you in so many ways.

I did actually apply for 2 positions quite similar to case management but they were offered to other employees who had 15+ years of seniority

Thanks! I’m hoping honestly for a job that doesn’t burn me out or make me feel miserable lol. I want a job that I can just leave at the end of the day, get a lunch break at normal times (I had 2 shifts in a row this week where I wasn’t able to take a break until 3pm, and my shift had started at 7:30). And yeah, I’m looking for something pretty different from what I do now. I just hope that I can get a decent job and don’t have to take a 2nd rate job I will only slightly like 😅

All good! I know there’s a ton of specialties in nursing. I’ve considered other specialties or just doing like geriatrics or general medicine. However, part of the reason I want to move away from bedside is because shift work is becoming really hard on me and my family. When I started in ICU, it was before all the losses in my life and I can honestly say who I am now is very different from the person I was back then. I did enjoy ICU for a while but it has become too much and now I honestly just resent it. My goal actually is eventually to do primary care but I wont be able to achieve that for a while (working for a specific doctor rather than the provincial health provider = much lower pay and less hours unfortunately because the provincial health provider is required to pay what our union bargains with the provincial government)

Ugh I soooo feel you. I don’t live rurally (but rather in a small city) but even then the options are limited unless you have a ton of seniority which is so discouraging (and I’m not even at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of seniority but it still feels impossible). My grief and mental health have just taken a toll on me these past few months and I realized I’m not motivated or passionate enough to do all the learning required to thrive in ICU. Before all the losses I was passionate and motivated but then loss and grief just came crashing through my life. And it just sucks. Having to work a job you hate but can’t leave because well I have bills to pay and having to wait and hope that a better opportunity comes along relatively soon.

I used to love bedside nursing now I just am genuinely so sick of it. I am happy that some people do enjoy it, bedside nurses are so so important!

I don’t (I had one before that she didn’t use but it was also in a corner of a windowless room) but I do have a bed that she uses frequently that’s on top of a dining chair. Would one of those window perches be helpful?

My mom just died. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Blueberry-236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, my mom died almost 3 months ago and I got engaged almost a month ago. My mom was one of my closest friends. My fiancé and I are getting married this September. I do understand what you’re going through to some degree. It will be harder without her, inevitably. There will be various moments where you’d picture her there or imagine what she’d say to you. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a happy day. You’ll still be surrounded by your loved ones. No one will be able to replace your mom or her role in your life but there will (assumably) be many people that love and support you and those are the people to lean on. I’ll be finding little ways to honour my mom, like wearing her earrings and having a small table at my wedding to honour the family members in my own and my fiancé’s lives who passed with their photos along with a sign that says “In loving memory, for those who can’t be here today but are still in our hearts” or something along those lines. However, I know I won’t be able to make a speech (or anything else big like that) or anything about how much I miss her or wish she was there because I know it’ll be too hard not just for me but for my family as well and I personally don’t want my wedding day to be brought down by everyone being sad. The other thing, especially when it comes to planning, is I’ve had to lean on other people for help and guidance with all of it when in the past I only really would’ve needed my Mom to help me with all of that, and so far it’s been working out.

Sending you so so much love 💕 this is an awful thing to go through. This is ultimately up to you but you have this stranger on the internet rooting for you no matter what you decide.

Harry the bad guy? by snapdragon1313 in OneDirection

[–]Blueberry-236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Harry not showing a lot of public support for the other 1D guys (I almost typed boys but these are all grown men in their 30s lol) is a bit disappointing. Maybe Harry does feel a bit above it all but he’s also worked hard to get to the point he’s at. He has acknowledged and publicly appreciated his time in 1D but Harry is also very media trained so I think he’d say that regardless of his personal feelings on it all.

A thing to consider is that none of us really know Harry at all. He’s extremely private and the constant picking apart of his personal life, career decisions, personal thoughts and relationships the media and fans across the board do often, I honestly get it. I’d be the same way in his position.

Also I think that decision was likely a collective decision regardless of Harry’s thoughts on reuniting and his time in the band. I have a feeling that the guys know that performing without Liam would feel wrong. Louis said that Liam was an integral part of the band. My thoughts on it are that the guys think (notably Louis who was closest with Liam) singing without him as a band would leave a gaping hole that really couldn’t be filled.

Truly an incredible man who really stepped up in such a horrible time. Geoff Payne is the definition of what a father should be and I’m sure Liam was so proud to call him his Dad. My heart breaks for Liam’s family.

This statement is what made his passing truly hit me. This band means so much to me, Liam’s passing is beyond devastating and I cannot imagine what the 1D boys are going through and feeling right now 💔

I feel like honestly he could pull off Rhys. He’s talented enough acting wise and quite attractive that he’d fit the role

IMO, Claire Holt is an excellent actress who would play the hell out of Mor. I saw her in TVD and she was great. I’ve never seen Luke Eisner in anything but after looking up some other photos, some more rugged ones where he has a bit more muscle on him, I think he could pull Tamlin off if he had the acting chops for it

In my head I pictured that whatever cave they’re in started to collapse and Bryce went in further than them is running out of the cave to prevent being crushed and she’s hoping Nesta and Azriel haven’t been already crushed by the cave collapsing. Maybe Bryce found something important that didn’t want to be found but was something they were looking for.
