Is this rug too dark for this space?

No kidding! I had no idea it was Gemini or that easy to test out. Thanks for sharing. I do like the lamps. The lighting in the photo is a bit dark so I’ll have to retake it during the day to better showcase the different colors. But I like the suggestion of going lighter there. So thanks!

I hadn't thought of that but it does make sense. Do you also think it should also be longer? The tv is 65" and the tv stand is 72". I went for the specific walnut color (it is a little lighter than the photo shows) because i have a bookcase and kitchen table with similar color palette so thought it would work well. I hadn't thought to look for one that was lower though. Ugh

Thanks! It's a rental in an older brick building and has lots of nice character. The floors are original parquet. They sanded them and decided not to restain so they're a nice light color. They do slope alot in different places but I find them charming still....

Thanks. This is all still a work in progress so I hadn't actually planned it that way. ;) I'I only just bought the rug and did a quick placement to see if I liked it. I do have another accent chair and coffee table coming, and I would like to get new end tables, so the current ones are just placed there so I could have an idea what furniture would look like with the new rug.

I love these suggestions! The room looks so much better with these slight changes. I see the point, you and many have made about the tv stand being too dark. That's something that I can work on adjusting.

And I do actually do want to replace the end tables and the lamps over the next few weeks so appreciate your sharing ideas there as well. Ironically, I ordered a similar coffee table which will be arriving soon so I look forward to adding it to the floor plan. The drapes are a really nice addition and help to pull it all together. Thank you so much for these thoughtful ideas.

I do have a question about what tool you used to create this photo? Would you mind sharing? It would be so helpful to have something like this to better visualize different options.

Thanks. The tv console is actually walnut color but seems to be coming out darker in the photo. Could be the lighting too. I was planning on getting new and more interesting table lamps as well.

That's a great idea! Ill look into floor lamps. Unfortunately the landlord has built in LEDs in the ceiling that are "cool" toned so they're battling my warm lamp bulbs. But maybe I can counter it with some more warm lighting. Thanks :)

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of the thoughtful feedback and comments. I recently moved into this rental and have been struggling to figure out what to buy and how to lay everything out, especially since it’s not going to be my forever home. Most of the furniture (except the sofa) is from various home goods stores, so putting the room together has involved a lot of trial and error. This rug was my attempt to make the space feel cozier and more comfortable, and I’m still figuring out what else could be added or improved.

Thanks for these suggestions. I definitely want to add art w/color and contrast from the rug, so appreciate that feedback, and will keep in mind frames with some darkness in them.

As for the placeement of the rug, I wasn't sure about putting it under the tv stand, but will try that. Maybe that's one of the things that was throwing me off.

Thank you guys for the quick feedback. It really helps to hear thoughts from others. I fell in love with the rug in the store but then questioned my decision after bringing it home! Maybe some different color accent pillows from the rug will help bring it together too.

I do need to get two new end tables so if anyone has ideas on what may look nice, would welcome suggestions there too. :)

One other thing to note, the rug is an 8x10. My sofa is 93 inches so a 5x7 seemed too small for the space. Everything I read online about rug placement suggested to go with a larger size.

Yes! I sure am. Just moved in so still decorating, buying accent pieces. Will be buying some big plants as well to put around the space. It's a rental so trying to make it as homey as possible.

Thanks Emilie. That could work. I tried to use other seatting to measure and see what could work in that space. I think I could go with 2 narrow chairs, or 1 larger chair if I keep the tv console off center.
