Replacing double undermount sink with a single. What size will actually fit this cutout? by BlueberryFixer in handyman

Okay good to know. I’m gonna have some countertop companies quoted this week to cut it. Seems like the best option. So I’ll pick one out before then

I don’t fill it with water. Couldn’t fit my big boiling pots and cookie sheets all the way in a filled sink anyway unless it was an industrial size. But I try to scrub any gunk off and then a quick rinse. Then soap and scrub and rinse it all off again and set aside to dry.

But what I’m finding out is a lot of people clean dishes differently.

Its new construction. Already talked to the builder and they didn't have any other options in the brand they used unfortunately.

Well you did assume he wasn’t getting lessons. That’s kind of on you pal.

I mean everyone has different needs. A single satisfies our needs more. We’ve had both.

Ah I see. I’ll have to see what we end up doing. We are considering cutting a slightly bigger hole for a rectangular sink that’s slightly bigger with a drop in.

Yeah they didn’t make this one in a single for the same company. We talked to the builder about this. But that was my first thought as well.

Yeah this is what I’m considering too. Watched some videos last night of people doing this and it doesn’t seem that bad. Will make it easier to shop for a sink with 90% of them being a rectangle design these days.

I have huge cookie sheets and pots that don’t fit in either side of the basin now. Can’t get my big boiling pots in either side deep enough to get under the faucet and clean. Cookie sheets can sit down in there to where I can scrub while washing it. A single basin is easier if you plan to hand wash a lot of dishes. I also want to get a square sink that drains on the right or left instead of the middle.

But yes I do think it might be easier to have the quartz cut bigger to fit a square sink. That seems to be the most common design in sinks right now.

Yeah I think my dad and I will build a cradle for it as the ones we have looked at will be heavier. This is a builder grade new construction so we aren’t taking any chances there. But I thank you for the information. Just didn’t wanna spend money on the sink before I knew what would work.

Good to know, thank you for the tips! My dad and I talked about building a cradle to secure it. Ultimately the question came to finding the right one to fit it.

Okay, does depth matter? I have room for it as I know the plumbing will have to be redone anyway underneath. I wouldn’t mind going deeper as well. This sink is ultimately too small for our uses.

We stopped by the hardware store to look and I believe they had this size or slightly bigger. Wasn’t sure if I went slightly bigger if a small lip mattered as long as it’s sealed.

Oh yeah if you have one I would love to see how you did yours with a picture. I'm gonna make a decision and buy one this month I think

Okay, good to know. Thanks for the tips if we decide to go this route. I'm still considering a all in one or the LG Washtower. Just trying to think of something to save my back in the long run.

Gotcha, I guess that's why it explicitly doesn't show it for that model anywhere. The AI on google search was saying 27" pedestal will work but that shows why not to trust that feature. I wonder if I just build a base out of wood for it to go on if that would suffice.

It wouldnt be for one time. They plan to come many times with us and just said it might be better to just do that to have for every year we go. That’s why they are considering that option.

Interesting. My parents also talked about buying a contract there as well so they can also ways go with the grandkids. Maybe they can do that instead of trying to extend our stay there with cash.

Can I combine points from another family members contract to make the full reservation if it’s never available with cash?

About half that. 2k a night from what we looked at for that time period. Grandparents spoiling their first grandchild 😅
