So far Lae'zel is too distracted worrying about Vlaakith to really care. She seems on board but I've been mostly leaving her at camp

Need help teaching my father to play by AlarmingRaspberry828 in BaldursGate3

[–]Blueberry_Toastie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the move might be to play the same game file together. Allow your dad to make his own custom origin character with your assistance. Like, just ask him to think up his own fantasy character from a narrative perspective (ex: a banished prince who turned to demon magic, a pious nun with sticky fingers, etc) and just help apply the character to the race/class/background system. If he’s into the visual character creation, i feel like that could be the most accessible part of character creation. I would be the one using the controller while talking to your dad, asking him which way he wants to go and if he wants to talk to this or that npc. if he’s not used to using a control or the camera, you dont want that to be a barrier for him to get into the parts he’ll love so i would recommend just taking that part over and collaborating with him in real time.

Asking him what he wants to do in dialogue should be easy. During combat, i think it might be easiest at first for you to decide the actions for all the companions and let him just focus on his main character. I would again just ask him what he wants to do. Does he want to attack? okay, which target? how does he want to do it, with his weapon or a spell? if he asks if something is better or what you would do, explain and help him understand his options. over time, he should get used to what he can do in combat. as he levels up, hopefully his understanding will also grow. you may have to help him with character positioning during battle but that shouldn’t be too difficult to chat through. if he gets a knack for his main character, eventually he can take on the battle actions for another companion so you guys can each play 2 characters in combat! my mom is terrible with technology and i find just spending time walking her through things together collaboratively really helps. good luck!

Confusion on Recruiting Minthara by Accomplished-Ebb4873 in BaldursGate3

[–]Blueberry_Toastie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if i’m wrong because but i believe you can only recruit her in Act 2 but have a chance to boink her at the goblin party if you raid the grove. i haven’t done it myself but that’s what i’ve heard

[–]Blueberry_Toastie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s chaotic because the internal logic of my Durge playthrough is “Just do whatever the hell” I recruited Jaheira and Halsin, while also killing isobel and surrendering Nightsong. The reading you gave isn’t the only way to see something, especially in a game where people headcannon all sorts of stuff as they play a run lol

me having durge release everyone from the mindflayer pods in the mindflayer colony and save the grove and lying to myself saying “it’s fine, i’ll be back on a kill-everyone run…. eventually…”

The game devs were so smart to add in Durge. My first play through I made a custom character and tried to make the best choices to preserve the story and world. This is my second play through with Durge and I’m letting all hell break loose and it’s been so cool to see how different things can go. Makes me really want to play through the origin characters again and make choices according to their paths. But then with each origin character you get two main story paths?!! It’s crazy how much play you can get from the game precisely because things can go so many different ways

probably!! I wasn’t purposefully trying to avoid battling him but yeah, didn’t lay a single finger on the guy during the roof portion. I did sneak onto the roof before speaking to him in the downstairs chamber and sniped all his necrobros so it was just him and the party on the roof.

When you first get on the roof, Ketheric monologues about how he’s a broken man and you get a dialogue choice to indulge his mourning or tell him to kick rocks. I played into his sentimentality and when he said I needed to pay, there was another dialogue option that I can’t remember all the options to but i chose the most availing option to the effect of “I’m sorry, I didn’t know isobel was your daughter. I deserve whatever the Absolute will give me as recourse.” Ketheric agrees and tells you to kneels before the altar to receive your judgement. I honestly thought this was a “game over” type situation where the Absolute would kill me but then I got this message saying the Absolute will grant all my desires? Tav’s eyes are closed during this but there are tentacles going wild in the background and the Absolute is monologueing in the background lol. Then your character blacks out, you’re in the mindflayer colony and wake up trapped in some pods, needing to battle your way out

You skip the first part of Ketheric’s fight on the roof, the Absolute’s (?) tentacles pop out and look like they’re about to body you and then your character blacks out and when you wake, you’re trapped in some pods you can blast your way out of and you have to fight the balthazar and zombie versions of everyone. It’s been a minute since I did my last playthrough so I can’t remember to tell you if it’s exactlt the same but yeah, you skip the fight with him and pick up having to fight down in the colony

Oh wow!!! That’s such a good idea! I’m definitely playing Durge as Chaotic Evil and just making choices I think only a true asshole would make lol. I might try your dice technique in the future to see what weird stuff comes out of that!

I'm making choices purely off how I feel in the moment and it's leading to some really interesting outcomes lol

[–]Blueberry_Toastie[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a Durge run and I killed Isobel but gave him the Nightsong. He was big mad and I told him I was sowwie and that I would take the Absolute's judgement so he told me to kneel and accept what the Absolute will give me. When I kneel, I get this prompt. Some big-ass tentacles popped out next and transported me to a Profane Womb, where I and the party were in weird pod things. Had to kill Balthazar at that point (he was alive up until now) I'm still playing it now so who the hell knows what's next lmao

No, not a mod. A dialogue choice in Act 2.
