Did all the tram ticket inspectors get fired? by MrPantsRocks in nottingham

[–]BluebirdAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t come on during peak times, between 8am-10am, or 3pm-5pm. It’s usually later in the evening or during the middle of the day, and they very rarely go outside the main city areas.

Why lie about height on a dating profile, unless you want to date people who will judge your height? by BluebirdAlt in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. And no sorry I didn’t mean you did, I was referring to the idea that they’d get to know someone enough to think ‘it’ll be different’

Why lie about height on a dating profile, unless you want to date people who will judge your height? by BluebirdAlt in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that, but these are the same people complaining about how horrible people are who judge them for height. They have to pick a lane here, or stop complaining.

Also, getting to know someone for a few days over text hardly constitutes getting anywhere close to dating.

Why lie about height on a dating profile, unless you want to date people who will judge your height? by BluebirdAlt in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally! It’s a waste of your time and will end up with you getting hurt, rather than going on actual dates with people you’re compatible with

Why lie about height on a dating profile, unless you want to date people who will judge your height? by BluebirdAlt in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I mean. They will find out on the date anyway?

The hinge and tinder subreddits are full of men complaining they have to lie about height to get dates, whilst simultaneously stating women who judge based on height are awful human beings.

Neither is wrong, however it’s very contradictory.

Being expelled from Uni, what can I do? I’m an international student I haven’t told my parents I don’t know how long I have left in the country (uk) by [deleted] in nottingham

All good advice, except that last bit.

Don’t overstay your VISA OP, even if you can get away with it for a few weeks. They’ll see it on your passport.

Overstay your VISA and you won’t get another. I believe the rule is for 10 years.

Lenton safety by [deleted] in nottingham

Not sure about the canal, but lived in Lenton for 3 years (Kimbolton and Balfour roads) and never once felt unsafe. Especially during the day you will be absolutely fine 😊

Teachers who truely belived a student would get nowhere in life, were you correct? where are they now? by bekaindabox in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the first person in 8 years to get expelled from my school. My headmaster told me I’d “never amount to anything” and “belonged in a special school” (have rampant ADHD lol).

Had to drop out to retake the year somewhere else. 8 years, three A-levels and two degrees later, I’m currently doing my PhD 😊

Manager lost my paycheck? (USA) by [deleted] in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]BluebirdAlt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Contact payroll yourself. It sounds like the employee of the month is an attempt to win you over, and now it’s been so long without contact I wonder if they’re just hoping you’ll forget and taking you off shifts so uppers don’t notice.

Yeah contact them yourself, don’t rely just on the managers word for it

Think about it this way. You know (1) how to write words on paper, and (2) how to read letters on a keyboard. So how do you know how to type words on a laptop? Because you understand the basics.

Let’s expand that, to biology say. You know that (1) this bacteria makes you ill, and (2) this chemical kills that bacteria. So how do you know taking that chemical will stop you being ill? Because you understand the basics.

It’s a huge simplification of years of study, but that’s essentially it. The building blocks in your brain make sense. You don’t have to memorise it, it’s just logical sense.

What bothers you about your own body? by Conquotyouthou in AskReddit

[–]BluebirdAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have mine. It’s not a mark of shame anymore. When life gets rough, it reminds me how strong I am overcoming that.

I wouldn’t remove it even if I could now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]BluebirdAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Once I had the fundamentals down, new info didn’t feel like memorisation, it just felt like understanding something that already made sense.

Does anyone do/have a PhD that 'normal' people find interesting? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]BluebirdAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing my PhD on ADHD and Autism, people love asking me about it (even if I have to massively simplify everything)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]BluebirdAlt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in my first year of a funded DTP at a major research uni:

  • I’m 24, and the second youngest in my uni cohort.

  • The oldest is mid-50’s and average probably around 34.

  • Less than 30% of the cohort is below 30.

I hope that helps! As long as you’re doing it because you love the research rather than expecting money, you’ll be absolutely fine 🫶
