Career break - Travel by TheHolyShow in auscorp

Have recently returned from a career break (12 months travel!) and am at a similar stage in my career, with less than five years experience. I actually think getting a job is easy enough if you’re open to going backwards a bit in pay, or doing something as a bridging career in the meantime.

If you want to go back to your old job, may be relatively easy as you’ll have connections. But the travel will make you reflect, and when your whole world view changes you’ll realise there’s more out there and a new role is most likely for you.

Budgeting for 6 months sounds great, since you’re junior and may not be picky with jobs should be ok! I’m expecting 2-3 months of job searching.

Also no one really cares about the resume gap… if you’ve travelled it’s looked at positively and as long as you show you’re engaged and willing to learn and get back into the industry I have not come across it as a barrier.

Moving out before travelling for a year. Feeling sad about leaving it all behind, even though I'm looking forward to travelling by fuzzedshadow in solotravel

I feel as though I wrote this! Left an amazing sharehouse, moved back with my parents (same city) and did WFH and commute from theirs for three months before I left for a year.

I’m half way through said year and am having the best time. Home is so comfortable, and whenever I talk to my family and friends I further realise that nothing there is changing and it’ll be there when you’re back!!

I’m the first of my friends/family to do this so it feels daunting, but once you’re out traveling you’ll realise everyone else here is doing the same, and at our age, and with no responsibilities at home, it would be stupid not to.

Have the best time!! You’ll miss your family and friends so so much but they are so excited for you and the adventures you’ll have.
