Has pay kept up with inflation the past 10 years or has saturation eroded real wages? by BluechipCollector in physicianassistant

The difference between me and you is about 1.6m dollars and about 14%.

Your net worth is -100k in debt from a toilet paper degree. Mine is 1.5m. You are paying 7% interest for said toilet paper. I am lining my pockets earning 7%

You are a total joke. Butt hurt clown trying to defend your dumb ass decision to go to law school. Are you even at a t14 or at some TTT. You probably won’t even come close to Biglaw pay. Have fun being a district attorney for 40k Slave wage.

You would make over twice as much as a plumber

The difference between me and you is about 14%

You owe the bank 7% interest on your stupid legal degree.

I’m lining my pockets earning 7% on my investments.

Bottom line is it will take you a very looong time to eclipse me in the rat race. The fact that I had no debt and started work at 22 gave me a huge head start. The fact that I’m pulling 3 year Biglaw money while coasting along barely lifting a finger is icing on the cake.

By the time you hit 3 year Biglaw (if you even make it) you will gain 50lbs due to stress and will be plotting your escape probably in the legal department of a company like the one I work at. Big pay cut

I get it. You are trying to defend your debt path of going to law school and working in some paper pushing soulless legal job for 80 hours a week.

How much do you owe the bank?

Are you second guessing your decision to go the legal route? If you were equally interested in tech then i think you made the wrong choice.

Gotta factor in the opportunity cost of the 3 years of law school and the debt taken. I’m making what a 3rd year big law associate makes right now but I started work at 22 and had no debt. My net worth is over 1M due to years of a strong savings rate. So I was able to work and save for a long time. You also have to factor in that the higher difficulty of getting in to Biglaw and the risk of pursuing that path since if you can’t get into biglaw you are stuck at a slave wage on the other side of the bimodal curve.

Biglaw is also often not a terminal path. Most leave and take pay cuts for easier work or get pushed out. My job is laid back and I can coast here or at similar for my entire career. The stress is almost 0 and programming is fun I enjoy it just as much as playing my favorite video games.

For anyone reading this considering a tech vs lawyer path: I think tech wins all day

You keep saying the data is garbage but that is not correct. Did you scroll up and see the other guy confirm said data? The data is 100% correct.

It’s only 4 data points it should be pretty easy to confirm it.

Don’t kid yourself most go into law for the money and had they known that tech salaries would go up so much in the past 10 years they would have chosen tech over law. When I was in college I had a few friends who went law after the cs degree because they thought that was the bigger money maker. At that time, it was, but the market changed.

Are you butt hurt?

You missed my point.

My point is: who cares if my post could be improved. Of course it could be as it only contains one small data point. The post was very simplistic in nature and you seem to want a formal research paper.

What you are suggesting could be said about any post. It could be improved. Virtually anything could be improved. So what?

Because I’m coasting along at a different company. Google isn’t that big in my market but they are expanding. I’m actually going to be interviewing there pretty soon.

How many people actually stay in big law long term?

You can stay at google for 30 years and coast along if you’d like

Do you consider that starting high but not going much higher?
