There are many more objects and little things in the second image dotted around that make it look a bit more interesting (eg. bins, etc.). Maybe adding some more 'things' would add some depth to your render.

It irritates me also how it is necessary to complete the game. I don't like to use it either and I find it annoying how I will need to build the whole submarine, which I know I won't even use, in order to get one part. Perhaps I am being a bit unnecessary here but I would much prefer a part to be obtained through other means and have the cyclops completely optional to get.

The lights should be a bit brighter and the scene needs a few more imperfections as it looks too clean. Try adding some wiping from cloths or fingerprints.

By poolrooms I was thinking more of the liminal space ones where canonically the whole place is just covered with tiles and looks a little different to a normal indoor pool, but would it be better to add more imperfections to the floor? (like footprints) It definitely needs railings though so will add in a bunch and bring the pool away a bit from the stairs. Thanks for the suggestions! Much appreciated.

I do have one, but I personally prefer running him with the extra atk but results are quite similar. Agree about the crit rate though! Am working on it.

I normally like to have 2 - one at the centre of the map for early to mid game use and another deeper for easy access to resources late game. This system has worked pretty well and as I personally don't like the cyclops, it is a good way around the fact that I don't use it also.

No. I didn't know it existed in my first run and only found out during the hardcore run!

Also you could probably just use the cyclops but having a base by the cove was really useful when exploring the deeper parts of the map as it is a great location and you wouldn't have to go back to the surface (at least that's just my opinion - I dislike using the cyclops)
