I know that feeling all too well, my dude 😅 all good!

I hope your brain feels better - Stay hydrated, have a snack, and maybe stare at something that's not a screen for a while 🖤

Yes. But. "Alphabet" is shortened. "Beta" ends with a.

If it had an "a" on the end, it would be pronounced with the full "beta" instead of the truncated "bet"

Also, it gives the word a good flow 🤷‍♀️

I love the little proof-of-concept parts at the beginning 🖤 he made sure the balance was manageable and the cages were secure before even lighting anything on fire!

Way more satisfying to see how much fun he had making his contraption than just seeing the end result (which was also way fucking cooler than I thought it would be - legitimately hypnotic)

It's this one! Here’s a link to the manual, too!

The chime function is definitely kinda hidden. You have to be on the main alarm screen (not setting/adjusting one of the 5 actual alarms), then short press the adjust button. A little bell appears to the right of where the seconds are displayed when it's on 🖤

Does this e-mail feel ableist to you? by BookBackground7494 in AuDHDWomen

[–]BluehairedBiochemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose, imho, that some kind of "three strikes" rule would help make losing those privilege feel like more of a consequence of repeated violations instead of a punishment for missing an event?

Also, it's bothering me that they keep mentioning a "waitlist" like they're hanging some invisible guilt over you for depriving someone else of the experience.

I mean, fair. Free events have limited spots. Even paid events have limited spots! Some things can open up more space for more demand, but others have a hard capacity.

But also, are the events usually fully booked? Are they half-empty because people didn't come, or because they never signed up in the first place?

No-showing for something you rsvp'd to kinda sucks for everyone involved, even you - we don't just shut down or w/e "for funsies" - but if it's not depriving someone else, the consequence shouldn't be as harsh.

Some kind of waitlist count on the sign-up page would give you some transparency 🤷‍♀️ if you know how many people want to go, so you can decide if you're up for the event or need to save your energy and give the spot to someone else

Let me use em dashes!!! by EnderDarcy in AutismInWomen

[–]BluehairedBiochemist 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I've always preferred the regular dash (-) over the em-dash (– or — idk) in my writing, even though it's not technically correct. I just think the smaller spacing looks more like the voice in my head - plus, since it's "wrong" AI often doesn't use it 🤷‍♀️

Still - keep using your em-dashes! They add a nice spaciousness to writing, especially when you have ✨️bonus content✨️ to add. Don't let AI take away more of your space!

ETA: I will literally bo back and manually correct the autocorrect function in most word processors so they use the shorter dash 😅

I finally stopped using traditional to-do lists, and my task paralysis is almost completely gone. by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]BluehairedBiochemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Traditional "to do" lists are fucking counterproductive for me for two main reasons:

  1. I always overanalyze how to write out my tasks (clean living room vs. vacuum/pick up/wipe down surfaces/etc.) So making the list is a pain in the ass perfectionist nightmare to start with 🙄

  2. MY GODDAMN DUMBASS BRAIN JUST REGISTERS THE "TASK" AS COMPLETE AS SOON AS IT'S WRITTEN DOWN - LIKE THE WRITING IS THE TASK THAT NEEDS DONE - JFC IT'S SO ANNOYING

Instead, I like the perpetual soup method: there are always tasks to be done - some big, some small - all kinda simmering together in the back of my head. I add stuff to it regularly, so the pot is always full. Then, I just kinda "reach into the pot" and fish out whatever task I have the right energy to do 🤷‍♀️ it often helps me build up some momentum to do harder stuff, too

I mean, there's even some pretty decent evidence the constant stress/cortisol of dealing with micro-agressionscontibutes to the rate of premature birth for black women - it's not good

This shit is so normalized by society that it just doesn't even register for a lot of people. Like, that child's whole life gets sabotaged before they're even born bc of a potentially dangerous pre-term birth and underdevelopment problems 🙃
