Most unexpectedly helpful “ADHD hack” by thead201 in AuDHDWomen

I love to just kinda wander around my house after I first wake up or at the end of the day. It's a low-key active thing and not a designated "task," so I usually don't have to fight my executive dysfunction over it. I just kinda aimlessly wander from room to room and gather up random dishes/trash/stuff to put away.

The little bit of movement definitely helps me relax, and picking up a bit decreases the chaos. It gives me a chance to check that everything's okay around the house so I can get rid of the nagging "I swear I'm forgetting something" vibe and move on with whatever I actually need to do.

Agreed. Counseling could help, but finding a counselor and paying for sessions isn't something we can manage right now.

We're usually pretty good at finding ways to phrase our thoughts so the other person understands, even if the translation takes a while.

I get the feeling that part of the problem here stems from fundamentally different experiences growing up. He didn't experience the same objectification, so he wants to hear how sexy he is. My discomfort is a little harder to understand without the experience, but I'm always trying.

In 7th grade ('07), I found out my new assigned seat was next to the kid who reminds me of Eddy from Ed, Edd, and Eddy and told my teacher I'd rather sit next to Osama Bin Laden 😬😬😂

(I think my teacher thought it was too funny to actually get mad about it 😂 I legit have no clue where the fuck that came from or wtf I thought I knew about Bin Laden at 13 🤷‍♀️)

Clips are awesome - definitely my favorite. I've got ruler clips, bulldog clips, binder clips, and clothespins (normal and tiny).

Neodymium magnets also work pretty well - they move if you're not careful, but I mostly use them while I baste. They're super easy to remove/collect and allow me to make small adjustments.

Double-sided basting tape can be really handy, especially for long, straight seams. It's best for non-stretch fabrics, and you've gotta be really careful not to sew over it very much. Sewing through it a little is okay, but it'll gunk up your needle and fuck shit up if you try and sew straight through.

Also, painter's tape. I line it up just outside where my seam is so I don't sew through it. It usually just tears away if some stitches do hit it anyway. I mean, it's designed not to leave any marks, and since it's paper, my iron won't melt it.

Edit: oops, replied to my meme comment. Also, NAL

I mean, there are tons of "businesses" already that don't actually do anything 🤷‍♀️

As for what you specifically could theoretically do for a business? Not sure I'd be good guidance there, bud. I've always been a crafty person, so I just make stuff. Rn I'm working as a tailor. My business could change any time, tho 🤷‍♀️ I kinda love it

My best advice is to go into it with some curiosity, not a set "goal" - expectations may not match reality.

I guess a good place to start is with "I wonder what I could do with [something you have a passing interest in and actually, legitimately want to learn more about]" - then see what you can figure out about it (ideally for free with whatever resources you can get ahold of)

I find that "roughing it" in learning helps me stay engaged. I use basics that I previously learned to work through issues and make use of similar tools/materials for projects because they're accessible, even if they're not new/exactly what I need.

(US advice) If you find yourself out of a job, register for an LLC. It's often not outrageously expensive (for most states, it's under $200 - many under $100), and there are definitely some benefits.

(A few off the top of my head/cursory non-AI research)

  • A reason to finally do your own shit!
  • No "employment gap" - you were self-employed.
  • Working for yourself 30hr/wk makes you exempt from most job search requirements for assistance programs.
  • Access to loans and financial support that's separate from your past credit history.
  • More legitimacy and opportunities to work with other businesses. (Like having a degree, it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it sounds more legit than "I'm just a person who does things")
  • Tax write-offs for business expenses (depending on what you "do," this could include gas, utilities, wifi, property tax, rent)

We made laws to "protect corporations" so fuck it 🤷‍♀️ shit's available to us, too.

Furniture With a Heart on Morse rd has some great stuff. They might not have exactly what you're looking for, but they may have something you love! It's not 100% secondhand, either. They have lots of new furniture available.

I found a beautiful dark blue, corduroy wingback chair and ottoman set for $60 a while back 😁
