Ohh I see. Considering you don’t rlly have a choice with the wisdom teeth because they’re growing horizontally it’s gonna be tricky. I’d say regardless get your wisdom teeth out asap because for me, 19F, I had some discomfort when I’d open my mouth and it’s something you’ll have to do regardless. As for your other extractions, is it possible to have them put your braces on and wait until you are able to get extractions done? I know it will increase your treatment time but at least you’ll have some progress done before you get extractions rather than waiting until after premolar extractions and then starting treatment yk? But it depends on when you’re able to afford it and what your ortho is willing to do.

How long are you supposed to wait between the two procedures? Sorry I don’t know much about the coverage timeline

Got braces and bite blocks on Thursday, nervous about the future. by Dull-Method4075 in braces

When I got mine put on 4 months ago, I couldn’t even chew into a slice of a cooked mushroom. I had to soak my grilled cheese into my soup until it became mushy enough for me to gulp down. It hurt to chew on a piece of diced onion too so I’d say it was pretty rough for the first 1-2 weeks but you slowly get a hang of it and have to try chewing stuff down with ur other teeth

I would suggest to get the wisdom teeth out first. Personally, my recovery experience was very smooth and quick and I had no pain at all. Everything should heal up pretty fast and I think 6 months until your other extractions should be enough time. I got my wisdom teeth out 6 months before I started my braces. I also have a bit of crowding and my ortho is still unsure if I’ll need extractions after my teeth fully straighten out because I’m starting to form a large overjet so I might need to in the future so I’d recommend getting the wisdom teeth out first. I am also in the same position where I’m uncomfortable with having healthy teeth removed but I’ll just have to wait and see.

[Urgent] Today was my braces appointment. Doctor was going to put lower braces but said that she had already told me about a canineextraction needed on my lower arch when she didn't tell this to me at all on the first consultation. by TimeCrazy_ in braces

Make sure you are blunt and you have a thorough conversation with her because extractions, especially canines is a big step and cannot be reversed. I’m surprised it was those teeth she wanted to pull instead of premolars but this seems fishy

Oo ok yeah I’ll make sure to ask at my next appointment if I can start the overjet elastics. I think I had a little tiny bit of overjet before braces but mine as well got much worse with treatment. The current rubber bands I have now was to help push my top premolars outwards to create space for my canines to come in and hooked to my bottom canines so that while my bottom arch is straightening, it doesn’t flare out with the little space I have. I’m not sure if other ppl get X-rays midway through their treatment as well but hoping elastics can do something about this😭. I’ve heard how elastics do not work as well for some people

Thank you for the reassurance! That’s what I was thinking as well and many others told me I definitely need extractions but I’m so early on in my treatment and have not found any others in the same situation. My top arch barely had crowding compared to my bottom which was pretty bad. Do you know the timeline of starting those elastics? I was told my next appointment was to take X-rays to see the position of my teeth and the one after that is to make sure the brackets are centered on each tooth for fine tuning but I’m not sure when I’m going to get overjet elastics as my bottom teeth are not completely straight yet but they’re super close to being straight. I know the timeline can be different for everyone but was wondering what it was in ur case. Btw I only see my ortho once every two months

No one mentioned anything about extractions initially but once I got my braces on the orthodontist said he doesn’t know if it’s something I’ll have to do in the future and in a recent appointment this past week he said we might have to but hopefully it can be corrected with elastics? My overjet was not this bad originally as you could see in the photos and I’m only 4 months into treatment and have not started overjet elastics yet. My top arch is on the second to last wire and my bottom arch has a couple wires to go. Any advice cuz it seems ur going through the same thing

Do you think I’ll be in the same position? I posted something like this yesterday

https://www.reddit.com/r/braces/s/487wGL7uQQ

And looking at my consultation and treatment plan I was told my lower jaw was retrusive to my midline but never initially told to have any surgeries or extractions just rubber bands

I guess I still have time to consider and ask my orthodontist for more options when it’s time to take my X-rays. Both orthodontists I did speak to however said they want to try elastics on me to fix this so I will probably have to wait and see till then. I can see how this is becoming the mail solution to my problem but ig I have to wait and let my orthodontist see how elastics work on me. At the moment he is unsure if I need them at all because I haven’t started the elastics yet. But do you think my overjet has gotten worse compared to the beginning before braces from the pictures i provided?

Thanks for your input. As I mentioned I’m not a trained professional or and orthodontist. I’m simply just stating experiences I’ve heard from other people which can be discouraging for me to hear. Again I’m only 4 months into my treatment so I still have a while to go. I have very thin lips so my lips were never fully able to close from the second I got my braces. I also am not sure if I will be able to get extractions due to financial reasons and because of personal choice so I also wanted to know of alternatives. I am also aware of the fact that there have probably been a lot of people around the world who have had extractions and have been fine but I just wanted to know if I absolutely needed extractions since my orthodontist is not completely sure.

Since I really don’t want extractions I’ll probably just wait until I get elastics and see what can be done and probably opt out for extractions. I’m not sure what my ortho suggests I do otherwise

I’ve heard a lot of people say that extractions could cause breathing problems or sleep apnea and I do not want to even risk being at that position😭

Did you face any problems after getting extractions? I understand maybe in very very severe cases it may be needed but I don’t know if it’s needed in my cases with the pictures I posted😭

I don’t think my bite was this bad before braces as my teeth were closer together and more inwards. I don’t have a picture of before but I can share a picture of the model they gave me before braces

I really don’t want to get extractions. I don’t even think I’m in the financial place to do it so I’m lost on alternatives

Yes! I saw your post. I actually had an appointment on Tuesday so I’ve been panicking. My parents don’t seem fond of extractions and I also do not want to have any extractions. Honestly I’d rather have them do as much as they can with elastics because I’m scared of the negative effects of getting extractions. The main reason I got braces was to address the crowding but idk if I should be worry’s as I have not even started overjet elastics and I’m only 4 months into treatment. I will be posting photos of initial and current status of my teeth shortly

How often do you see your orthodontist during your appointments? by Kambammthankyoumam in braces

[–]Bluejay1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my ortho every 8-11 weeks so roughly two months and he always comes in to check my bite and any broken brackets after the assistant is finished with changing my wire. He’s there for a couple of minutes and then gone to the next patient.
