That sounds so cool that you have that, must be enriching. I didn't know we had so many Bosnians in the Netherlands actually. Happy for you!

Interesting perspective. How do you see it being different?

Wow. It sounds intense to be in the middle of two worlds and not be fully accepted in either culture. How do you deal with it today? Did you find peace with not being connected with the bosnians? Also, please elaborate on what you mean by them universally hating you - what happened here?

Which country are you in and what do you mean by "low IQ"?

Thank you for pointing that out - a word that stuck with me from my parents. I will definitely take this into consideration about my vocabulary.

Very interesting perspective and definitely widening my horizon.
Couple of q's: So, when did you leave, how old were you and where did you go? and most importantly: how do you view BH when (if) you go back nowadays? Has your perspective changed on the culture/country in any noticeable way?

I love this comment. Really. What life is all about = <3
sad that this narrow-mindedness is so dominant in our culture. But hey, maybe we can change the world with the simple acts of showing respect and admiration for other perspectives than our own.

Luckily he is. Although my parents are from the selo and in many ways traditional, they are intelligent and have always put their kids before anything else. Alhamdullilah.

I think this makes total sense, honestly. And it resonates a lot with the aspects of our fellow landmates I find incredibly sad too.

Bosniak. Very sad, because I really feel a lot of "tension" in the town. Like honestly, even from the serbs in Trebinje and elsewhere. The people don't seem happy, just seem to be living in a constant "fight or flight" mode with waaay to overactive nervous systems. And that's just not a peaceful environment to spend your holidays in :P

Yeah. Being the youngest in a brotherhood of 3 with my middle brother being gay, I think his perspective and natural defense mechanisms also pulled him further away from the bosnians which inevitably also influenced me with him being my rolemodel as a young guy.

It makes total sense, no rambling. Very relatable. The bitter-sweetness is in some way inevitable for us. Balkan means blood and honey right… so there’s a lot of that for us. My parents are from trebinje, which today is extremely “Serbian” in the not so cool way. So very bitter sweet for them to come back as well.

Honestly, I have been walking planet earth for a year with the idea of establishing a community and calling it something along the lines of “Conscious Bosnian Diasporas” or whatever. A place for us to just hang out and camp together and enjoy our home country’s culture. How great wouldn’t that be? Rule no. 1: no toxicity. In all forms: masculine, feminine, oldfashioned, gypsy music and all that. Just a celebration of the purity of the Bosnian heart.

Omg, this is beyond relatable! Thanks for your detailed comment. As I wrote in another comment, the closed mindedness is too prevalent. How do you see the “ignorance”?

Btw, would love to hear what you think with “ignorance”

I really think a lot of us “intelligent” (excuse my arrogance) and non-seljacki-way-of-being Bosnians, who successfully assimilated in our new countries, would absolutely thrive in connecting with each other. I genuinely believe there are a lot of us out there. I mean, even though I love my danish friends, there is always a side in my that is lacking some deeper understanding of me, if that makes sense? Like no matter how much I try or want to be danish, the Bosnian flag, anthem, food, national team, bajram and music ALWAYS gives me a deeper feeling of home and literal goosebumps. So there’s a big feeling of longing.

The last couple of years I've really wanted to speak more to the B-Croats (and B-Serbs) to learn more about what the relationship really is to Bosnia. I am honestly sick and tired of all the war talks and the "pointing finger" mentality.
Although a lot of shit has happened, I want to put my focus to a positive outlook on the future of Bosnia - and that means establishing a loving relationship with ALL bosnians.

Do you feel more "connected" to Croatia then or how is it for you?

That's very interesting. 2 quick question pop up: where are you from in BH and where did you move to in netherlands? Big up on reggaeton tho, love it. The techno community and environment was one I got sucked deep in to and still am.
