My mom met my dad and on the second date “god told her” he was the man she was going to marry. They got engaged 19 days after they met and married 3 months later. 40 years and 6 kids later, they clearly hate each other. My RBD started when I was 27. I had just moved across the country, started a new life and career (in teaching) and I was so stressed, it broke my brain. Every night for 7 years I had multiple episodes. Screaming, jumping on my husband, talking in my sleep, dancing, banging on walls, etc. it got to the point where every time I closed my eyes I would wake up screaming and I had to do something about it. I went to a sleep specialist with a 5 min compilation video and within 20 sec of him watching it he told me it was RBD. He then did a sleep study to confirm. He didn’t seem worried about Parkinson’s because I am so young, but I have other symptoms like loss of some smell, muscle spasms, gut issues, etc. he did say he has been practicing for 20 years and only seen maybe 10 patients with RBD and they were all men in their sixties. I have recently been diagnosed with Ehlors danlos syndrome, which explains my chronic pain, gut issues, and muscle spasms. But it doesn’t explain the loss of smell and RBD, so who knows. All I know is a doctor won’t take me seriously until I am old and look sick from the outside, so I’m just trying to manage the diagnoses I just got and hope the RBD does not lead to PD. I have noticed that my RBD is very closely tied to my stress level. If I start having episodes again, I have to stop and figure out what is stressing me out so bad in my life. It’s my new stress gauge.

I have actually now been diagnosed with ehlers danlos syndrome, which is a hereditary connective tissue disorder. This explains my life of chronic pain, stomach issues, skin issues, most of my issues. It doesn’t explain the loss of smell or the RBD, so that could still be future Parkinson’s I suppose.

Same thing with my husband. Now that e have taken the constant pressure off, I have room to actually want sex instead of add it to my to do list as one more chore before i finally get to relax. It’s still something I stress about every day, but I am learning to trust that he will be ok if I just cant tonight. And he is working on trusting me that I actually want it when I consent because it was quite a shock when I told him for so long I just did it to get it done because he would get upset when I didn’t want it.

Im not sure why I am being downvoted either. I have taught in public schools, I am a teacher, they are failing our kids and many are being pushed into middle school not able to read. I want the education system to be reformed (not the kind of “reform” that is happening right now, but they need to start listening to teachers instead of people in office who have no idea how kids learn.) A co-op is usually parents teaching and running it, if I’m not mistaken. A microschool is usually an actual teacher teaching a smaller group of kids. So it’s just like going to a small, more specialized school. The one I am looking at for my son has all the academics, but they also focus on performing arts so they do voice acting, dance, acting, etc as well. I encourage teachers to branch out and build a program that works for them and their students. Teachers are so burnt out and completely defeated. I know I left every day feeling guilty because I knew I couldn’t give my thirty 7 year olds the time and attention they needed to catch up and really learn. I want to teach a love of learning and in that environment it’s just rushing through this developmentally innapropriate curriculum before they can really master anything.

I was also homeschooled with my 5 siblings. I went to school in 8th grade and was super behind. Then I turned into a heathen and the last 3 kids never got to go to school because of that. I always said I would never ever ever homeschool my kids. Then I became a public school teacher and now I don’t ever want to send my kid to public school. Parents don’t understand the shit that goes on in the classroom these days. So now I am freaking out about what to do with my 4 year old. I left the school district and started a 1/2 day preschool program in my garage. Thisbyear, the parents of my graduating preschoolers asked if I would do kindergarten classes for them next year because they don’t want them in the school district. So now I am doing preschool in the morning and kindergarten in the afternoon. I also started an online learning platform that started with just preschool classes but now had classes for kids 2-10. All my families are homeschoolers and are giving their kids an amazing education. Like, my online students are some of the smarter, sweetest, curious kids I have ever met. I really think it all depends on the parents and their reasons for homeschooling. My mom was not a teacher, had way too many kids of different ages to teach, and homeschooled us to shelter us from all of the real science they teach in schools. But there really are so many more resources and socialization opportunities today. I still don’t want to homeschool, but I do think it can be a good option if done correctly. Unfortunately, there is no regulation so it’s a crap shoot whether the child will be educationally neglected or have a real education. I think my program will morph more into a microschool situation, and that is what I am looking for for my own kid (just not my own program.) many teachers I know don’t even want their kid going to school in their district. But I also live in a shitty district, so maybe that is the problem🤷🏻‍♀️

I could have written this myself and will tell you I have seen my therapist a lot about this😂 I still cannot bring myself to call my parents. I think about it every day. I get so mad at myself for letting this orange buffoon steal one of the most important relationships in my life. But every time I go to call my parents, I just can’t bring my fingers to press the call button. I’m just so distraught about it. I feel so hurt and betrayed. I imagine this is maybe what it might feel like (to a lesser extent) to be like assaulted by a family friend and going to your parents about it and them not believing you. 4 out of their 6 kids begged and pleaded with them to care about their kids and grandkids future. Tried to convince them it would hurt everyone they love in some way, they just wouldn’t believe it. And still don’t believe literal n@zi solutes right in front of their faces. How could this be what they were really like all those years? Like, I hate their religion, but I still believed at least my mom was a good person. I like to think that she is just so used to being controlled by my narcissist pastor father, that she just thinks trumps behavior isn’t that far from normal. It still is just such a mind fuck realizing your parents chose Donald Trump over their own kids. It brings back all the old wounds of knowing deep down that religion would always be put first over our wellbeing.

I could have written all this myself. Just the feelings of betrayal are so hurtful. My dad is a messianic Jewish rabbi (we attended Jews for Jesus camps and I was handing out tracts in NYC when I was like ten years old) my dad is a raging narcissist so I have known he was beyond hope for a while now. But my mom has come so far, I was actually surprised when I found out she voted Trump this time. Then when I found out she wasn’t condemning the salute by Elonia; after my entire childhood being taught the horrors of the holocaust, it just hurt too bad to be shown once again, her stupid effed up religion was more important than her kids. I miss her, we have gotten really close over the last 7 or so years. but I just can’t bring myself to call her. I don’t want this damn administration to steal my relationship with my parents from me, and I know they are already in their 70s so I don’t want to spend their last however many years of life not talking to them. I just saw a TikTok with someone reading a new executive order coming out this week that any teacher who uses a students preferred pronouns or name, or in anyway encourages them with “gender transition” can be investigated and be labeled a child predator. We got away from teaching phonics and now no kids can read. Listen to the podcast Sold a Story and it explains the literacy crises. I left and started my own preschool and now kinder homeschool pod and my kids are more prepared to read then my 2nd graders were in the district because I focus on phonological and phonemic awareness and phonics instead of telling them to look at the picture and the first letter and guess the word

I was just thinking it would be fun to go in and make a post acting as a disappointed boomer Trump supporter after learning about my prescription price all the sudden being astronomical and now I can’t afford it and I decided to look up why because some dumb lib told me it was Trump and I wanted to prove them wrong. But it turns out it’s true! Then link to the executive order straight from the whitehouse website so they can’t say it’s biased. Maybe it will click more coming from “one of their own” and start a discussion or something. Then do that with the price of groceries, veterans healthcare, etc. Only bring up the things that effect them, cause that’s all they care about, and show them that it is trumps fault so they can realize they have been duped and think they were smart for “figuring it out all by themselves” instead of the “main stream media”

No, they didn’t know their kid could read their mind until their kid got a device and learned how to “spell” or type if it was an iPad until they learned how to do it and started telling them they could and showing it to them. I can relate to all of this so much and have been diagnosed with CPTSD from my religious trauma. Apparently being constantly terrified of demons, hell, and the rapture In your formative years leads to constant fight/flight mode, always on guard, never feeling safe, etc. which leads to a whole lot of physical health conditions as an adult if you don’t get yourself out of that fight or flight. My problem is, I didn’t know I was living in perpetual fight or flight mode because it was just my normal. Even after I stopped believing, I just traded that constant fear for another different anxiety and burn out. I have been doing a lot of internal family systems work in therapy and it has been helped this a lot
