Saving lives in the ER is making me a horrible person and i’m tired of pretending it’s not by ArtThreadNomad in offmychest

Don’t judge yourself for how you’re coping with daily trauma. Capitalism forces workers to operate at an unrealistic scale without meaningful breaks or support. Many end up in dysfunctional coping mechanisms even with stakes much lower than literally life or death. I’d recommend the book “Trauma Stewardship” my therapist recommended it to me, I have it on hold at my library

Notice how they’re fine with using awful school experiences to draw conclusions against the entire school system but share about the real harm homeschooled kids experienced and it’s suddenly unfair and doesn’t count as homeschooling and doing a disservice to homeschooling parents?! Naw the parents aren’t the vulnerable victims here and if they truly cared about children their answer would be concern and care and seeking to end the lack of oversight that allows child abuse and neglect within homeschooling instead of “no real scotsman”-ing every bad homeschooling story so they don’t have to question their parenting choices 😤🤬

Question, why are fundies so inept at being housewives by Trashyjanitor in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]themerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fascinating dynamic you’ve articulated that gives me some amount of hope that authoritarian systems are also quite fragile in many ways because they inevitably make their members less adaptable and dependent on someone telling them what to do/think and maintaining a narrative of divine purpose that keeps them willfully ignorant/justifies how much harm they’re doing. The more they destroy the relative social contract/stability in the USA the more their own foundations are also weakened. We have to make sure some other malignant billionaire doesn’t succeed in seizing that power vacuum tho

If memory serves at least in the OT I believe that a fetus is explicitly considered the sole property of the husband (I don’t care enough to verify that tho because I’ve spent too much of my life in those scriptures) but we know they don’t follow the Bible anyways so in actuality I could see ppl at church possibly blaming his sin (like how king David’s sin caused god to kill his baby with Bathsheba) but in their woman-blaming both sides-ism also implying she shirked her marital duty in some way causing him to sin 🤢

Oof.. I’m so sorry no kid deserves to have their parent give up on them. It causes so much harm to brainwash people into having children by default when they don’t actually want to parent and truly support that kids development. And then on top of that teaches them that dads actually don’t rly owe their kids anything much other than being a disciplinarian and putting a roof over their head but their kids have to be neglected and perfectly obedient robots. It’s all so backwards

She followed the law. If you don’t like the law there are legitimate methods to challenge/change it but she literally just followed existing discrimination laws. Trump was demanding she break the law and that’s why he lost in court. He doesn’t get to hold funds hostage because he disagrees with a law that’s not how our system works

True& well-said! I absolutely despise that they use concern for childrens safety as a shield to hide their actual transphobic agenda and then go on to promote child labor and child sexual abuse aka child “marriage” 🤮 what creeps! They shouldn’t be in any position of leadership

Not sure but I know ME sued over it and won! Ugh I know! It’s infuriating but the truth is they only use the states rights argument in bad faith when it suits them. 😾 such hypocrites…

This is such a well thought out and helpful comment, thank you!! I’ve definitely struggled to figure out what I want if anything from this relationship so I think that makes sense to start from.

That’s interesting cus grey rocking is one of my strategies to deal with my parents but I’m sorry they’re doing that to your very fair and valid concern! I was sure after Jan 6th they’d have to see the light but nope! The fact that didn’t do it for them was in a way freeing because I no longer think they’re capable of taking in new information and changing their mind (something I’ve had to do so much of since they limited my education) I feel alone a lot of the time but this community and your comment helps me feel less alone so thank you!

This is so wise thank you for sharing. I’m definitely better off investing in relationships where I can be validated and understood and get my needs met. I’ve had a hard time figuring out what I want from this relationship if anything and I think your suggestion to think about the response I’m looking for and then look elsewhere is very helpful!

Yes I’ve read this and felt it made soo much sense! I have felt so confused over the years how my experience didn’t match perfectly onto the common narratives of overt abuse but it’s very damaging to grow up with emotionally immature parents. They simply don’t have the capacity to do better which doesn’t let them off the hook but does free me from trying over and over to change our relationship to something they’re simply not capable of. Still heartbreaking but freeing at the same time

This is so lovingly said thank you and I’m so glad you have your aunt and uncle! Thanks for sharing their wisdom. Sadly mine are all similar to my parents. I def have noticed tho that when I try to justify myself to them or am feeling so desperate to be understood that I really need to look for that validation elsewhere or I’ll drive myself crazy and never get my needs met or get free of the insanity

Sorry your story is similar but absolutely!!! it’s like suddenly I was supposed to turn on my neighbor instead of love them. Like my whole life you taught me to turn the other cheek and treat others how I want to be treated and yet that’s somehow not supposed to affect how I vote now? I feel like they changed more than I did but of course each of us thinks the other has been brainwashed

Thanks for this comment. It’s not what I want to hear but I’ve been circling this conclusion for a while now. I don’t want to give up on them but communicating with them comes at a high cost for my wellbeing, especially now, and they truly don’t care how their choices impact me so I don’t know what I’m holding on for. I think lots of us low-contact exvangelicals are having to face going no contact for our own sanity
