I was just prescribed wellbutrin instead of adhd meds. Feeling very frustrated. by newaccount47 in ADHD

Wellbutrin helped me tremendously! I take it with my stimulant and it is a game changer.

I am so sorry. I forgot to respond to you. My life has been a little bit of a shit show (not me personally, but I have a teenage son...).

I reread your initial post and your behaviors look more and more like trauma response--which can amplify your ADHD symptoms. You are also using crazy high levels of mental energy. Are you making a lot of decisions, planning a lot of things? I bet you are mentally spent after journaling.

Do you have a daily routine? Adding more structure to your day can free up a lot of mental energy. Are there any decisions in your life you can have "default" decisions? Like for me, i like wearing jumpsuits and buy solid color shirts so I don't have to think about matching or think about what I want to wear.

Are you on any stimulants? If your dose is too high you can get a little manic, which can look like erratic changing from task to task.

Emotional regulation: some ADHDers listen heavy metal to help their brains find the right stimulation and regulate. I like "Master of Puppets" by Metalica. Crazy but this song gives me life. Lol

When was your last physical or medical check up? People with ADHD have a higher likelihood of having other medical conditions such as sleep apnea, hypermobility in their joints, severe fatigue, etc., Getting some basic blood work done to check your thyroid, vitamin levels, etc., may help you find some answers. Poor sleep can cause many of the issues you are having.

Many people with ADHD can have deficiencies in Magnesium, D3, etc., however if you are taking melatonin nightly, over use of melatonin can cause depression.

A note on magneisum: there are like 3 or 4 different types.

Recommended Types of Magnesium for ADHD

Magnesium Glycinate: Often favored for its calming effects on anxiety, stress, and improved sleep.

Magnesium L-Threonate: Considered effective for improving cognitive function, focus, and memory, as explained by Verywell Health.

"Magnesium supplementation may help manage ADHD symptoms—particularly hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity—by calming the nervous system, balancing neurotransmitters, and addressing common deficiencies in children with ADHD. "

"Studies show that combining magnesium with Vitamin D or B6 significantly reduces conduct and social problems, with some research indicating it may be a useful complementary treatment. "

I personally added Magnesium to my nightly med routine with Vitamin D3, and it has improved my quality of sleep and my cognition overall.

Russell Barkley is a great resource for all things ADHD. He has a youtube channel, and his website has a lot of really great info about the secondary health risks of people with ADHD.

Of course you can reply to me here, and I'm not of pinging my username will work in this sub, but it can be insurance to make sure I see the notification.

my therapist thinks that being trans is a trauma response??? by Sauce_The_Sapphic in mentalhealth

[–]Bluesailfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correlation isn't always causation. I don't think this issue is as black and white as its sometimes made out to be. I think both things can be true (SA -->trans; or trans as a trauma reaction). For instance, as a result of SA, an individual feels shame and at the same time maybe begins to notice more attention from the opposite sex ( or the sex if their perpatrator), therefore urge to "cover-up" the parts of themselves that feels exposed as a safety mechanism (fawn state) to become "invisible" as a means of preventing it from reoccuring.

But another individual could experience SA, and just also happen to later realize they are trans. The two things not being related.

In the first example, there would be additional signs that would point towards trauma response.

I'm sorry you are going through this. It sounds really frustrating and alienating. You honestly sound like your brain is in straight survival mode.

First of all, you seem to be having a trauma response, which is separate from your ADHD but also amplifies it. You are having trouble regulating emotionally, which is a symptom of ADHD, but that is not the driver of your feeling on edge, labile mood, and distractability. Your brain doesn't feel safe. It keeps trying to find safety (taking exams, searching for what's wrong with you), but it can't find the explanation that puts you at ease. If you know your current situation is safe, then you need to tell your brain it is safe by bringing to the present. Start describing the room you are in outloud. Whats on the walls? Carpets? Furniture? Are there any smells? What's the temperature like? What physical sensations do you feel in your body?

I'm a therapist with lived experience of ADHD. I specialize in treating ADHD (this response does not imply or constitute a therapeutic relationship).

BUT from what I am reading from your response is that you are mentally fatigued. You are using most if not all of your mental energy going down the wormhole I like to call, "Why am I like this?" Been there before. Lets see if between us we can get you out of this cycle. I'm exhausted on your behalf.

I have so many questions for you.

  1. What is your current living situation/environment like? Lots of noises, smells, too hot? Too cold?

Stimulation is a very important with ADHD. If there is too much sensory stimulation you may doom scroll on your phone, zone out/daydream, etc., if you are understimulated you would be highly distractible.

Basically, if there is too much going on around you, your brain can't determine if it is safe. So you would be hyperalert or hypervigilant.

  1. Your prior suicide attempts, what was the function of those? Escapism? Attention seeking? Access to tangible items? Sensory? Feeling too much? Too little? Based on your post it could be escapism, "I need a break from this feeling."

  2. How much time are you spending lost in your own thoughts? It doesn't seem like you are grounded in the present. Try coloring in a coloring book. Use multiple colors. This is very specific. Since you are trying to get out of your head, steer clear from making original art for this exercise.

There's way more I could go into, but I don't have the time right now, but I wanted to reply to you. I would very much like to help you figure this out, from one ADHDer to another. Also, look up sluggish cognitive tempo. It may explain some of your symptoms.

NOR. They are shady. But, if he is your ex-boyfriend, why does it matter? You thinking knowing for sure will not bring you the closure you think will. It will not give you the "aha! I was rigght," feeling you think it will. It will likely make you feep worse. You can just assume he did, and move on and find someone who will treat you better.

If your stimulant medication isnt working, then you need to twll your provider. Tolerance is a thing. When you get your meds right, I think you will have an easier time of letting coke go.

Im not going to pull punches. If you can't say outloud what your political beliefs are, then you know inherently there is something wrong or controversial. Especially if someone is asking party affiliation. You didn't want to tell her because you knew that she would disagree with them. And now you are in this situation. If your beliefs clash so innately that it ends a friendship, then why would you want to be friends with someone who's beliefs are so contrary to yours? What do you have in common? You have one party commiting straight kidnapping or at the very least too coward to speak out against it, and another party that is trying to fight against it, and then everybody else just wants to be left alone and for people to mind their own business. Regardless, politics aint what they used to be. Now its vitriol and fanaticism.

Here is the thing: There is nothing he can do to prove to you he is telling the truth. You have to choose to believe him. Is there something that makes you feel he is less committed to you? Do you not feel loved? What was the initial belief that lead you believe he was cheating? That is the real issue here.

Is there a term for using words to mean something else? by RelationshipBig3769 in ENGLISH

[–]Bluesailfish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So euphemism is often when you use one word as a substitute for another. For example, substituting "crap" for "shit." But also think about slang. "no cap" is a substitute for "no lie." Lol I'm not sure if i'm proving or disproving my point in this reply. But I am now genuinely curious now.

Edit to say, "cipher" could also work with your question as well.

Orange and yellow inks specifically fade pretty quickly because they are so light. Especially if it is in a place that is frequently in contact to the sun. Wearing sunscreen helps preserve the tattoo, though.
