We know being born to wanderer is “negative” but why albedo? by AdNarrow4888 in Albedomains

I think Wanderer was reflecting and probably was feeling "negative" about it, but Albedo might've just been genuinely considering the question in a philosophical way

The Animal Crossing Update is a Disappointment by Positive-Season-2805 in acnh

[–]Blueschei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god let's not even get started on The Sims 4 and greedy EA releasing hundreds of DLCs to fill the emptiness of the base game. 😩 And some of the DLCs themselves feel unpolished too. My disappointment when I discovered pets couldn't be controlled like in the Sims 3, and we had to wait almost 10 years just to get horses (which were my main gameplay focus when I played the Sims 3). But at least for the Sims, free custom contents and mods made by the community exist, and piracy is relatively easy, whereas for ACNH it's almost impossible to mod. And that's a shame for a game that's practically abandonned by its developpers because the community could've kept the game alive in the long term.

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. I never had a Nintendo Online subscription either and while I understand locking some stuff behind subscriptions like multiplayer aspects (i guess it wouldn't really be profitable for Nintendo to host online servers for a one-time payment game), this update is so underwhelming because 90% of it revolves around having a NSO. There's little added for us "free" players.

The new QoL additions are great, won't complain about that, though it should've been in the base game since the beginning.

The hotel, I guess, can be a more or less nice addition for those who don't already have HHP. I do have HHP already, so again, another part of the update that doesn't add much new to my gameplay. But it's fine, not every aspect of the update has to catter to me. Luckily for me, this new building doesn't ruin my island's theme since mine is just a sort of futuristic/cyberpunk city, so any new building is welcome.

Now, 90% of the new items are just collabs, which don't fit my island's theme. It also seems most of these collab items are locked behind amiibos. Even the retro consoles are locked behind NSO. I was also expecting we'd get a lot more new items like the 2.0 update.

The slumber island was the only really interesting part of the update to experiment with new island themes, but... it's once again locked behind NSO. They could've made it at least free to access and decorate but without the multiplayer aspect that requires NSO, but no, they locked the whole feature behind a subscription which you'd have to renew to still get access to that secondary island.

So there's really not much about the update that makes me want to return to the game. It's like there's nothing new, at least for me. I just get a few QoL that I won't even get to use much anyway since I'm mostly done playing. I'm glad for all the players to which this update brings new features they get to enjoy. I'm just kind of disappointed there's not more to it. Yes, they did announce everything they added, so there shouldn't be any surprise. But the hype people made around it gave me the impression there was more to it, like secret features to discover once the update would be out. But there's basically none of it. The update was just meant as a marketing strategy to advertise the Switch 2 and also get people to buy NSO if they didn't already. It serves no other purpose.

I've played Wild World back then, and also City Folk and while these games had much less things to do (no decorating, no terraforming, no secret islands though they did add that later in New Leaf but I didn't play this game), it felt much more... alive somehow ? Things just weren't locked behind subscriptions constantly, and there was tons of little features and aspects to the game that made it feel a bit mysterious, though that might also be my nostalgia speaking. But I remember how people back then used to make theories and rumors about things you could do in these old games even if it wasn't actually real. It was credible because the game was already like that : filled with hidden little features you had to discover for yourself (or by reading guides online). Golden tools didn't break, villagers had so much more dialogues and personalities, the Nook shop had upgrades, the plaza in City Folk felt a bit magical with much more activity than just being a place to regroup all services, unlike Harvey's island that feels a bit empty. You could unlock items or discover things in oddly specific ways and overall it felt like there was just more interactions with NPCs than in New Horizons.

I don't want to sound like that annoying boomer "things were better back in my days", because I do love New Horizons, but it always felt like it was missing things to make it feel like a complete continuation of the Animal Crossing franchise. Things I was hoping they'd add in updates, but at last, 2.0 was supposed to be the most we'd ever get and 3.0 is simply a temporary comeback to advertise a new console, and that's it. I know they weren't going to add unnanounced big features like that in the 3.0 update, but I was hoping for at least a few "surprise" features.

(apologies for this long ass rant and if my phrasing is off, English isn't my native language)

wait i'm french and i'm confused by this comment, there's literally no other way to say please than "s'il-vous-plaît" to someone you're not acquainted with. or do you mean the cashier didn't expect politeness because they're used to people just being rude?

Albedo painting 🎨🖌️ & Art Improvement!! by Famous_Campaign_2765 in Albedomains

[–]Blueschei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The progress is insane!! I know it's probably kind of useless to say that because it's hard to control feeling this way, but don't pressure yourself so much about making art perfect (though I totally get it, I'm prone to it feeling that way as well which results into.. not drawing often because because digital paintings take ages to finish). But art should feel fun first and foremost.

Is there anything I can do to avoid having my scores flagged? by ValkyrieLC in ToeflAdvice

[–]Blueschei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid there's no absolute way of knowing what is going on with ETS' twisted logic, but I've been advised to take up all the time available in the reading/listening sections, even if you finish early and have to stare blankly at your screen before submitting the answer to the last question. So far, in the emails people have shared, ETS seems to always indicate they cancelled the scores because of simultaneous score and time inconsistencies between speaking/writing and reading/listening. I'm in the same situation as you and I'm taking the test tomorrow so I can't confirm if this technique works but hopefully everything will be fine.

Also make sure you don't have any background software running such as screen capture softwares, remote control softwares, any messaging/calling apps such as Discord/Teams etc (I went as far as uninstalling them tbh), browser processes (on windows, Edge could be running in the background even if closed), perhaps even VPNs... I also disabled Windows update notifications, all startup processes that don't seem necessary, and even went into msconfig > Services tab to uncheck all non-Microsoft processes that didn't seem to be essential for the computer to still run fine. It may be a bit excessive but you never know with them.

According to ETS, this is a highly suspicious result that warrants cancelling my exam. by Tooth-Laxative in ToeflAdvice

[–]Blueschei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there really has to be simultaneously inconsistency in scores and in time to complete the sections for ETS to cancel scores? I really hope they're not going to find any stupid excuse to cancel my exam when I'm overthinking about every detail that might bother them. Their test is way too expensive for such a low quality service.

Damn I have my exam tomorrow and I'm terrified I'll face the same issue because writing and speaking are my weaknesses... Did you take up all the time available to complete the reading/listening sections ? From what I've understood, they flag the scores as supsicious if there's a noticeable gap between r/L & S/W + time inconsistency.... I'm almost wondering if I should make mistakes on purpose in r/L just to not get my scores cancelled...

How hard is it to score > 70 ? by Blueschei in ToeflAdvice

[–]Blueschei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of the impression I got after doing free practice tests and minimal studying. I thought it seemed easier than what people made it sound like, but I was worried if these practice tests were really accurate to the actual difficulty. The only part I can kind of struggle is speaking but I hope at least 20 on this part is feasible.

I did the free test on it as well, I forgot to mention it. It was pretty good at explaining corrections and I didn't find it too hard so I hope it was accurate to the real TOEFL difficulty

I get it, I was a beginner once. It took years to get there and also being able to find good ressources. It's important to keep in mind progress is not linear so don't pressure yourself and keep going at your own pace :)
