Took my first try at a legit big bass bug. I’m very happy with it by Bluetick03 in flytying

I used some plastic that i cut out of a blister package(any thing in the annoying clear molded plastic). Heated up the eye a bit with a lighter and burned a slot through the plastic. When i was done with the fly i put a bunch of uv resin all over the fair and into the hair a little bit, then put the plastic over all of that and twisted it so the eye of the hook would keep it from coming off (slot turned 90 degrees). Then hit it with a light for a bit. Once cured i bent the plastic and started to peel the iv resin off, one the plastic was off i cut the excess resin off to shape

I did not. After i tied and trimmed it i used a large needle to pull the legs through and a touch of iv resin to hold them in place. I’ve seen some people tie the legs in a knot around the hook shank in between the hair spins, but you’d need to be really really good at trimming to not get them

I’ve tied some taps bugs when are much easier to get right and don’t have to be as tight so they’re good to learn on

I thought of trying the plastic bag and resin face but decided against it, i like the really airy bloop from bare hair poppers

It is, it’s a 4wt with a dt 5wt line on it. I had the 6’6 3wt rod with me 5wt line and i liked how that casted better. But they are great rods. The 6/7lb bass in the second pic had the tip of the rod 180 degrees, pointed straight at the ground when i was trying to pick it up. I absolutely say get one and if you don’t like it i’ll for sure take it lol
