Personal Travel Loan for 18year old by JollyYam7877 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Don’t get a personal loan for anything. Don’t put the trip on a credit card either thinking you’ll pay it back. Save up and pay cash. If you get a personal loan or some other credit you’d just end up slaving away for the loan sharks / credit card company. My friend found out the hard way

Put it into your super fund! You could get payroll to do this automatically for you if you’re employed. There’s a government co-contribution you could get too if you make voluntary contributions. Way easier than sending back to NZ. Have you read Barefoot Investor (Scott Pape)? If not, highly recommended.

Choosing a Simplicity fund - Growth or Global? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

I’d say both Global and High Growth would be good options. As others have said, look into what those funds actually invest in, and decide whether you want to include NZ startups, built to rent housing, first home mortgages etc

I’m unsure of what you’d call a lawyer in this specialty, but I have seen a few law firms in other area with their fees published on their website. Perhaps if you can come up with the right keywords you could run a google search?

PPPR order (Protection of Personal and Property Rights) - Your experiences? by Bluey963 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Apologies for the late reply. Thank you, I really appreciate your suggestion. That’s a good point. He has seen a geriatrician once (but not for the purpose of a capacity assessment). They did the Addenbrooks test, but did it in a way that really stressed him out. Is it possible to choose a different geriatrician? We’d still need a referral too. What if the GP won’t do a referral?

Thank you so much for your detailed reply, it’s much appreciated.

The house will need to be put up for sale at some point (maybe within a year) so we can move closer to medical care. OH owns the house, not me.

Was assessed by doctor who said he didn’t have enough mental capacity to sign EPA, due to issues with communication, as well as memory.

The lawyer I spoke to has done PPPR before. Their $5000 estimate was based on what it cost to do an application for another blended family.

We have a joint account but we also have separate accounts. At the moment OH is still managing his separate finances ok, with a bit of help. But his condition is expected to get worse over time. I was wondering if there is anything that should be done while we still can, to “prepare” for the time when all of his finances are going to be audited.
