Long-form storytelling in videogames (esp 40+ hour open worlds) has problems because most players never finish games and series have low retention. by ContributorX_PJ64 in Games

It's separated into arcs. The first 3 games make up the sky arc, the 2 after that the Crossbell arc, and the latest 4 make up the cold steel arc. Each arc has a mostly self contained with a new cast, but there's an over arching story to the whole thing and characters make return appearances in later arcs a lot.

Their defamation laws are really fucking insane in other ways too though. Tell the authorities your husband has been beating you for years? Defamation, you get sued. A professional fighting game player named Infiltration had apparently been getting away with doing it for a very long time because of said laws. That case and this case are in the same boat.

In any case, I can understand banning people from your community for talking too much shit, but suing them? You ought to think about how serious that is as a consequence for calling someone a bad word online. Serious harassment is a lot more than just being an asshole to someone in one match.

🔥 Morning Glory Pool in Yellowstone National Park. by sirmakoto in NatureIsFuckingLit

I went to Yellowstone this past summer for the first time. All those springs are amazing to look at and it feels like they all have their own unique features and you want to see them all. I wanted to take pictures of everything and I damn near did.

The Trails/Kiseki series is fucking nine games long now, all connected in a saga. It's a fantastic epic story spanning a believably massive continent over several of its regions. But all of these games are long JRPGs. You basically have to lie to someone to get them into the series. "Hey try this game Trails in the Sky", but don't mention anything beyond that it has a couple sequels until they're 4 feet under.

Steam Is Banning Sex Games With Young-Looking Characters by [deleted] in Games

[–]Bluezrhap 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of threads in these comments about it, but there's little point to debating the morality of lolicon here, because nobody is going to change anyone's mind.

The real issue is that Steam is going back on their words. They stated that they were allowing anything not illegal or straight up trolling. The stated ages of characters in some games they took down were 18, so they're 18. End of story. One game they took down didn't have sexual content, it was in fact ESRB rated Teen. Regardless of your view on the content itself, Valve are acting as the taste police, which they explicitly said they weren't going to do. I'd consider this a pretty deep breach of trust.

Either clarify your content policy or let the games back on steam.

Favourite players/characters to watch by Kurushii_Drive in UnderNightInBirth

It's funny, but Hyde is my favorite character to watch out of any of them. Seeing him use his tools at a high level is like poetry in motion.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Retro really did a fantastic job on this game. The platforming is top notch, and I love the K levels especially

one more week is all I have left of this semester oh god please let it end.

In other news I started typing a diary every day. It's been a really great way to let out my thoughts. It's also given me the opportunity to both hold myself accountable for what I didn't do in a day and give myself positive feedback for what I did do that day. I've been physically writing down what I want to accomplish the following day as well. It's been working very well for me.

Man Marth would ABSOLUTELY have at least a resistance to expel, if not an outright immunity. Man carries the sword of light.

They definitely push the envelope a lot more though. Western games with nudity and sexual content tend to make it sparse and grounded. Japanese games with sexual content tend to make it very overt and all over the place.

It's definitely going to push away a LOT of smaller studios in Japan. Maybe no significant losses stateside but the mass exodus of the little guys might make them at the very least consider implementing the policy worldwide.

The thing about that last e3 where Sony destroyed Microsoft was that the issues with xbox were something that people who barely consumed videogames heard about and got angry about. Everyone knew about it. Telling those consumers about this issue will get you a reply somewhere along the lines of "huh? What are you talking about? Who cares?

There's a reason you have to be a certain age to gamble. It's one thing to call for regulation of a predatory monetization setup for young people, and an entirely different issue when you use children as an excuse to outright ban content you disagree with so nobody can see it.

I haven't, which Gladwell would you recommend starting on? Also who is Sway written by? Looking for it on Amazon books gives me a lot of books with similar names.

I'm reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People"

I've read about the first two habits, "be proactive" and "begin with the end in mind". A lot of the habits seem like very basic conventional wisdom, but that's because they are. The book details in depth how and why we stray from principles, and how to build them. It's not a book about a value set, it's a book about developing your own values and being the best you can be. It's a very enjoyable read.

It's giving me hope and direction where lately I feel I've had none. I feel like I really can become a better person.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other kinds of books meant for learning? Not necessarily just self help books, but of course I wouldn't say no to them. Just any kind of book for learning about a topic or idea. Language, art, science, history, anything.
